    One of the best showcases of this game I've seen anyone do 👍 I appreciate you! First 5 minutes you go over two things that so many TH-camrs gloss over: 1) the permanent trait from leaders, and 2) your support level is basically your health. Such a great overview for your audience, thank you!
    Personally I love space opening and think it's one of the easiest ones. You saw yourself how busted it became when you had so much trade early 😁

    the triple tritium generators and resonance was an amazing start because you also had so many trade routes to just turn electricity into any resource

    • @michaelkensbock661
      @michaelkensbock661 ปีที่แล้ว

      The starting draws were very common. You always got at least 3 tritium reactors during the first couple of turns and a fourth building from the energy list soon after. At least before the last patch. Now the second-round event doesn't offer a reactor anymore, which is a huge blow.
      What was super lucky is the massive amount of tritium spots near the starting location and the leader to mine even more tritium.
      I was biting my nails for Potato to finally explore&settle the big crystal spot during that start though^^

    Hey, just wanted to point out that you might be undervaluing Skyscrapers. The base -3 support does seem rough, but they have two pop located in a single location, and buildings that provide adjacency support provide it based on population, not the tile, so Skyscrapers actually double the support bonus, meaning they scale VERY well into the mid to late game.

    I do really like this game, it's janky but in a cool way.
    The biggest problem is that the game suffers from a weird inverse difficulty curve. Once you get an engine going and start boosting your global comfort, you probably aren't going to lose but it might take a long time to actually "win". Incidentally: robots and transport buildings (road pavers, busses, hyperloops) are absolutely huge.
    The other issue is that there are a ton of projects that are, frankly, completely fucking useless. By the time you have cities taking advantage of liquid oceans, the game's basically already done and you are looking for whatever you need to finish the game.
    Just my thoughts.

    • @misterfister7714
      @misterfister7714 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      But that is why you are playing on higher difficulties its actually really good system, in some games it might be OP; but i many its actually quite good and balanced, in Terraformers is very well balanced for the most part some leaders are really OP and it doesnt make it fun playing on anything below Utopia after specific point, yet Utopia is not really fun if you are constantly getting meteors and and bad cards.
      As for projects, again 90% are quite useful the higher difficulty you go; however you cant really pay for them without good leader and focusing on 2/3 cities instead of 5+ until you get surplus of resources to spend on some expensive projects and enough trade routs to do so in 2/3 turns quite hard when playing small, that is why you are playing on Utopia to begin with you need to make right choice and sometimes right choice is going for things that dont look good, 3 projects for 10 per turn support can get you through early game Utopia with ease that is if you have good cities. Game is quite balanced and you can win without oceans on utopia+ and above it literally impossible you lose support too fast to ignore having already terraformed planet to 2nd stage by mid game radiation is crazy even in early game, so atmosphere is priority and oxygen obviously comfort of living is 2nd most important thing to not lose game while not wasting space on building such buildings, temperature comes 3rd same reason, but when to have more control over where to spread bacteria viable strategy is to prepare some location for new city to start with good support before late game, and ocean level obviously to spread more plants before you git park of -200 support in mid game which is after 20/25 turns maybe more depends.
      But yea some projects are waste of time unless you can do them in 2 turns, projects that give support or ocean level are good because its saving you trouble later when its too late, and some random event such as meteor when you have to deal with it, but you also have no ocean level and now you have no resources to change that and you cant spread plants for next 20+ turns literally wasting time with 50% of failing after few turns while support is dropping each turn more and more and no way of fixing it OCEAN is quite important early especially if you get leaders that give free bacteria and such each turn you snowball it and you have stage 2 on all four by turn 40 when mid game ends.

    I’ve been wondering why I find all games videos by potatoe except civ super annoying - this one makes it clear! It’s such a technical approach to explaining a game that drowns me in details but does not give any room to the big picture. My brain is just not made for this kind of information and my motivation to try out the games suffers when I lack the abstract concept .

    5:45 Coming from someone that's beaten the second hardest difficulty (and was too bored to actually play through again on the hardest), I can say with confidence that you're better off being greedy and just getting the extra power generation.
    While it's true you need tritium for your space project, you can get more from the adjacent tiles on top of what you're generating. By going for either of the other options (especially the one that needs water), you'll have to wait at least a couple turns before you can actually build it and get value from the card. Until then, both the tritium in your inventory and the card will be wasted.

    You can survive pretty steep negative support income fairly comfortably. I think it's worth ignoring it to focus on other parts of your economy for a while and keeping support up by gaining decent amounts from exploration, terraforming and spreading new lifeforms.

  • @macarthius
    @macarthius ปีที่แล้ว

    Enjoy this game quite a bit, it's definitely addictive but I wish it had more depth. Every game you need to do the same thing in order to win- expand, collect all the resources, and terraform. There's different victory conditions but they all end up playing out the same. The only difference is how lucky you get with getting synergistic cards and leaders. For example for the science-focused victory you need to spend science and explore locations which are two things you're going to be doing every game anyways. Science is just another resource you can produce or trade for and you need to explore to make new cities and gather more resources. You might be able to get away with not terraforming on earlier difficulties, but on harder ones it's impossible to keep support high enough to win without doing so.

    I want to see someone play the hardest difficulty where having -400 happyness with 500 in reserve is considered good.

I suppose you want to see if the game is good enough to make a video about, but I personally always like seeing someone's journey from noob to expert and maybe even playing alongside, rather than just diving in to an expert level gameplay, but that's just personal preference I suppose.
