On the 6th and the 9th, Hiroshima and Nagasaki. were bombed However, in between, on the 8th August, the Soviet Union invaded Japan from Manchuria. For Japan, the Soviet Union was actually a bigger worry than the bombs. Ultimately, I think part of the reason it's omitted is to justify the bombs, as it was only done as a show force towards the Soviet Union. The Japanese fleet fell on Operation Ten-Go (45/04/07) and any remaining warships were finally destroyed in bombings in July of Kure and Yokosuka. With the Soviets advancing at light speed in China, it made no sense to continue the war. I'm not gonna condemn the use of nuclear weapons because any country would have done the same in WWII. I'm just saying that the effect they had on Japanese surrender is greatly exaggerated
Australia is an island, according to what I was taught. The Australian “continent” is really just Oceania, including Australia, but not limited to Australia. Australia isn’t it’s own continent, its in Oceania, and therefore is an island. That’s always what I’ve learnt since I was a little kid, and after some research it’s debated a lot.
