    I enjoyed this. While artist when they talk with each other aren’t selling, art but getting into turpentine, the metaphorical turpentine time here is total immersion.
    I wasn’t getting point by point what I should do, but getting The Landscape or what I could do in the future once I got the point by point. I was getting happily confused and that is always the sign of about to learn a great thing.

    One thing that we can do to really experience the AR/VR environment and interactions is to implement them with ShapesXR. I'm developing my Master Thesis around AR/VR and ShapesXR really helped me understand how the UI feels. Is also a cool tool to do user testing and fast iterations without developing the app with a game engine.

    This is great. I think it makes sense to have the side menu on the right though to save you reaching over the content and obscuring it (right handed people). Obviously would be great to have a setting to switch for lefties. • @Kamil_Mark

    Great project Michał! I think that it would be a nice UX improvement if you could move up and down the cards gradually. I mean, you pinch and move a little, and it selects a level further, but without letting go of your fingers you move further, and it selects 2 levels further, and so on, and after letting go of your fingers it lands on the level you chose. Of course, testing needed whether it would be easy to use.

    • @MalewiczHype

      I was actually considering that as well, but wanted to stop the case study at some point so we have enough stuff for part 2. And part 2 will be definitely done in one of those spatial design tools like shapesXR or bezel.

    The video is amazing!
    I have a doubt though: if you're planning a second part, I think the goal of Vision OS might be to reduce hand movements, which could conflict with the up/down gestures for rating or derating the design. Perhaps two buttons or another approach could work better, as users may not know how to rate without a clear onboarding guide. If my assumption is wrong, please correct me! I truly respect your work, this is just a thought.

    I really enjoyed watching your thought process here - also a video case study is 🦆ing great. Were there any moments during the design process where you wondered how much of it will be handled by VisionOS? Things like the directional lighting, shadow casting, and window axis rotations/swiping between levels 2 and 4+. I can understand manually designing all of that now to visualize the concept, but I do wonder if we as designers will mainly be responsible for just the flat core UI designs, while VisionOS will automatically handle the rest to conform to whatever usability and visual constraints it has built in.

    • @MalewiczHype
      @MalewiczHype  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's a good question! I had to tweak the lighting and shadows manually because I don't have the device, and wanted the preview to be as realistic as possible with limited knowledge of 3d tools.
      Generally the OS handles most of the real-world grounding like shadows, lighting, window sizes etc.
      But they do say that they encourage developers to experiment and try new interactions, so some of these thigns (like that levels swiping) would be completely custom - haven't seen it in current apple guidelines anywhere. Also it may as well just be a bad idea (cognitive overload) which I acknowledge - but worth testing when I get the device :)

      @@MalewiczHype exactly. In fact one of the greatest, most under-utilized places to design 'info' is 'UP' - when you look up you can have weather data, stocks or any other data that is more 'when you need it', peripheral type data. Hi Michał, I really like that video. However, I'm concerned about whether the glass effect is the best solution for screen backgrounds. Let's say someone has a very white room, and it's a super sunny day (of course, the user can cover the window with curtain, but we should create products that will be visible in every possible environment). In that case, the like (heart) icon will be really hard to notice. Do you think screens with consistent colors might be a better solution? They may not be as visually striking as the glass effect, but I believe accessibility would be significantly improved. What are your thoughts? (U showed some example of it in 7:55 but still, it s not that bright and white as many peopl can have)

      The glass effect adjusts to the surroundings - it's made that way so if you have a very bright room the glass panels will be pretty dark (almost dark-mode). The room can also dim to make it more visible. I think there's some automatic settings for readability baked into the OS.

      I think this is when background room dimming comes into play. I do agree that bright and colorful environments can make UI elements more difficult to discern since they will essentially be sharing the same visual field.

    • @MalewiczHype
      @MalewiczHype  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      the background dimming is one thing, but the glass panels actually REACT to the surroundings, so they're not the same color all the time - they change and adapt to how much light there is around. It's pretty mindblowing :)

      @orange241987 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The visionOS will take care of it. Diming the components or making them brighter will be done by it automatically. So we don't have to worry about it. That's why apple recommends using native components to build for that reason.

    I thought this would be more AR. When you’ve got a table and you’ve got cards, why not put the cards on the table, flat, like real cards. Then interact with them, turning them over, pushing them away or pulling them closer. You could even drop them from the table on the floor. I thought this Vision OS would be more AR and less about boxes/windows. I understand people like and need structure though. These are just my thoughts

    • @MalewiczHype
      @MalewiczHype  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I believe that while it's more skeuomorphic/grounded in reality, it actually is a far slower way to do things. So I don't think we'll see "realistic" AR anytime soon - it would feel fine and good initially but quickly become tiresome - those flat windows are still a faster way - the extra depth can simply help with context and hierarchy, but other than that it's screens.

      @MalewiczHype answered this perfectly. Also, keep in mind that Apple needs to Tip-Toe into this new world. So they're going to gently bring their users into it with familiar UI design, and that's a smart move. We need a bridge. Flat 2D screens are the 'desktop', 'folders' and 'trashcans' of our generation. But wait a few years until UI doesn't need to be in a rectangle any more, and UI design becomes more like industrial design and product design. Wait until the UI's wrap and fold and blend in with your furniture. That's when UI design will get truly eloquent, intuitively useful and infinitely amazing.

    I like the idea of quickly iterating and exploring in this video, not seeking perfection, but I dont think you really leveraged the true possibilities of spatial design. I don't mean to be negative just some feedback but the sound effects between chapters are really unsettling IMO

    No way these ideas just came while u where actively working on them. That’s hard especially looking at the layers exploration the design is too good and extremely easy to follow

    Why Sketch? It is so last year…

      tools don’t matter. you can do it in powerpoint too. I happen to prefer sketch but the workflow is the same

      I remember when I used Axure because I didn't trust cloud-based software -- one of the first early UX tools out there.
      I was thinking, oh they can see the idea I have for my app.
      Slowly, I eventually caved in and used cloud-based software like Figma.
      But I see why Sketch can be good for you -- if you prefer working on your ideas from a downloaded tool, so no one else from the company that made the tool sees it.
      That's how I see it.

    • @MalewiczHype
      @MalewiczHype  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      there are other reasons too. Figma has a horrible privacy policy. There's no ability to work offline when it goes down (and it sometimes does), no drag and drop exported images from within the window (to itself and to outside) - I use that A LOT.
      And I just prefer that native app feel.
      I do use Cloud features in sketch too - collaboration, annotations and so on.
      But really - which tool you use is not important - pen and paper is great too

    • @denniszenanywhere
      @denniszenanywhere ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MalewiczHype I agree. And I think sometimes it's good to work on something offline first in the early stages of designing before you switch it online for collaboration, etc.

    Uuh... Still CGI... 😅... First... Yeah this is NOT anything close to CGI. I know. But I'm convinced... VR will bring a new paradigm of content consumption

    Nice job!
    But I would suggest using Bezel or ShapesXR in order to design and test your ideas in actual VR/AR headsete.
    Doing it in old fashioned way is always cool (back in the days 5-6 yeaes ago I even used After Effects.. But nowadays there are some great tools for XR Design. I always jump into them after the initial sketches / wirefames.
    And if it helps someone - read my article serious on UX Collective, the last one is "Design for XR - Part 5".
    Cheers!

      I have a plan to use one of these apps for part 2 to sketch out more complex interactions. This is more of the first stage of exploration kind of thing. Some of the people from these two apps actually reached out to me yesterday :)

      @@MalewiczHype Yeah, they are great people. I've participated in ShapesXR Beta and was among 20 other lucky designers who were the firsts to try the app with AR pass through SDK.
      And Bezel guys are awesome as well. 👏

    Can we please stop supporting unnecessary bs and start working the myriads of things the world actually needs improvement on??? No disrespect.
    But as a designer you actually have power and you should use it.

      Let's be brutally honest - design doesn't matter at all in the grand scheme of things. We can pat ourselves on the back and pretend it's meaningful, but it's really not.
      I do a lot of things outside of design to make the world better. This is an exploration on something I'm genuinely curious about - but not in that dystopian way of using it 12h every day.

      Yes. I wanted to do the first iteration without XR specific tools, but if this video gets popular I'll definitely do a part 2 and use either Bezel or shapesXR in it :)
