Because the PHEV is all about efficiency and an the eCVT is far more efficient than an eight speed auto. Compare the efficiency numbers of the Lexus 550h+ to other 3-row PHEV SUVs (using autos) and you'll see it's massive.

Hmmm... very interesting indeed. The design of the Grand Highlander didn't resonate with me, but this Lexus equivalent looks rather nice. I was fairly content with my servicing visits for my new Sienna, but the better service of Lexus also sounds like a nice touch.
Maybe you can do a video detailing the driver's experience with a suspension that has "adaptive variable suspension" (e.g. Toyota Crown) versus those without. The upcoming Lexus TX 500h F-Performance has this feature and your past reviews of the Toyota Crown suggest it greatly improves ride and handling qualities.
Hi David, I think the Lexus TX 500 is definitely nicer than the Toyota grand Highlander. I am a little disappointed that it’s not being made in Japan. However, it’s a wonderful and absolutely beautiful vehicle my first priority as you know, is quality control, so that’s why I am more interested in , the Lexus GX 550 so I’m going to wait until the last year of that version and model and possibly purchase one at that time…. This was a great video as always. I’m very impressed with Lexus and their new models. They all look great. They all have a great fit and finish. I just have to wrap my mind around what they’re doing with the power plants I just can’t see myself buying any electric or hybrid vehicles, at least for the next 10 to 15 years until they are perfected. That’s just my opinion but I will try to open my mind to purchasing a V6 TwinTurbo in the future. Again thank you so much for your wonderful videos. Your videos are phenomenal. Grand Highlander is better and cheaper! TX is more expensive because you are paying the name "LEXUS." Without the front logo of Lexus and the stamped L E X U S at the back, will you still buy it? Its a marketing strategy.
Thank you for the comment on the current state of Toyota service. We have both a Lexus and a Toyota currently and I have given up on Toyota service in my area of Ontario - it was the benchmark and is now truly awful. Great video as usual ty!
I don’t know how in real life looks, but in pictures the TX looks very ugly while Grand Highlander is beautiful. In addition TX has maximum seat of 6 while Grand has options of 7 and 8. It will be nice to have fair a pros and cons comparison. Simply due to the limit seat capacity, no chance for me to buy TX.
my biggest and only factor in deciding between the two is the 8-passenger vs 7 passenger seating. I can't believe they have no 8 passenger version for the TX. that may end up forcing me into a grand highlander. I'm willing to pay the premium for the lexus, but want the 8 passenger when going to a car this large and family oriented.
The Grand Highlander was my first interest until I saw the Lexus TX. I want to tow a small RV and skeptical of the 4cyl turbo on the Hybrid Max. I would rather tow using the 6cyl and have the option for a plug in like the prime (if the plug in can tow).
David, what about the seating between the TX & Grand Highlander? Is the 3rd row really adequate for 1 or 2 adults? And is a bench 2nd seat available in both models? Thank you sir.
You can’t afford it if you can’t pay the premium fuel. This is just as simple as rich don’t blink when they buy 1st class tickets when travel domestically or internationally or shopping in the boutique stores…..
There no reason to buy Lexus TX, Lexus TX is actually grand Highlander under Lexus batch, they share all the components, evenly the gear shifter. Not worth the extra cost.
I love the TX 350 premium AWD. Would you know how long it would take to get one? I asked dealers but they only want your information and sell you what is in the lot. Thanks and keep up the great reviews.
the plugin hybrid date isn't even announced, and with the wait times and all it'll be over a year before any of us would be able to put our hand on it. Also the looks are subjective, personally I Really dislike what they've done with the front, and I think GH looks much better than the TX in that department. Not to mention it'd be at least $15K over the platinum version so no point in my opinion.
I was super excited when I heard about the TX I put off buying the GH till I saw it. Then I saw the MPG is less on the tx hybrid, less seats, and that hideous front end. God awful. Not worth the extra minimum 10-15k. So back to Toyota I went.
It's not hard to pick the TX over the grand highlander but I'm more torn between the 2024 TX and GX... I know they're completely different beasts but they both have 7 seats (which I desperately need for my family) and they both look marvelous. I'm leaning towards GX but worried that it'll be much harder to get one.
I own a 2022 gx , it technically doesn’t have 7 seats . 3rd row is no good for car seats or adults. Also if you manage to fit a human in the 3rd row you, have no cargo space. Thats why they are not even offering a 3rd row in the new 550 (offroady version). Trust me if you actually need 3 rows go for tx , ghighlander or maybe a suburban. Im actually thinking about trading in my gx for a tx
I was waiting for the 2023 Sequoia, but the third row was an issue. And for $80,000, I didn't think you get the value for the money. The Grand Highlander sounds more functional and practical, but now there's the plug in Lexus TX 500 h+ which checked all the boxes. But we have to wait for next year...
I think we all get enamored by features and luxury. Design is subjective so no comment. Everyone will have some "must have options". For me its memory seats, 2nd row bench seat, upgraded stereo, parking sensors, and acceptable torque. The equivalent Lexus TX is between $20k to $24k more than the Grand Highlander. The only real benefit I see is the 6 cyl engine. Most You Tube reviews state the GH Standard Hybrid performs just fine, but maybe just a little loud when you accelerate up large hills. After looking at both as well as the Mazda CX90 I ordered the GH Ltd. Hybrid with a bench seat, and no sunroof. Trading in my 2018 Highlander Ltd. with 117,000 mi. The net cost will be about $36k. Reg. gas savings over the old Highlander will be about $1,200 annually. The Limited Trim level is really the sweet spot for features without being punished on price.
Hope you get a chance to own a GHL,TX and new GX David, to show us!! Keep your NORI Green GX, and the last of v8. I dont know when the world will correct itself for another v8 GX. I think the value will only go up like the FJ. I hope they continue to make the TX more premium than the GHL, and maybe update the grill for the future. I understand this is what they do for the first gen models.
If the TX does not have better mpg than the Grand highlander its a waste of time because that is the major reason for hybrid. If the MPGe is less what are you doing?
David , i think so because Lexus is Toyotas premium brand but what Toyota is doing is amazing I love the look of the new Tundra,Sequoia, Tacoma,Highlander ,now the Tz and Gz .It's nice to see options. Toyota will have something for everyone
Which one is less likely to be stolen from my driveway? TX or GX? Which will have a plug-in version sooner in Canada, and which will have a front seat massage? These are key reasons my wife will let us get one? Any thoughts?
Agree with others that the TX doesn’t stand out enough from the Highlander to warrant the extra cost. The only reason I’m considering it is because of the PHEV option.
the door latch being electric 3:00 is actually a bit spooky. I would want to know more about fail safe measures before buying a car with that tech. If the car loses electric power for whatever reason, are you trapped inside your car?
for your second point there, actually grand highlander platinum has Traffic Jam Assist as well! but yea, other than that, the TX seems more luxurious! but its to be expected, its a LEXUS!| The other difference you didnt mention is the available 22" wheels on TX, Grand Highlander only goes up to 20" wheels
Great information and thank you. The only thing I could wish I saw was a storage capacity comparison between the grand Highlander and the LX. Of course, this is not a Sequoia or suburban, but checked luggage for traveling to an airport is a problem for us in our current GMC. The grand Highlander did not make the cut. How does that compare to the LX and others? Keep this coming
Why can’t these Japanese brands build unibody construction suvs with front double wishbone suspension like the german brands? Even hyundai does it with genesis gv 80.
Still on the fence between GX and TX. As someone who has to drive seniors around, both are still high. I know Lexus fans will think it would be evil, but wondering if they would have a "van like" line up like the one seen in Europe? I have GS now, but just thinking.
Not so fast. You can get the panoramic moonroof in the hybrid TX option but you can with the Grand Highlander. Plus, the Grand Highlander gets 36/36 mpg on its hybrid but the TX only 27 mpg for its hybrid option.
How could you comparing Lexus GX vs Grand Highlander. No debating about Grand HighLander. That should be on separate review reports. Lexus is highest quality interiors and exteriors and it is first class of Toyota.
I can't wait this released to buy, I'll be booking TX 550 LUXURY plugged hybrid sys, since number if Lexus family owned since 1990, no way I'll go buy another vehicle over Lexus brand, I also owned Audi Q 7,regret buying, comparing Audi dealership to Lexus far better service and world class, I agreed with David, this alone make me continue to owned Lexus!!, nice reviews David.
I'm disappointed that the GH doesn't have a power steering column. My older Pathfinder does and it's part of the saved user settings, so it adjusts automatically for my husband and I at the push of a button.
I agree with Lexus quality being superior. I own a 2014 ES300h with over 120,000 miles and the car still runs like new. I recently had the car in a body shop to repair some minor dings and dents. The body shop gave it a good wash/detail and when I first got the car back, I really felt like it could pass as a 2 ~ 3 years old car. Besides some interior wear & tear and scuffs, the thing essentially looks new. I am very amazed at how well the car held up all these years and miles. I was waiting for the Grand High Lander to come out before knowing the TX is coming out soon as well. Unless the test drives show otherwise, I will most likely go with the Lexus TX. One disapointment on the TX is that it only fits 6 for the hgher trim/Hybrid models.
I already emailed Lexus Corporate asking them to consider putting a bench seat on the 2nd row for the PHEV at least as an option. There is no point leaving legroom for the 3rd row passengers or use the space between the captains chairs for easy access to the 3rd row since the GH is such a huge vehicle now
I want to know the difference in sound insulation between the GH and TX. Toyota doesn't do a great job at insulating their cars from road noise, so if Lexus was significantly quieter, then that would be a big selling point to me.

I ordered a GH at my Toyota dealership for MSRP, no price increase for me.
@@JezzaTheChamp Which dealer is it, could you share? Thanks
Tell me about the transmission, is it really a CVT and not a gear box? And just how reliable is the Lexus CVT? Does it have a take off gear? Need to know to make up my mind.. thanks
Premium fuel for the TX was the nail in the coffin for me. I am perfectly happy with my new GH Platinum.
I needed this car 3 years ago, it's exactly what I wanted. A Lexus that could tow but was not a truck. I love my highlander but miss the Lexus service and my NX.
Lexus needs major help in the design department
they tamed the design, they always do this
The TX nose is brutal & yet they nailed the GX 550.
I hate to say this but they need to steal some design talent from Mazda or dare I say Hyundai/Kia? Those guys are hitting it out of the park when the lexus people are running on empty.
@@mrsargemeister I agree 100%. They haven’t changed anything in years. And that “Darth Vader” grill is just dated. Time to re-establish a unique look. Even BMW and Benz have started to change their signature look!
@@mrsargemeister mazda has been solid, but hyundai and Kia steal engineers from many companies. Toyota does what works, and i admit they may need to step it up. They have some really good designers in france.
Very Well produced video David !
What will the mpg be??? I hate that the platinum grand highlander isn't offered in 35 mpg.
I agree that the “ V6 PHEV” will be worth the extra money versus the Grand Highlander. I do question the CVT transmission choice for the V6 PHEV? Why not use the proven eight speed transmission?
Because the PHEV is all about efficiency and an the eCVT is far more efficient than an eight speed auto. Compare the efficiency numbers of the Lexus 550h+ to other 3-row PHEV SUVs (using autos) and you'll see it's massive.
V6 PHEV??? Take my money
V6 PHEV has a CVT transmission, no thanks.
@@finances-hp8ng if it’s the e-cvt that they use in other Toyota hybrids, I’m okay with it because its not the same as a regular cvt. Just wondering how much punch it has because this is the first time with a v6

Was looking seriously at the big Mazda but the T4 kinda bothered me, then I read that it was a 48v mild hybrid.... I'm out. As an "original battery" V6 hybrid owner with 210k on the meter, I just have to give my money to the same guys. Plug in is another bonus. Would be excited to try this car when it comes out. Great channel
Can you tell me if the new Grand Highlander has retained "Torque Vectoring" as in my 2021 Highlander?
Outside of the plugin, why is the gas mileage so much worse on premium fuel with the lexus? That much worrse just because they squeeze out some more hp?
Hmmm... very interesting indeed. The design of the Grand Highlander didn't resonate with me, but this Lexus equivalent looks rather nice. I was fairly content with my servicing visits for my new Sienna, but the better service of Lexus also sounds like a nice touch.
will the lexus take only premium gas? event though they share the same platform?
Maybe you can do a video detailing the driver's experience with a suspension that has "adaptive variable suspension" (e.g. Toyota Crown) versus those without. The upcoming Lexus TX 500h F-Performance has this feature and your past reviews of the Toyota Crown suggest it greatly improves ride and handling qualities.
Hi David,
I think the Lexus TX 500 is definitely nicer than the Toyota grand Highlander. I will always give me the title of being the best of the best of the best.
Respectfully,

What is the ballpark estimated cost for the PHEV version? I'm also thinking of getting that version.
Grand Highlander is better and cheaper! TX is more expensive because you are paying the name "LEXUS." Without the front logo of Lexus and the stamped L E X U S at the back, will you still buy it? Its a marketing strategy.
Only negative is the need for premium gas!
Agreed! PHEV, V6, can tow 5K #s (1,500 #s more than GH).
Drawback: reqr. premium gasoline? Glad the top trim line allows EV mode for shorter trips.
If the vin number doesn't start with a J I'm not buying it.
Thank you for the comment on the current state of Toyota service. We have both a Lexus and a Toyota currently and I have given up on Toyota service in my area of Ontario - it was the benchmark and is now truly awful. Great video as usual ty!
Toyota service is junk in almost every state. I have friends who would not purchase toyota just because of the bad service. Disappointed.
I don’t know how in real life looks, but in pictures the TX looks very ugly while Grand Highlander is beautiful. In addition TX has maximum seat of 6 while Grand has options of 7 and 8. It will be nice to have fair a pros and cons comparison. Simply due to the limit seat capacity, no chance for me to buy TX.
tx has options for 7 seats
my biggest and only factor in deciding between the two is the 8-passenger vs 7 passenger seating. I can't believe they have no 8 passenger version for the TX. that may end up forcing me into a grand highlander. I'm willing to pay the premium for the lexus, but want the 8 passenger when going to a car this large and family oriented.
Do you know when pricing will be released?
The Grand Highlander was my first interest until I saw the Lexus TX. I want to tow a small RV and skeptical of the 4cyl turbo on the Hybrid Max. I would rather tow using the 6cyl and have the option for a plug in like the prime (if the plug in can tow).
David, what about the seating between the TX & Grand Highlander? Is the 3rd row really adequate for 1 or 2 adults? And is a bench 2nd seat available in both models? Thank you sir.
Thanks David, let’s see the price difference then we can decide if it is worth it.
Do they all have the 360 degrees cameras
Will it require premium fuel?
Just because I can afford a Lexus doesn't mean I want to pay extra for fuel.
You can’t afford it if you can’t pay the premium fuel. This is just as simple as rich don’t blink when they buy 1st class tickets when travel domestically or internationally or shopping in the boutique stores…..
You don't have to use premium
There no reason to buy Lexus TX, Lexus TX is actually grand Highlander under Lexus batch, they share all the components, evenly the gear shifter. Not worth the extra cost.
The key phrase is "You'll have to decide whether that's important or not." That being said, the Grand Highlander Hybrid Max Platinum fits my needs
I love the TX 350 premium AWD. Would you know how long it would take to get one? I asked dealers but they only want your information and sell you what is in the lot. Thanks and keep up the great reviews.
this v6-turbo/ hybrid is same engine as the Le Man’s LMH car?
the plugin hybrid date isn't even announced, and with the wait times and all it'll be over a year before any of us would be able to put our hand on it.
TX has legit 3rd row seats vs truck based GX ( even those suburban/Tahoe s)
I own a 2022 gx , it technically doesn’t have 7 seats . 3rd row is no good for car seats or adults. Also if you manage to fit a human in the 3rd row you, have no cargo space. Thats why they are not even offering a 3rd row in the new 550 (offroady version). Trust me if you actually need 3 rows go for tx , ghighlander or maybe a suburban. Im actually thinking about trading in my gx for a tx
@@dochuecan’t fit car seat? Ain’t no way.
@@KhoiBoa yes there are no tethers for a car seat in the 3rd row seats
GH seats max 8 whereas TX seats only 7 in the lesser trims. Deal breaker for me and those who want to haul people
I was waiting for the 2023 Sequoia, but the third row was an issue. And for $80,000, I didn't think you get the value for the money. The Grand Highlander sounds more functional and practical, but now there's the plug in Lexus TX 500 h+ which checked all the boxes. But we have to wait for next year...
Its rear side appearance reminds me of a Dodge SUV.
DAVID can you please please tell Lexus to put the triple beam headlights on the new TX? I have them on my 2019 Prius prime come on
David , i think so because Lexus is Toyotas premium brand but what Toyota is doing is amazing I love the look of the new Tundra,Sequoia, Tacoma,Highlander ,now the Tz and Gz
.It's nice to see options. Toyota will have something for everyone
Have you driven the new tundra or sequoia? They are awful from a chassis and ride quality perspective
@Ryan McCormick no but I know of a couple people who own the tundra and they like it. I. Seeing them more and more
It will come down to preference
Looks amazing ... Great analysis
what's the cost of the plug in hybrid
i am the first depositor in ontario canada for the phev lets see when they deliver it.
I’m with you David: TX all the way.
Hi David, Any idea on what the towing capacity of the TX500 would be for all their power train options
The TX is better looking in every way, both inside and out. The TX pricing will be interesting to see when that is released.
the door latch being electric 3:00 is actually a bit spooky. I would want to know more about fail safe measures before buying a car with that tech. If the car loses electric power for whatever reason, are you trapped inside your car?
Good question
for your second point there, actually grand highlander platinum has Traffic Jam Assist as well!
but yea, other than that, the TX seems more luxurious! but its to be expected, its a LEXUS!|
The other difference you didnt mention is the available 22" wheels on TX, Grand Highlander only goes up to 20" wheels
The tx design is the same design and front grill from 2017-2019 highlander!
What is the towing capacity of the V6 Hybrid TX model?
5000lbs
Outstanding presentation.
I’d buy the Toyota Highlander in a heartbeat but if money isn’t in consideration, I’d be happy opt for the Lexus TX.
Great vid!
What are your thoughts if I get LX600 or TX500? Very confused.
Fiona be at least $30-40k difference. Your money, your pick, lol
You get what you paid for. Does that explain well?
Hey David what’s the towing capacity in the new TX ?
5000lbs
How much is the tx compared to the grand highlander?
Not so fast. You can get the panoramic moonroof in the hybrid TX option but you can with the Grand Highlander. Plus, the Grand Highlander gets 36/36 mpg on its hybrid but the TX only 27 mpg for its hybrid option.
How could you comparing Lexus GX vs Grand Highlander.
No debating about Grand HighLander.
That should be on separate review reports.
Lexus is highest quality interiors and exteriors and it is first class of Toyota.
How does the interior space and storage of these two vehicles compare to each other!
Very similar, but grand highlander has .5 more cubic feet of total cargo space
I can't wait this released to buy, I'll be booking TX 550 LUXURY plugged hybrid sys, since number if Lexus family owned since 1990, no way I'll go buy another vehicle over Lexus brand, I also owned Audi Q 7,regret buying, comparing Audi dealership to Lexus far better service and world class, I agreed with David, this alone make me continue to owned Lexus!!, nice reviews David.
I go with TX Plug-In... but waiting time to Pre-order ...!!!! I got Rav4 prime xse waiting for 6 months.
LEXUS all day. the quality is far better
Hi David, is the TX built in the same factory as grand highlander in the States?
Yes I do mention that in the very beginning of the video... in Princeton Indiana
There is no point leaving legroom for the 3rd row passengers or use the space between the captains chairs for easy access to the 3rd row since the GH is such a huge vehicle now
I have a 20 year old Lexus that looks like it’s 3 years old. Superior paint and parts.
Looks amazing! I bet it will sell very well indeed.
I want to know the difference in sound insulation between the GH and TX. Toyota doesn't do a great job at insulating their cars from road noise, so if Lexus was significantly quieter, then that would be a big selling point to me.
Regular hybrid 2.5 is the best engine for that SUV.
David , good comparison, I will definitely buy the TX
