    Your rose garden is so wonderful! So nice to see a video where the roses are actually in the ground! Royal Jubilee is a real stunner. Wow! I could almost smell Gertrude Jeckyll as you spoke about her. lol. Is she also a pollinator? TY.

    • @kenvoong5977
      @kenvoong5977  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Frans, thank so much. Yes most of my roses are in the ground but now any more roses I buy will have be in pots.
      Royal jubilee is certainly very underrated rose in my opinion. Gertrude is famous for having a gorgeous strong scent. She’s is really starting to mature. This year it will be her 3rd year and it only gets better with age. Not sure 🤔 if it’s good pollinator though.

    Hi Ken, your roses are beautiful ! They are holding up really well considering the terrible weather we've had lately. You have lots of colour and I can only imagine the fragrance wafting around your garden must be wonderful, love the orchids too ! Looking forward to part 2 🌹

    • @kenvoong5977
      @kenvoong5977  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Linda, my garden isn’t bless with open views like yours. Most of my plants are sheltered from wind. Most of mine is in pretty good shape.
      I once had an orchid addiction too with over 30 around the house, now I only have about half as they do require lots of care. God knows what I’ll be in to next!!!

    Thoroughly enjoy your video. I especially like your patience in showing the whole garden and the time spent on each rose. May I let you know that Leonardo Da Vinci rose is bred by the Meilland company. I have one and it is the most lasting rose on the bush.

    Lovely video Ken. So many money shots! Your garden is doing way better than mine. To give you an idea 😂You have more flowers on any one of your roses than I have in my entire front garden! I wish I could have shown you in my last video 2nd flush hit hard there. My Leonardo one of the few in the front doing well. Watch that Japanese anemone mate if you have it growing on a wild area it’s roots will spread over time and come through concrete. But a lovely garden as I’ve said before and your roses are doing very well.

    • @kenvoong5977
      @kenvoong5977  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You are too modest JayJay . I have to take my hats 🎩 off to you for bracing the rain to show us your mums garden . I’m no where as dedicated as you. Thanks for the heads up in regards to the Japanese anemone JJ, never knew these are such evasive plants. I’ll be pulling some away nearest to the patio slabs.

    • @Jay_Jay
      @Jay_Jay ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@kenvoong5977 you won’t pull that up Ken it spreads via the roots. A lovely flower but keep an eye on it. If left for a period of time them roots will spread and give your nine weeds a run for their money. :) ours was left for many years and hell of a problem.

    Hi Ken, Your garden's looking great. My Gabriel has the second flush and I'm pleased with the size of the blooms. Can't say that for a lot of my roses this year! If I had to name some as a car like you, I'd have to say Fred Flinstone's or Del Trotter's! You are right, gardens are hard work especially with all the other things we have to do in life. I was outside on Thursday for six hours as it was the first dry day we've had for ages then yesterday and today I've pottered. Just watered all the hanging baskets and noticed that the front lawn needs cutting again. I expect you're like me and have a lot of watering to do as you have lots of pots. I sometimes wonder why I've made my garden such high maintenance but it's worth it when people compliment me on it. I love your swingy chair with the thatched roof. Have a great week.

    • @kenvoong5977
      @kenvoong5977  ปีที่แล้ว

      lol 😂 Fred flinstones !!! At least it’s reliable. I suspect my bony legs not going to get far in manual mode. I’m definitely those good weather gardeners, little bit of rain 🌧️ and I’d be legging for cover. But these days not have to mow the lawn and constantly chasing after squirrels 🐿️ are the by gone days.

    Hi Ken! I understand about life's responsibilities and trying to make time for other things like our garden. I face the same thing--cook, chores, or go out to prune and fertilizing??? (which are more appealing & relaxing to me). But life's chores come first before plant's care. My roses are not doing so well either with the heat and neglect... I've been trying to get Royal Jubilee in the US but no luck yet! TY for the video. Very informative! Happy planting!

    • @kenvoong5977
      @kenvoong5977  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you Melissa, yes having to balance working 10 hours a day and family duties to care for, I’m surprised any of my roses are alive . Us weather can be is very extreme and same for uk as we get so much rain and our roses constantly battered .
      But sitting back and admire the hard work is by far the best relaxation remedy.

    I noticed in the David Austin handbook they suggest planting alliums with roses to help prevent blackspot. You have a few alliums around your roses and I just wanted to ask if you have noticed any benefit planting them together. I have really enjoyed all of your videos.

    • @kenvoong5977
      @kenvoong5977  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you Verity, I have seen post regarding planting alliums with roses can prevent back spots. I haven’t noticed any difference, but I do know catmint, sage , herbs , lavenders can prevent aphids and other bugs eating our roses. Weather climate and not pruning properly are the most common cause of black spot. I personally don’t think there is any plant that can combat black spot.

  • @gavinparry5426
    @gavinparry5426 ปีที่แล้ว

    Your garden looks lovely Ken.
    My Lady Emma riddled with Blackspot this year Ken. DA have discontinued it as it's not a 'healthy' one. Having said that one of my best performers this year has been the wonderful Brother Cadfael. This Rose also discontinued by DA. Country Parson another disappointing Rose for me this year with heavy blackspot etc

    • @kenvoong5977
      @kenvoong5977  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Gavin, you’re not the only one who’s roses are riddle with the disease. Mines are light compared to some others not to mention names( JJ ). 😂 I say that coz he keeps on mentioning you in his videos. Having lady Emma this healthy is most likely down to pure luck or perhaps I have black spot phobia, as soon as I see any sightseeing of black spot, I’d be plucking it like a dead chicken 🐓

  • @winnielui1224

    Hi, how to avoid black spot on rose?

    • @kenvoong5977
      @kenvoong5977  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Winnie, Wet damp Weather is never any good for roses, pruning also plays a part. Certain roses has better diseases resistant. Last year weather in uk was awful and majority of our roses were infected. But that won’t affect the rose the following year. So really there could be number of factors which may cause roses to have black spots. Applying fungicides is almost an option. I apologise for not being too specific with my answer as it’s a common issue we all have.
