    Thanks for video. It was simple and easy to understand you, unlike many others.

    I have a 1999 Scotts 1624 with the Kholer Command 16, almost 23 years old and still runs like new.

    Save yourself some $ and get a supertech st3614 oil filter (fram ph3614 and napa 21348 filters also work). It is a direct replacement to that Arnold oil filter you used in this video. I personally use them on my Kohler's.

    My Craftsman 15 H.P. Kohler engine lawn tractor - I used to use a Fram PH 46 or Wix 51288 oil filters for they are less than $5. Also, my oil filter mounts in the down position so I put a light coat of clean grease on the seal.

    Thx Hank! Doin same thing. My drain spigot is very slow. I can see why previous owner changed yours.

    I have that same engine and mower. Mid 90's vintage. Always have used Mobil 1 and Purolator filter. Never a minutes trouble with the engine and it has seen some tough duty on unimproved lot and 20 foot elevation change in a 100ft span. However, last week the mower stopped moving but engine and mower deck still going. The parking brake linkage or tranny broke. Haven't had a chance to inspect.

      check the drive belt, its likely that broke or came off.

    Oil on the filter gasket helps keep the seal from binding and over time and heat stick to the housing. Causing issues trying to get the filter off, also helps keep it from leaking right away till it gets a few heat cycles. The gasket it supposed to be pinched in the grove of the oil filter so no need to remove it and lube up the whole thing and risk a chance of a leak you may not notice until it's to late.

      How would you not notice a large oil leak like that on a small engine when the oil filter is literally 1 foot from your leg?

    I might get to drive a '94 Ranger Splash in a couple days. Does the Ranger drive good? Anything that I should know?

    That thing has a bigger oil filter than my car. haha. I always oil up both sides of the seal but I never see anyone else doing that. Guess it can't hurt? either way, nice work amigo!

    Can you have to much oil in mower

  • @Nowayjose-z2r
    @Nowayjose-z2r 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    For those who are watching now (2021 and newer) not the greatest idea to use car/truck oil because of emissions equipment and better alloys the oil doesn't have as much Zinc and other chemicals in it. A lot of places like local car parts stores, local True Value types, Walmart during the summer have small engine oil, usually fairly inexpensive that has all the vitamins required to keep your engine running longer and less wear.

      Where are you reading this from? Because both the physical copies and digital copies of service manuals I have state that as long as it meets the API ratings they are fine.

    • @hanksgarage_
      @hanksgarage_  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Straight from their most recent owner manual for 6000/7000 series engines. “We recommend use of Kohler oils for best performance. Other high-quality detergent oils (including synthetic) of API (American Petroleum Institute) service class SJ or higher are acceptable. Select viscosity based on air temperature at time of operation as shown in table below.”

    My 15 HP Kohler Command uses the same oil filter as 2.4 L PT Cruiser does. Much cheaper.

    TBH i've stopped using my riding lawnmower. My self-propel Honda actually gets the job done quicker, and it looks better... And I can bag it too.

    • @hanksgarage_

      +Sean “S3EN” Slater As soon as this grass starts growing more the rider I have will be perfect for it, the push mower will still be used though for the fences and close to the shop

    My Kohler Command does not have the extension. I will NEVER, ever buy another. What a mess...spend $ 2500 on it and they could not design oil change ease into the manufacture of this lawn mower! Get a John Deere.

    • @hanksgarage_
      @hanksgarage_  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am actually currently dealing with this issue on my john deere which has a cv23s twin installed on it. The motor has alot more power than this one did, but the damn cap is leaking oil when the motor warms up and I have not been able to source a new cap or extension for that matter which is extremely irritating
