There are many varieties of materials used for photographic light seals. The felt and yarn are by far the lowest cost materials. The foam comes in two distinctly different types - open cell and closed cell foam. Many people use the open cell foam for the mirror dampers and closed cell for the rear door seals. All of the materials work wonderfully and which to use is often just personal choice. There are also yarn material options - cotton, wool and acrylic. The yarn difference is mainly in how long it will last and any natural deterioration factor over time. For me, the bottom line is just getting the job done as any new light seal material will last a good long time, so just by replacing the seals, and with general care, the cameras will live on for another 20 or 40 years. Now if we could only be sure that film will remain available for those additional years! Very good video sir!
When a customer brings in a camera for service I use foam. Dedicated product coming from Japan but at the end of the day it looks like the camera comes out of the factory. As a DIY solution felt and yarn is also a good idea.

À propos, je compte racheter un Nikon F, que j’avais en 1971 … savez-vous s’il a des mousses ? Je n’arrive pas à m’en souvenir et je pense que l’étanchéité était assurée par les profondes glissières. En tout cas merci et suis très heureux d’avoir découvert votre chaîne. Je m’abonne bien sûr !
Sur le F, il y a celle du miroir. Pour le dos, pas de mousses qui se détériorent sur le mien. Prendre le F avec prisme en toit qui selon moi est le plus emblématique.

All purpose glue, the cheapest one I could find ! It works wonders.

did not order it, it could be found in arts and crafts stores
