  • Situated in an area known as the 'high plains', you'll be pleasantly surprised by what this small Wyoming capital has to offer. While out chasing the return of UP 844 in July, 2016, I found myself exploring other aspects of this frontier city, catching some typical Union Pacific action between the 844's arrival and departure to Denver.
We open our sequence at Speer, WY, the point where the Union Pacific Greeley Sub branches off from the Overland Route. It's here we catch numerous westbound trains, in addition to the wyeing of UP 844.
We then move east of Cheyenne as the weather turns for the worse, checking out a popular location: Archer Hill. Driving rain and wind accompany our opening shot from here, but the rain eventually stopped.
Power varies on all trains: older GEs and EMDs, with some newer units, all can be seen.
Enjoy, subscribe and thanks for watching!!

OK... So I gather the Frontier Days train got turned on the wye to eventually head to Denver with 844 in the lead?

I believe the doors on the bottom of the car are solar powered.

Appreciate your comment! This location is known as Speer Junction. It is just south of Cheyenne and is accessed off Berwick Drive.
