@@kyleallen1858 No they weren't, they lost, ergo they weren't better. We had the better talent, the better coach, better record, the higher seeding, and the win, which was more UCLA fighting back than Gonzaga giving it away.
This is why I love the NCAA Tournament. ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN! Plus with Gus Johnson's commentary on close games, it's just the perfect game to watch. You just can't beat it.
I was watching this from my dorm room at UCLA, and I remember hearing a deafening scream from every person in the building the second Mbah a Moute made that shot. It was as if the entire building just exploded.
Come here to see the Bust, then see all these NBA players! Who knew at the time that UCLA could play a WHOLE LINEUP with players who'd have more success than Morrison at the next level?! Collison, Farmar, Afflalo, Mbah a Moute AND Hollins?
I guess it's better to win on the road and in that case on the same building that this moment happened. Also better to win in silence than in delirium.
I still remember watching this game late at night in my room on a school night back when I was in high school and I was yelling AND screaming OMG OMG and I woke up my dad he wasnt a happy camper LMAO! But that was a crazy finish
i watch this daily and cry every time.. im not a ucla or gonzaga fan - just a fan of college basketball and gus johnson just makes me cry because there is so much emotion. love it.
I was at this game and was able to sneak down to the 1st row behind the press table near the UCLA bench. The Arena at Oakland had a row of seats that weren't for sale, since that row cordoned off by a small curtain that separated us from the press. We just sat there and the ushers down there were more worried about people getting on the floor than people just sitting there. Great game, good times, can't believe it was 3 years ago already.
Best UCLA game I ever saw was one that they lost...when Notre Dame beat them and ended their 88-game winning streak back in 1974. Huge fan and even though they lost, you'll never see such a game or streak ever again.
Gus johnson is the best..."heart break city"...pure joy to watch and this was a great game that contributed to my big money winning bracket in 07' along with ohio state over xavier. Thank you zags
Even with our early exit this year, nothing quite cheers me up like this video and hearing the announcer scream "UNBELIEVABLE! UCLA! UNBELIEVABLE! ". True fans are in it for the good AND the bad. GO BRUINS!
oh man i remember watching this with my brother. i swear our lungs were gone the next day haha we were screaming the whole game. one of the best comebacks i've ever seen, thanks for puttin this up, greattttttttt stuff
Oh my lord, I had forgotten just how insane the ending of this game really was! And Gus Johnson screaming like a maniac just adds to the helter skelter! Haha!
I still watch this every day! What! A! Game! As a UCLA fan I feel like I should point out that all six UCLA players who play either saw or are currently seeing significant NBA minutes (Bozeman w Atlanta is the only one no longer around). Currently we have only one who we can only hope makes it someday (Honeycutt), ouch.
This is such a great video for so many reasons. Really captures the essence of March madness. And just think, we'll get to see more of this, this week! Side note: look at all the NBA players in this game... Farmar, Morrison, Mbah a Moute, Ryan Hollins, Collison, Afflalo, even Cedric Bozeman played a few games in the NBA.
Every time I watch this clip, it always surprises me how the pass to Batista was not knocked down. Usually full court passes with pressure on the inbounder are tough enough, but he was covered by two defenders near the perimeter. Nice - lucky - pass and good catch. Used all the luck on the pass, of course the shot was missed :p
Gus Johnson, Kevin Harlan are the two best announcers in the game that can make any play just absolutely exciting!!! even when Batista made the catch, Gus johnson's hollering made you believe he made the shot before it even left his hand, you were excited as heel that the catch was even made regardless of him hitting the shot, like the catch was worth points...Gus is great!
I can't believe that with all the talent UCLA had during this era they were not able to win a championship. Farmar, Afflalo, Mbah a Moute, Hollins, and Collison are all in the NBA and Bozeman was in the league for a little while. Goes to show how good those Florida teams really were.
When UCLA was down 71-68 and Gonzaga was inbounding the ball you can read Howland's lips. He was telling the Bruins, "Don't foul, don't foul!" Very smart move by Howland.
Gus hasn't had a great game to call since OSU-Xavier and A&M-Louisville on the same day back in 2007. Here's hoping that changes this year - we need some more additions to his already impressive collection.
I remember thinking this at the time: Afflalo should have missed the second free throw. They were out of timeouts so there's no reason to give them a chance to inbound the ball and throw a long pass, which is what happened. Make them rebound the ball in the backcourt and have to throw in a shot from 60-70 feet in less than 2 seconds. But what a game!
"Heartbreak City"...priceless...Still get the chills watching this amazing game. Btw the 11 must be $C fans, or clueless, brain-dead folks with no appreciation of a great ending to a game regardless who you root for.
Obviously the steal by Mbah a Moute at 2:15 is a great play, but if you look closely, it looks like it was a game-saving play too. Raivio was about to look up and he would've seen Jeremy Pargo (I think that's who it is), wide open for a cut to the basket or a jumper. Still one of the best finishes I've seen to any game.
Absolutely fantastic comeback by UCLA. Along with upsets, things like this are what makes the NCAAs great. One of the great comebacks I've seen ... though I guess OSU perhaps eclipsed it tonight against Tennessee.
This UCLA team was stacked. Darren Collison, Jordan Farmar, Luc Richard Mbah a Moute, Arron Afflalo, even Ryan Hollins. ALL NBAers. And then Kevin Love and Russell Westbrook showed up the next year.
I still can't believe Ryan Hollins actually made almost all his free throws leading up to the National Championship. When I think about it, it makes me laugh.
This has to be the moment that Adam Morrisons career just nose dived. He looked primed to be a force in the NBA, but after this, was just completely shattered
I was at that game , I remember when the big screen showed him crying and people were in the stands shrugging their shoulders and saying "WHY IS HE CRYING''. It was funny around the same time LSU beat DUKE and the crowd was pretty happy.
Imagine if he announced with Dick Vitale, (tv watcher grabs the remote right away to turn down the volume, lol) what a great call however. The funniest thing in the arena was when the arena found out DUKE lost to LSU, everybody in the arena started cheering. Gonzaga played way too relaxed down the strech and UCLA played with a sense of urgency, that is why UCLA won and they earned it !
The fact that Gus Johnson doesn't do tourney games anymore is a damn shame. His calls were one of my favorite parts of March Madness.
+James Jackson He doesn't do them anymore because he got released in 2012ish because of a contract dispute (which is bullshit). BRING HIM BACK!!!
Farmar, Collison, Afflalo, Hollins, Mbah a Moute... man, this was a good UCLA team.
Gonzaga was so much better...they were smashing them...up by 10 with two minutes and they fucking threw it away

HEART! BREAK! CITY!
Still loving this in 2019
Never felt so bad for a player in my life. He was devastated.
"Batista with the CAAAAAATCH!"
Fortunately, Batista missed the shot. If he made it, Gus probably would have exploded.
like a A-Bomb
I never get tired of watching this video. Lovin' me some of that old-time Bruin magic.

Too bad it was scripted and you didn't know until now.
Come here to see the Bust, then see all these NBA players! Who knew at the time that UCLA could play a WHOLE LINEUP with players who'd have more success than Morrison at the next level?! Collison, Farmar, Afflalo, Mbah a Moute AND Hollins?
If Cleveland wins the NBA Finals this year, it would be cool if it ended like this. Awesome highlight.
I guess it's better to win on the road and in that case on the same building that this moment happened. Also better to win in silence than in delirium.
Batista with the CATCH! i love how the announcer goes crazy on catch
As a UCLA Alum... I could watch this video every day and not get sick of it. :) Here's to hoping we have this kind of magic in the next tournament!
Never, and I mean never, doubt the heart of UCLA student athletes!
I remember my friend texting me when Gonzaga was up 15 or so, and saying "nice final four pick" , at the end of the game i said "thanks"
I love Gus Johnson, I;ve never seen an announcer with as much passion as this guy!
Im a die hard bruin fan i was raised a bruin and i remember watching this jumping up and down in my grandmas living room good times.. :)

Apparently Afflalo and Hollins helped Morrison off the floor... class move, would like to have seen it.
i keep watching this and it nevers gets old
i cry just listening to gus.. literally i cry with chills. love ittt
I could watch this over and over and over again...Hey Adam Morrison: 1,2,3, cry!
I was at this game and was able to sneak down to the 1st row behind the press table near the UCLA bench. I watch this all the time and still feels like it just happened yesterday. GO BRUINS!!!!!!!!
Just watched this again...never gets old...GO BRUINS!
gus johnson gets so excited. it's pretty sweet. and since i was rooting for UCLA, its was even better.
Win or lose- Adam Morrison, that's the most genuine emotion you will ever see!!!!!
I went crazy when I watched this back in 06. Absolutely crazy.
For real man, he makes the game seem so epic and real. I wish more commentators were like him
Best UCLA game I ever saw was one that they lost...when Notre Dame beat them and ended their 88-game winning streak back in 1974. Huge fan and even though they lost, you'll never see such a game or streak ever again.

Easily one of the best game ive ever witnessed.
That night was insane. Gus Johnson calling the game also adds A LOT of excitement.
Oh my lord, I had forgotten just how insane the ending of this game really was! And Gus Johnson screaming like a maniac just adds to the helter skelter! Haha!
The sequence that Gus stars with "LAST CHANCE TO DANCE" is incredible. No doubt the best commentator in the business.
I'm here after Jalen Suggs wins the game for the Zags
Awesome video! I will always remember this game!! Thanks for sharing! Go Bruins!!
I can't stop watching this! All the way this year!

Gus Johnson has one of the greatest voices I've ever heard!!
farmar to the rescue XD
that was a great steal & at the perfect timing

Adam Morrison makes my world go round. Way to take it like a man :)
best line of this clip: "Heart-Break-City"

The underrated part of this video is gus's partner "he left the door open for a miracle to occur"
thank you for loading a high quality basketball clip. 95% of uploaders cant do this simple task, but you can. thank you and awesome video!
Still one of my favorite March Madness memories and I don't even care for either team.
I love gus johnson! he has such an exciting voice!

top 5 tourney games ever right here !!! so classic !!!
Saw that game in person, but I saw the replay as well. Gus is the best.
after this game ended my dad ran through the house shouting unfuckingbelievable he and i were sooooo happy
"Heartbreak City"...priceless...Still get the chills watching this amazing game. Btw the 11 must be $C fans, or clueless, brain-dead folks with no appreciation of a great ending to a game regardless who you root for.
gus johnson needs to do every game, he once made a houston texan game exciting
"you still wanna go after the ball, like you're a cornerb-IN THE FRONT COURT, BATISTA WITH THE CAAAAATCH...AND THATS IT, WHAT A COMEBACK"
GUS JOHNSON is the best sports play-by-play announcer EVER!! i mean for reals, just watch the games he does he makes it feel so exciting and intense
you're right. it also is not clear that he completely had control of it while he slid.
Gus Johnson is the man! Last chance to dance! Great line!

arguably my favorite ucla athletics moment as an undergrad.
Here after Jalen just gamed UCLA
@SuperBossman53 You can't forget Afflalo either and if you want to count Ryan Hollins too because he is also in the NBA.
15 years later...
Priceless seeing Morrison cry that is
I keep watching this specifically for Gus Johnson's "BATISTA WITH THE CAAAAAAAAATTTTTTTTTTCCCCCCCCCCCHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!" Scream :P
Westbrook was a HS senior during this game.
What's crazy is Jordan Farmar and Adam Morrison were teammates of the L.A. Lakers latest two NBA titles in 2009 and 2010.
I hate how morrison starts bawling before the game is even over.
One of the greatest UCLA games ever!
This has to be the moment that Adam Morrisons career just nose dived. He looked primed to be a force in the NBA, but after this, was just completely shattered
@Digadog81
I felt on that 2008 team, that UCLA just didn't play to their potential in that one. They learned how to get cold so easily that game.
"Heartbreak City"...that was TOTALLY random!
simmons gives this video a ton of hits
I was at that game , I remember when the big screen showed him crying and people were in the stands shrugging their shoulders and saying "WHY IS HE CRYING''. It was funny around the same time LSU beat DUKE and the crowd was pretty happy.
WOHHHH! god easily one of the top 2 moments ever
Crazy how many of these guys are in the NBA now.
How can anyone get enough of this?
I agree..I hope UCLA goes all the way this year..or rather next year.
nobody calls a game like gus johnson
anyone seen the xavier-ohio state video were gus johnson shouts some kind of gibberish when OSU tied it at the end?
