    Actually.. We calculate Van der Waals radius for Noble Gases and they have the highest radius in their period.. So answer to the first question is Fl>Pb>Kr>Ge>Br.. Hence answer given in this video is wrong..

      I’m saying though cause he started from the right when you posed to start from the left as work across so it decreases, and as you go down it increases.

    3:00 But aren't the noble gases supposed to have greatest atomic radii in their respective periods due to their non-bonding nature vanderwaal forces between them? Then the order would be Br

    When comparing ionic radius, you gave us a best/easiest case scenario where all elements have both the same # of electrons and the same energy level, well then of course the only remaining factor is the # of protons. What about when there are also different amounts of electrons and different energy levels? How do we then determine ionic radius if we have 3 things to consider: amount of electrons (more = bigger radius due to electron repulsion), energy levels (more = bigger radius), protons (more = smaller radius due to proton-electron attraction)...I'm trying to figure this out for Chem 11...

    Professor dave, you know what i love from every video of yours?
    I really love the way which music is like "he does know about science and stuff professor dave explains!" At beginning of every video. Woow it sounds cool man hahaha xDDDD
    You did a great job on music part, it gives excitement such that even a sleepy person can wake up by that music. Nice way of waking up people with that music.

    Is ionic radii of metals less than their atomic radii?

    • @sameersachan8427
      @sameersachan8427 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes since metals have tendency to give electrons, same nuclear charge lesser number of atoms results in ionic radii being smaller than atomic one

    I have a question, we all have studied that : Vanderwall radius> covalent radius. So Ne has Vanderwall force between them right? So it must be 'kr' which should be the largest in this question, but idk why kr isn't the biggest, can you plz tell me why?

    • @ProfessorDaveExplains
      @ProfessorDaveExplains  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      this question is not discussing any intermolecular forces, it's just about atomic/ionic radius.

      Radius has nothing to do with reactivity, it's just about the number of protons in the nucleus and the number of shells. Neon has one more proton than fluorine.
