About JamesandKarla:
Hey everyone! We are husband-and-wife architectural/interior photographers based in NYC. We started our video channel to act an artistic intervention to help raise awareness of the importance of small independently-owned businesses and the unique character these shops add to the streets and neighborhoods of New York City.
In our videos we will showcase portraits of storefronts and shop owners in New York City & beyond and capture moments of city life that capture the spirit, energy and cultural diversity of individual neighborhoods. We also bring our dog, Hudson along whenever we can.
We made it our mission to thoroughly document unique 'mom-and-pop' stores when we began to notice the alarming rate at which they were disappearing. Our critically acclaimed books include “STORE FRONT: The Disappearing Face of New York”, “New York Nights”, “STORE FRONT II- A History Preserved” and “Broken Windows-Graffiti NYC”.

Thanks for the great white planes road walk in the bronx. Starting at 219 street, our heroes hugged the train line crossing such neighborhoods as Gun Hill road, Williambridge, Pelham Parkway, Little Yemen and Van Nest. Experiencing the diversity of each of them though their customs, Mom and pop shops, Graffiti tags and the industrialized areas around them. From all night laundry mats , Botanicas, cafes , food markets, street vendors, small churches and autobody shops protected by cats, our heroes show us the best of the bronx with dignity, humor, intelligence and love. All of that and the loveable Mr Hudson as well. Thanks for sharing this with us and please stay safe warm and dry and enjoy the rest of your night.
Freddy thank you for watching and taking the time to write such a nice summary of our walk through the Bronx. We loved walking and showing the many shops and different foods and culture we encountered along the way. Hudson of course had a great day too.

The purple flowering tree is probably a Jacaranda tree
It is wonderful that they survive in New York. These trees are tropical. They thrive in Texas, California and Florida.

Although I haven't lived in the Bronx since 1985, I did grow up in the Fordham section (#4 train!) and later lived in beautiful Pelham Parkway. Karla, I actually lived at 665 Thwaites Place, which was right behind you at the other corner when you were in the middle of the gutter taking pictures! It was really exciting for me to see this! Yes, I live in a great place now (we don't have to shovel sunshine!), but I try to never miss an opportunity to see a livestream of the Bronx. Thanks for taking me back home!

Great walk in the Bronx. Nice to see another aspect of NYC. Love the Electra 225. The 225 refers to the cars length. Sometimes it’s referred to as a Deuce and Quarter. Average gas mileage…Seven!
Joe thank you for the great feedback and the interesting facts about the Electra 225 we saw. It’s so cool to hear that the 225 refers to the car’s length and that it was also called a Deuce and a Quarter. We will have to incorporate that in our next trivia chat 💬!
and I thoroughly enjoyed this unusual area of the city really loved the little Yemen 🇾🇪aspect of it especially the clothing store and I also spied a nice Jewish 💙Corner Market
