As a kid I had number 11 on my hawthorn jumper because Gary Buckenara was one of the most skillful players at Hawthorn. When he retired I was worried his replacement might be a dud and I'd have to change the number...never dreamed that the next number 11 would be the most skillful player of all time imo. This guy was on another level. Played at the same time as Gary Ablett Sr. so they were so busy heaping praise on him that Jarman slipped under the radar a bit. Yet I think he was even better than Gazza. He was the most naturally talented player ever imo. Had the ball on a string and just toyed with the opposition all day long.
Arguably the most gifted footballer of all time. That highlight package is one of the best I've seen, if not the best. Let's not forget him going up a level or two at adelaide
Yes quite possibly the most skilled ever...Could target a player with precise kicking on both sides of the body with flat out speed...Nobody in the history of the game could do this better
I watched Jarman live for Hawthorn every week. Not only were his skills brilliant but his ability to always know where to put the ball for his teammate was out of this world. Both feet ! Always seemed to have a tonne of time. Huge respect ✊. What a player !!!!
Darren Jarman has a highlight reel that NOBODY will ever get close to let alone match. Makes the near impossible look like childsplay. I don't think that I have seen a footballer who seems to have a eternity to dispose of the football and perfectly hit up a teammate and on either left or right. Older bro Andrew definitely deserves a noteworthy mention on his freakish skills aswell ( especially his lighting hands) great DNA in the family I'd say 😀
I heard the words brilliant, marvel, genius, skillful, clinic, casual etc D.Jarman was the most naturally gifted footballer i have ever seen, to think these highlights were only some from Hawthorn, He dominated before this at The Roosters as well, those last quarters in the Crows Grand Finals were simply unbelievable, the man is football royalty in SA & so he should be what a freak! Great memories! Thanks for posting mate👍
Jarman Ablett senior Absolute natural freaks I saw Gary Ablett senior Stand on the heads of a pack of players in a reserves game at Princess park in the early 80s He was 17 yrs old Having shots at goal from 60 metres out The speed & selling candy were out of this world He was the boy playing men...it looked the other way around
Great vid and memories. Fudd was my idol growing up and seeing magic on the weekly was a privilege indeed. From Prossy to Waverley and back to West Lakes, he was the King.
Would like to see a showreel of Fud at North Adelaide where he learnt his football. That's when he played his best and I was fortunate enough to witness it all.
One of my mates rocked into work hungover one morning. I asked what he got up to last night. He said he was at a house party and talked footy with Darren Jarman till 3 in the morning. I was so Jealous.
As a Scot who lived in Adelaide in the 70s and loved Aussie Rules I thought no one would ever be better than Barry Robran....Then I saw this, nuff said..and his mum is Scottish.
Damn he could play. And to think players like him, plugga and Diesel Williams probably wouldn't get drafted in today's game because clubs pick athletic ability over skill
@@TOM-vq4sj nope disagree. Brereton and Buckenara were much more enjoyable to watch. DJ was slow, boring and had a big whinge whenever he didn't get his own way like all south australian cry babies.. Rioli was a cheat like most of the hawthorn team of the 2011-2015 period. Hawthorn team/s of the 1980s are THE greatest of all time, nobody would've beaten them.
Yes, even Dunstall acknowledged that himself, along with Pritchard, Platten and Buckenara but he said Jarman was the best to lead to. Check out "Darren Jarman and Jason Dunstall - what a combination"

Probably Daicos, but Jarman and Winmar would be up there.
Best skills of any player on both sides of the body- past or present. Peerless
One of the most natural footballers I’ve ever seen. All quality and class.
Dunstall said best deliverer of a football that hes ever played with

I saw him playing in North Adelaide beside his brother Andrew in the mid 80s in particular their 1987 SANFL Grand Final win. Natural. Born. Talent.
Sold more candy than a chocolate factory.

He was a gun at the crows too 💪💪🤙
Would've made Petracca look like a VFL player

@@cweatherfella547 - I agree mate! I miss those days and the commentators were awesome back then as well👍
I saw him kick 50 and 60 metre drop kicks that weren't higher than 6-7 foot. And most of those were on the run. He was a magician
If Jars hadn’t left Hawthorn to join the Crows, Adelaide wouldn’t have won 2 premierships in a row.
Fair call
If jarman signed with Adelaide in 91 the crows probably win multiple flags not just 97 and 98

He had the best baulk, ever seen.

You can have your abletts, locketts and dunstalls. No one comes near this bloke
Not only the best kick to play the best decision maker and throw in the best candy seller of all time
Had Jarman played alongside Dunstall 12 years Dunstall would’ve ended up kicking 1800.
The balance & agility for a bloke of his size & frame was just subliminal.

10:50 - absolutely incredible. Saw it week in week out. This move was brilliant !!
Silver Service by Darren Jarman
The Rolls Royce
You reckon J.D. has D.J. on his Christmas card list ?
Skills. Both feet. Incredible.
Better than any current player.
By a mile.
A complete freak.

And both played for the mighty Roosters!
Geez...He was good to.watch wearing brown and gold. In that other strip he was damn good too. Loved this fella Playing Aussie Rules.
Forget how good this guy was ,
He actually fools himself with his own dummies they're that good...
Damn he could play. And to think players like him, plugga and Diesel Williams probably wouldn't get drafted in today's game because clubs pick athletic ability over skill
I love you Darren Jarman.
Thank you for being a privelage to the game.
You're one of the best ever mate.
We all love you.
Never seen so many skills in one highlight package
Dang that man jarman
The Charlie Cooke of Aussie rules. Fantastic player even better than Sir Barrie Robran.
A rolls Royce!
Best player ever! Silky smooth
Mr magic
Awesome job mate
10:50 is pretty good too
He sat on his brothers head in a couple of these highlights. I bet he reminded him about that over a beer in years afterwards.
Great player old mutley
Best bauk ever
Great video Stem. Any chance of a Darrin Pritchard vid?
Officially in the works... along with a few others. Give me a few weeks...

Awesome vid
Name a better two sided player than Jarman? Williams maybe. Buckley possibly.
Sam Mitchell... maybe?
Buckley skill was overrated compared to Jarman
Consistency was Buckley's strength
Jarman was a freak
Acka maybe his only peer
Leon Cameron has to be considered.
Scott Pendlebury plays very similar to Jarman I feel.
All the time in the world - yes. Skills? No.
Buckenara and Brereton were both better players.
LOL.. Defensively those two were useless. Id pick DJ and Cyril any day of the week over those one-way players
