What PVMs do you consider Budget? How do you feel about the 50 Series PVMs? Thanks for your input.

I'm the proud owner of a 1351q worked on by Steve himself, he literally hooked it up to cables and brought it back to life right before my eyes (tube rejuvenation)! Thanks so much Steve, it's getting plenty of use and the picture is amazing! I haven't used a high TVL monitor before, but 450 looks great with scanlines and a sharp and vivid picture. I'd love a bigger set, but I also really like the smaller footprint of the 14" monitor for a smaller dedicated game center.

Awesome! Budget PVMs aren't really discussed much online compared to the "Grail" sets; it's hard to figure out what to look for monitors that I can actually afford lol

Love my JVC TM-H15CG series monitors. Scored one of them from ebay for $250 shipped. Added an RGB/component card for $90 to both and I'm set!

I had one of these since 2019 from a tv station business. I asked and toured the wearhouse for any more but that was the only one.
Unfortunately it has slight burn in on the bottom where the news banner would be but after all these years, I still love the thing to death!❤
If someone offered me a 1354q replacement, even for free I wouldn't take it. This is MY slightly screen burnt PVM!! 😂

I got the same model and it looks good but the image is a little dim, I'm going to try to adjust it from the menu you mention at the end of the video. Thank you.

some people trying to sell these for $600+. I say $400 max and thats still not what they are worth.
I picked up previous generation 1344Q for $325CAD which has minor blurry focus (adjusting the focus did not work) as a bit washed out green and blue but overall still pretty to look at.
Other note is that the front LEDs did not work (perhaps a video idea to repair this?), some screws missing, and the Sony badge fell off

I dream of buying a monitor serviced by you, they always look so great when you're done. I have so many CRTs that have proor geometry.

I’m looking into getting a D9H5J & hopefully if it arrives I’ll be able to get it serviced. I’ll be sure to send it to you once I pay for your repair tier on your Patreon 👍

The 1354Q was the first PVM I bought, just only recently getting into these broadcast monitors. Was not specifically looked for, it was just the first one I came across which was not insanely priced, albeit I did take a gamble on condition as it was reported to not power on. Fix was easy tho. The fact the seller specifically stated exactly how they ship, and FB was what caused me to pull the trigger.
The G-Board situation is wild though, so many changes/fixes/revision. From what I seen in your other videos, I did not get the latest revision, but did have a newer one (much cleaner and less components then the older one).
Curiosity has me tempted to buy a 1351Q, to study what component differences there are, besides just the obv CRT tube itself. Found a potential candidate, no colour error. I don't really need another 13" PVM, but only time will tell if curiosity wins out haha (of if someone else buys it).

NTSC 3.58 refers to any NTSC composite signal I believe. That is the frequency that is filtered for the chroma signal that is superimposed on the luma and sync signals. Since luma and sync are much lower frequency, much less of their signal strength are "trapped" by the chroma trap. All composite displays have some sort of 3.58 MHz trap by default but this one is likely an additional and/or a higher quality filter that can be enabled to clean up the signal a bit more making the composite a little less composity. The downside is that rapid step transitions in luma can contain high frequency components which are filtered by the chroma filter because no passive, analog, zero-lag filter can distinguish between a high frequency component of a luma waveform at a sudden brightness transition from a chroma signal of equivalent frequency. It is a matter of tradeoffs. I personally leave that function on for composite. It does not affect the other inputs.

Ironically: more tape may help. A strip of fresh packing tape "can" help pick up the left-over tape residue when applied (leaving part of the new strip un-applied for a handle to grab onto) and removed.

I like using residue-free duct tape when doing that

I have a 1454QM and 9041QM. I consider both budgets and affordable 😅 600TVL and 250TVL respectively. Here in Spain are equivalent about 300$
