国東 KUNISAKI - Syncretism of Shintoism and Buddhism

Passed on from ancient times in Japan, there exist “Shinto”, which looks up in nature, and “Buddhism” which seeks the way of life as human being.
Back in the old days, in Kunisaki Peninsula which is surrounded by rocks and peaks,, a mountain religion called “Rokugo-Manzan” was born by introducing Buddhism into Usa Hachiman Shinto religion.
Acknowledging their differences, both live together in the land of Kunisaki.
The symbiosis of Nature and Human is still inherited and alive after 1,300years.

古より日本に伝わる、自然のなかに神を見る信仰「神道」と、人間の生き方を求める仏の道「仏教」。
その昔、奇岩奇峰の山間に囲まれた国東半島という地で、宇佐八幡信仰に仏教が取り入れられた「六郷満山」と呼ばれる山岳仏教が生まれた。
互いの異教を認め合い、共に国東の地で生きてゆく。
そんな「自然と人」が調和した共生のあり方は、1300年を経た今もなお受け継がれている。
この映像を通し、少しでも多くの人が日本古来の伝統、文化、そしてそれらを守り続ける国東の地を感じていただければ幸いです。
