- Exclusive highly-prized footage of NZ's greatest-ever comedian. Unfortunately tape-damaged, Billy T poking fun at TVNZ's popular mid-Eighties "That's Country" series with an expletive-laden performance of a song affectionately entitled You Piss Me Off....without further ado, ladies and gentlemen, the late and very great Billy T James...

Third time in many yrs I've posted about this, is a shame it never made it to tv is the funniest one he did, Billy reminds me of my late dad he was the Maori version he is missed even today. Their will never be another Billy t.
Used to hear this on Dr. Demento. Had no idea there was a video. Even damaged, it's good to see it for the memories.

It’s insane to see amazing old footage after all this time
I remember this song! My brother and I would sing this song on the way to his rodeos along with “On the road again”. We also experienced a couple soapy mouth washes from our mother when she’d catch us singing it to our younger siblings. 🤣🤣🤣. My brother is dead now and this brought back so many wonderful memories. Thank you. 👏🏼🥰
I was in the Audio/TV biz back then (still am) and remember this being played one time at friday night drinks. NZ TV program 'That's Country" was particularly prim and proper then which made this all the funnier and relevant. That has to be taken into account..you sorta had to be there.
The only time iv heard billy t swear lol
Wow I was only 7 year's old and I remember this( I am 45 years old now). I wanted to find this for many many years - Saw it on a show called Uncle Floyd in 1984. Now I found it!! Thank you for sharing the best nostalgia of Billy T James ❤️ Rest in peace
Nice one bro. Born 1976 here, and I too remember this and other great kiwi shows. Also I'm now 45 years old now, and the 80s was the best days of me life. Take care brother. Rip Billy.
Often overlooked and under rated was our neighbour Doug Aston. He's the one playing the fiddle in this video. Longtime sidekick to Billy T on his shows. He was an entertainer in his own right, doing lots of acting, cabaret and old time music hall shows often with his friend Johnny Bond who lived in the next street from ours in Howick way back when. His son David Aston also went on to a stage and TV/movie career as an actor in NZ, though he, Doug, his brother and mother Heather were all born in England and immigrated to NZ in the 60's..
💙🤍
😊😃I'm very pleased to know I'm not the only one that loves the song but when last did you play it.
Thanks for sharing slydog, always loved Billy and never saw this before now, I knew Billy when he was a courier van driver in Whangarei, funny guy, he is missed
When I was young me and my dad would listen to this I was like 5 I'm so happy I found it
This must if been on a late late late night time slot this clip🤣🤣🤣
I remember listening to this when I was little at the bar that my dad owned. :D I used to ask for quarters to put in the juke box just to play this song :D
The girls look great.😊
Just great. Amazing.
I knew someone in A School in the Navy who'd walk around singing this thinking that everybody who listened to country knew this song.
I'd never heard it on the radio until a few years ago and YES it was censored every other word.
love him, he still cracks me up....
💕💞
thank you
This is great. I wonder how they got the F Word past the NZ Censor back then? Probably bleeps!
This needs to be remastered…
Thanks for posting this! He's tearin' up that guitar! Funny shit!

This is "The Rodeo Song" originally done by Garry Lee and Showdown, a band from Alberta Canada. Thanks for posting this rendition.

Yeah I used to hear this at teen dances in Ontario I've known it since I was about 12.
1983 actually, as this is on the set of his 1983 series. The 1984 series had a nightclub setting.
Used to listen this at the tavern in the late 80's.
NZ has only ever had two great Maori comedians and entertainers1/ Prince Tui Teka and/2/ the late great Billy T James both awesome and truly hillarious they are both missed so deeply - but - we have great clips like this one and thank you for posting ! I'm laughing like a BANCHEE ha haa ha lol xx
Eddie lLow and Sir Howard Morrison plus Howie Morrison junior are also up there too.
Pio and Mike King.
On the east coast of the USA there's interstate highway I-95; consequently, we call this song "the I-95 song"
Brilliant Comedian
Written by Canadian Gaye Delorme - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaye_Delorme
Recorded by Canadian Band, Garry Lee and the Showdown resulting in a CRIA double platinum album, Welcome to the Rodeo, used in Stephen Kings, Sleepwalker
Then I guess covered by Billy T James
Miming to the original

It was aired on the B T James show here in NZ.

Real country.

Song is actually a David Allan Coe number called The Rodeo Song.
Actually I see it’s already noted they are miming to Gary Lee’s version. Should read comments first.
If any of you would be interested in knowing about this video or the man singing ,goolgle his name, youmight be supprised at what and who you hear and see,the man passed away at the age of 45 yet he made a mark in history's book of greats, he was one of NewZelands top entertainer's ,he has music of all types an was good.GOD rest his soul.
Yeah its a shame a kiwi icon was taken so young cause of his heart condition
Not singing - miming.

Yes - bit of fun after filming an episode of his own series. A few days later, Billy gave me a VHS cassette of this. They're miming to the Canadian original. Look up "Rodeo Song" on TH-cam.

wow youre a special snowflake arent you
Christian Contreras stop being mean to me
Any way to get ahold of that tape might know how to get it cleaned up!
Dunno what is this shit, but I LIKE THIS SHIT!
Mainstream & outlaw country singer David Allan Coe also covered this song, look for it on his "X Rated" LP.
chris ledoux did this song too
😅🤣😅
What show was this on ?😊
Billy T James show
@merlin5420 I use to watch his show how come I missed it? I used to like the smart arse Aussie, what was his name?Remember the skit where he screws over car salesman ?
He played a mexican maori in a movie called "Came A Hot Friday" but apart from that, he's 100% maori
that movie is classic NZ comedy and Billy does a sidesplitting performance!
@@kerrymolloy5912 he was a bloody funny and talented guy eh.
It does annoy me sometimes that current NZ comedians are nowhere near as good as Billy, and yet people compare them and sometimes say that current comedians are funnier. Flight of the Concords is funny, but they are shit when compared to Billy's music.
Yeeha
My ex- used to sing this all the time.
😊😃I'm very pleased to know I'm not the only one that loves the song but when last did you play it.
rodeo song by gary lee and showdown?
Also by Leningrad Cowboys
Did he write this song? I've seen it attributed to many artists
Just miming. They did it for fun after filming one of his TV series shows.
th-cam.com/video/JT06WVpu-Pk/w-d-xo.html
Can someone edit this to get better video? Thx
shameful that this classic extremely funny tape was ruined by some carelessness ...CLASSIC
Funny, better than todays crap.Made me laugh
Does anyone know what sort of guitar billy is playing?
He's just miming
Fender Stratocaster
My god - spandex-wearing cowgirls!?!?!
This song was done by Showdown and is called "the rodeo song".
Yep. They're just miming.
Awww daaaangggg...its a pity with all the technician technology in our Modern Music World you would think that Producers of NZ Music would do something about fixing the bad Video Qualiry of this great Profanity buy Comical Country Song..
Like RE MASTER IT..like how they do to a lot of American and British or any other Countries Songs that need re mastering to make sound and video quality 100%..
If any one from the NZ Music Industry sees my Comment here then please do something about this Billy T James great Country Comical foul mouth Song..but it's fuckin Great ...🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
This was NOT David Allan Coe.
Was this on a TV show?....
Just for fun after filming an episode of Billy's series. Miming to the original...

obviously you do. you took time to comment.
had not a clue a mexican sang this song!
Sorry it was written by David Allen Coe, along with many other great tunes
it was written by Gaye Delorme and first recorded by Garry Lee and Showdown in 1980.
Not a David Allan Coe song.
Sorry to burst your bubble boyo, but Billy never pulled any punches in his live, off TV, shows - the ones performed for "closed", adult audiences. In those settings he could swear all he liked, depending on the crowd, of course.
I want chicken
Billy T James is not an Mexican. As a matter of fact he is a Maori from New Zealand.
to scrachy
uh
I imagine that Frank Zappa would have sounded something like this if he were into country instead of jazz and rock
Wow..I guess you told me.
Haha..
Not.
ive seen funnier
I miss right wing anti-semitism. Laughing even a Jew and Zionist. When people just said it out loud and it was harmless.
filth and funny as a heart attack.....
get a life
THANKS, BELIEVE I WILL KEEP THE ONE I HAVE......[T IS STILL FILTH AND NOT FUNNY IN ANY POSSIBLE WAY....
that is your opinion but I find it hilarious and Billy was one of the funniest guys around
William Baker you do not have a sense of humour must have been too much bible thumping in your life, your life must be pretty miserable if a funny song upsets you so much
probably a born again christian from the Politically Correct brigade
fake
You are fake
Not Funny at all..
