I love that, if you do a movie with Tom Cruise (and presumably don't piss him off that entire time), you get a free cake every Christmas for the rest of your life.
Angela Bassett is returning, from Fallout, in Final Reckoning, as Erika Sloane, then CIA Director and now POTUS. Henry Czerny returned, from the first film, in Dead Reckoning, as Eugene Kittridge, then IMF Director and now CIA Director. Obviously, with Jeremy Renner, it's a different circumstance. Would've been really interesting to expand on William Brandt's story. Alas, we possibly never will.
Mission Impossible has my least favorite habits in long running franchises where fan favorite characters just go awol without explanations like the Fox X-Men movies with Alan Cumming’s Nightcrawler and other supporting characters.
I feel like with the Mcquarrie lead films, particularly Fallout & Dead Reckoning, they began to forget about the rest of the IMF, and it just became about that core team led by Ethan. This has always been a thing with the franchise, tho, but it made more sense since it was structured similar to the og M.I. show, with a wide range of characters episode to episode. But with the franchise becoming more interconnected, it feels odd not to see some of these characters return. I believe they tried to get Paula Patton (Ghost Protocol) back for Rogue Nation, but scheduled conflicts kept that from being a reality.
I like to think that those characters just asked for transfers to a safer department once they realized they didn't have the same plot armour as Ethan Hunt. It's obvious each movie that even Luther doesn't like getting called back in. "I'm sorry, you're saying in this job I may be required to crash a helicopter into another helicopter in midair and still survive? Do you have more of a desk job available?"

A 90 second ad tacked on to a 3 minute interview is diabolical lol
Oh yeah wtf.

Smart move 👍👍👍 , he is abble to keep his character pride and image 💪💪💪
If only Rebecca Ferguson could have refused too, but I imagine she was still under contract and had no choice.
It's the one thing I didn't like with Dead Reckoning Part 1.
