I was never a diehard fan of The Killers. Just liked their songs on the radio and used to sing along when I heard them. But when I saw them at a Festival I was blown away. One of my favourite festivals sets ever.
It's weird I always thought they were British but you hit the nail on the head as to why I like this song, oh so very 80s new wave. No matter how old I get I never fall out of love with New Wave.
Yea i heard many times how the brits are so obssessed with this song and how it been in the chart for decades in end, also any rock band for that matter.
They went into a pub in new York with loads of brits in it then oasis where played he was in awe when everybody sang there songs word for word said there and then that's the reaction I want and he got Mr bright side
Thers a great interveiw with the guys about how they was on the last chance before a british producer signed them and they exploded in the UK, to help put them on the map
Quite literally THE British Anthem. It’s played everywhere for anything weddings, birthdays, in pubs and clubs, festivals, house parties, street parties you name it this is guaranteed to get everyone up dancing and singing along. Great reaction 👍🏻
We’re in the weird situation in Britain now where it feels like everyone now knows and vibes this song, our personal histories have been re-written so we have always done so, and everyone is now born knowing the lyrics. There is no life. There is no death. There is only Mr Brightside.
Soon to be declared the UK national anthem, even stronger than God save the Queen 😂😂 This week, still at N°74 in the UK charts, 18 years after it was released... Call it a hit single!!!
Nice to see one of our bands from the U.S. make such an impact there. But I have to say, to me, Oasis' Don't Look Back In Anger seems to be the UK national anthem
The live version of this, when they play in the UK, is a sight to behold. It's normally their encore song and is accompanied by the mother of all light shows.
@@Texy88 I think in the rest of the world they start with it or it's near the end, but not the final song. In the UK, as it's regarded as a second National Anthem, it's nearly always the final encore. The Wembley, London concert of the Battle Born tour definitely had Mr Brightside as the final encore song, and it would have been the same for most UK venues.
I’m from the UK and when I first caught them in London (which was in the O2) they opened with it. However, when I caught them a second time (which I recall was at Wembley) they did conclude with it.
Eric Roberts was a hot commodity in music videos at that time. He also appeared in "It's Like That" and "We Belong Together" by Mariah Carey (he was the jilted groom) and "Smack That" by Akon featuring Eminem. The video won Best New Artist video at the MTV Video Music Awards (back when MTV still played videos). This was the first song that The Killers ever wrote and was based on a relationship that lead singer Brandon Flowers had in which his girlfriend cheated on him.
255 weeks in the UK top 100 as of this week. Its actually moved up to number 68 this week! And yet it only peaked at number 10 in 2004. It's a crowd pleaser all right! Maybe we should also adopt it as our 'coming out of lockdown' song?
Staple song here in the UK. The moment we are out of lockdown and this can blast in clubs - life is back. Caution which The Killers released last year, fast became a favourite of mine
Legend has it if you play the beginning guitar riff in an open field at 3 am, you will summon a horde of british teenagers, frothing at the mouth ready to fucking party
Wow! Not heard this for ages. Such an anthem! Gotta give "smile like you mean it" "glamorous indie rock and roll" "somebody told me" "when we were young" and "who let you go" a listen as well Jay. The killers are exactly that mate, they kill it!
this song is from their amazing album called Hot Fuss... which also has two other killer tracks - Somebody Told Me and my personal fav - All These Things that I've Done
oh I CANT WAIT to dance to this in a pub,if this isn't played at a house party or on the jukebox in England after a few beers....then you life isn't complete.
This is a good song, but the good news is they have even better ones. "When You Were Young" might be their masterpiece. "All These Things That I've Done", "Read My Mind", "For Reasons Unknown"... Just lots of great tunes from this band.
Go into any pub or alt night at a club in the UK and you hear this with people arms in the air singing along. A radio station over here often gets mocked cos this song is one of the top 5 things they go on about A LOT 😬
I remember my first time hearing this song it was actually in Popworld nightclub. I remember just standing there getting chills and getting Shazam on and scanned the song. I danced so hard I broke my ankle and hit my head hard on the floor. This is literally my favourite song of ALL time!
Killers guitarist Dave Keuning wrote this about lead singer Brandon Flowers' ex-girlfriend who cheated on him. Flowers recalled to magazine March 2009 how he discovered her with another man at the Crown and Anchor pub in his hometown of Las Vegas: "I was asleep and I knew something was wrong. I have these instincts. I went to the Crown and Anchor and my girlfriend was there with another guy." Flowers added that the song was "born" at the Crown and Anchor.
Now we all learn something because I’ve heard of the killers. No idea what they sang but as soon as the song started I know exactly what was so now I have a band to go with the song and a face to go with the band LOL

This is the British national anthem even though they're from Vegas. They love this song. The video styled after Moulin Rouge. The older guy is Eric Roberts. The name Killers was taken from a New Order video "Crystal" which was the fictional name of the band in the video. Crystal is good for you to react to. Everyone just does Blue Monday.

LOVE LOVE LOVE this song! This is epic Killers. Their most recent album “Imploding the Mirage” is excellent as well and a couple of songs/videos to check out are “Caution” and “My Own Soul’s Warning”. The official video for “My Own Soul’s Warning” picks up from the video for “Caution”, but, I personally think the Michale Hili Video for “My Own Soul’s Warning” is better and would make a good reaction video for you.
The super-fun "Read My Mind". The sinister "Jenny Was a Friend of Mine". Letting go with "Human". The anthemic "All These Things That I've Done". The incomparable "Dustland Fairytale".
This song causes earthquakes at British Festivals.
I was never a diehard fan of The Killers. Just liked their songs on the radio and used to sing along when I heard them. But when I saw them at a Festival I was blown away. One of my favourite festivals sets ever.
The last time they played here the crowd done more damage to London than the Blitz.
This could be the English national anthem it’s so popular over here
Well they did say Oasis was a major influence on them starting a band.
Norman Whiteside
Na. Any English national anthems are woeful. This is a classic
@@RacerX-bv9io I think they are much more influenced by The Cure and New Order. Funny how lots of people think they are English.
@Searlait Loughlin by that logic anyone Irish with English parents is really English?
Anyone else in the UK listening and waiting for that moment when we all hear this in a club after over a year in lockdown and rush to the dance floor?
June 21st can’t come soon enough😭
I was just thinking the exact same thing! 😀
naaaah to deppresed

The best English 80s rock band to come out of Las Vegas in the 2000s....

It's funny with the whole meaning behind the song.
Funny, because the Killers aren't British, they're American.
This is an ANTHEM for British kids who were finishing school about 10/11 years ago. It gets us hype every time
@Daniel BP you’re clearly not British then
@Daniel BP well no but this song is the biggest song for British and if you ain’t British you just won’t understand
