Emotional Slaughter - Black Uhuru
ฝัง
- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 5 ต.ค. 2021
- From the production, "Black Uhuru Alive".
This was a memorable concert held at the (original) Ritz in New York City, on June, 11 1986.
Black Uhuru, in this incarnation, consisted of founder Duckie Simpson, Junior Reid and the incomparable Puma Jones. The band on this particular tour, featured Santa Davis on drums, Earl (Chinna) Smith on guitar, Chris Meredith on bass, Anthony (Asher) Brissett on keyboards and Sky Juice on percussion.
I uploaded this tonight without realizing that October 5th was Puma's birthday. Although this is Duckie's song, Puma's performance here is transcendent...it seems her spirit is very much alive.
Special thanks to the crew-cameramen: Jefferson Miller, Jabari and Bill Megalos, engineer: Dan Epstein, camera assistants: Stuart Sporn and Orville Bennett, sound engineer Steve Remote, lighting designer Edgar Gordon, and of course, visionary director, Stafford Ashani, may he rest in peace, my partner in Reggae Strong for many years.
Portions of of this video were shot in Jamaica in 1987.

One of the best Uhuru songs. Great to see this line-up performing live, excellent band - I think Chinna Smith is on guitar. The beautiful Puma Jones is missed!

this is the Black Uhuru song that i put onto a mix tape back in the 90s. it is the song that brought me into the visible aspects of this group. i looked up the song and found all of these awesome videos featuring an awesome singer, Puma Jones. though Michael Rose and Sly and Robbie are sadly missed. this line-up is an amazing representation of the music, the dance and the passion of Black Uhuru. she is unmistakingly the coolest vocalist i have ever heard.

It was the Church that enslaved and pushed the idea of the black race as a "slave race". The first slave ship was named "The Good Ship Jesus", the connection goes back to the very beginning. And it was the Mosque that did the same in Africa and across the Indian Ocean.
"When the White man arrived in Africa, we had the Land and they had the Bibles. When they were done, we had the Bibles and they had the Land." - Desmond Tutu
