Good advice. Detroit River here. Not only do we use a small barrel swivel 24” above the jig, but 17# fluoro leader. We also custom tie stingers and use them to hook those short strikes on the back half of the plastic. Fall jigging can be very productive, and usually wide open because a larger percentage of fishermen are done for the year before this really fires up. Good luck, be safe and wear your Mustang vest.

I like a six foot to six foot four inch medium fast action blank for most jigging but will sometimes use a ML action for lighter jigs in shallow water.

You should add in your title that your boat fishing, way different fishing from the shore.
In fall they are a lot shallower then what you'd think
