      Last year in southern Texas I hosted a buff bellied hummingbird....beautiful with a bright orange red beak. I love the variety! In Kansas we only had the ruby throats...which I love too! But especially love having more than one kind now. Our season is getting ready to start soon.

    When I lived in Arizona, I had different varieties of hummingbirds. Prior to there, I had only seen Ruby throat. I wish now I recognized other types. Perhaps if I knew your youtube channel back then, I may have known more. Oh well, it was a great joy to feed them all there. God bless and thank you for all the information.

    Thank you for sharing your experiences. Since retirement, I have been caring for hummingbirds. I live a little north of you at 1600 ft. I, too, have the varieties of hummingbirds you describe in this video.
    We lost a little Costa ? the other night with the wind chill. The little guy I called "Lil Homey" would claim a feeder and chase the others away constantly. I feared he was expending much needed energy. That night, he chose to roost on the feeder. ( I had put umbrellas over the feeders to keep them out of the rain) Well, it was like a wind tunnel, and the wind chill must have been too much for him and did not wake up. He was still clutching on to the feeder. I am so sad to have lost such a beautiful and delicate bird with so much character.
    The birds try to stay close to the feeders in inclement weather. Do you have any suggestions to help them stay warm in the winter?

    Question: In southern ca I want to leave the feeders out for a couple of months in which flowers are scarce, is it cruel to do that? I hate for the time when I have to take the feeder away and they sadly desperately look for the feeders that are gone. The reason is because I can only put the feeders up at my parents house and it is inconvenient to do that so I only want to do it for when they really need the extra food. If I had my own house I would gladly put multiple feeders out year round, but that will not be for a while...

    • @RobbieAndGaryGardeningEasy
      @RobbieAndGaryGardeningEasy  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You do the feeders for the birds that will work for You. What ever system you come up with that works, is fine. It’s just that if there’s not enough food, and your feeders aren’t there, they’ll just move on. But the locals will periodically look for them, and watch when you put them out. 😊
