Wow the K5LA on 24 at 1:08 was gorgeously tuned and sung beautifully in that clip! And I've heard a lot of great Genesis K5LA's but there's definitely something different about 24's K5LA. It's definitely one of the best Genesis K5LA's I've ever heard and might even be the best! Sadly 24 has since caught fire and has been retired. There's also barely any videos of 24 on TH-cam witch is a real shame.

sadly the things we love most about our historical, absolutely massive powerhorses, get torn away by train accidents :( But we will always remember 24.

24 returned to service after that fire. It was wrecked in 2020 alongside P40 822 after a grade crossing incident and was retired AFTER that incident

(5:32) Unfortunately AMTK 169 no longer has that Narrow Font K5LA, or any NF K5LA for that matter. I recently rode Amtrak’s California Zephyr 5 that departed the Chicago Union Station in Chicago, IL on 7/10 of this year. AMTK 169 was leading with a new Raised Letter K5LA… Unfortunate.

Ignore the other responses.
It’s a circuit breaker that comes on once a train headed one direction enters that section of track until the next signal, the red signal comes on automatically to show a train is occupying the track from the other direction
