I want to have 5v , 12v, 24v in a single circuit. I have 24 v smps as dc source if I am connecting 24v dc to the input of 7805 the ic is getting hot. How can I get 5v, 12v and 24v using 24v smps please guide me
Amar Vangani that is because the simple DC regulators dissipate the extra voltage as heat. So if you draw 1 amp at 5 volts (5 watts power) from the regulator, if you are putting 24 volts in, you’ll generate 19 watts of heat! You should google DC DC step down converter. They are cheap.
