I did exactly what you’ve just done last year, only I did half with mycorrhizal fungus and I could really see the difference, the treated ones turned out much stronger plants. That new strawberry planter looks really smart, I’m sure they’ll love it in there.
That's good to know about the mycorhizal fungus Pete. I've got a bag of that in the tunnel at the plot. Just need to try and remember to use it when planting these ones out 👍🌱👍
Hi Mark, the weather has been crazy, we had snow, rain, wind, freezing conditions, then 15C in the day & 7C overnight. We have now dropped to 1C 🤔 I watch another TH-cam channel The ripe tomato Farm & he is American. He only feeds his strawberry plants in Spring, only once then once in Autumn. They are happy being Watered lots, rather than feed. It worked a treat for me this summer, I had so many strawberries, my variety are "Cambridge " from Thompson & Morgan, bought them 2 years ago. I'm sure your new strawberry plants will flourish this coming season. You are very good at what you do and always share your knowledge too. Thanks for sharing and take care 😊
@@terrykingsallotmentgardening try the "everlasting" variety as they fruit right through to October, smaller fruits but prolific if fed regularly and in hanging baskets in the polytunnel, hung from the crop bars, no slugs can get at them either!!
We had a bad strawberry year down south too. Grew Honeoye and Cambridge Favourite some years ago and after a couple of seasons both varieties ended up ripening at the same time. Honeoye was my favourite and a very heavy cropper. Also had a tiny extra plant and it did really well so am sure yours will outperform all the rest 🍓
I grow my strawberries 🍓 in pots so I can protect them from slugs and move around as needed. Awesome looking bed Mark 👍. Stay safe and try to keep warm, Ali 🥶☔️🇨🇦
Think I might try some in some sort of container next year as well. Quite fancy trying a hanging basket in the polytunnel to see how they get on in there. Like the idea of being able to move them around to where they need to be 👍🌱👍
Love the forward thinking towards next season! I didn't do to bad this year with my straws' tall planters & sharp gravel added as the fruits formed kept the slugs at bay.
That's a good idea to have the sharp gravel in there to keep the slugs at bay. Will have to get planning on that front as that last thing I need is a pesky slug destroying my new plants/fruit 👍🌱👍
Great update Mark , love the idea of strawberries in a raised bed which is how i grow mine , 1st year with new plants last year and they were netted and results were so so , heres hoping for a better year next year im looking forward to see how your new bed goes 👍
I grew strawberries in hanging baskets in the polytunnel, the variety was Everlasting, and I've had great results, fed every week when I fed the tomatoes with tomorite and cal mag.
Hiya Mark. I had a pretty rubbish strawberry year this year but I have loads of baby plants to revitalise my stocks for next year. Varieties I grow are Cambridge Favourite, Honeoye and Marshmello. That’s an impressive new raised bed. Good luck with your strawberries. All the best. Mags
only a few miles along from you and we did;t get the snow. We had some fall, but it melted as soon as it landed. We did get a few days of freezing cold though and unlike you, I wasn't organised. I had some bare-root strawberries sitting out on the bench unprotected 😫😫 Do you think they'll still be a live???
I started growing strawberries in a metal bed this year and we had a really good crop until Mr Badger decided to help himself and wreck half the plants 😢

@ That’s how I ended up doing the experiment of half and half, totally forgot to do them when I started 😂👍

Never bought any strawberry plants, but something to consider to get an easy and late harvest.
🍓Happy gardening, Terry King.

Be interesting to see if I get a decent spread of fruit throughout the season as the pack promises. 👍🌱👍

@phirst55 thank you, will add it to my book.

Hoping the strawberries do well next year as this year was a complete disaster. 👍🌱👍
Quality content as usual. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Cheers John 👍🌱👍

Ahh I'd kind of forgotten about trying them in the polytunnel.
Think you might have just given me an idea Phil 👍🌱👍
@marksallotmentplot I hang the baskets from the crop bars, no slugs can get to them either, that verity fruited until the end of October

Hey Mags, it was a funny old year for the strawberries up our way this year that's for sure.
Hope you have better luck next year 👍🌱👍
I have grown all my strawberries in old gutters on my fence works great going to try them in a Mr stacky
Must admit I'm tempted to get some more and try them up off the ground.
The My Stacky looks like it'll be great for growing strawberries in 👍🌱👍
Put a worm into each pot and they will fertilize and make the soil richer.
Now there's a good idea!
Will see if I can dig a couple up and give that a try 👍🌱👍
Fantastisch Good work mark you the best te kas verplanten in potjes thans te video Top week 👍🍓☘️🍂👍☕️🌤🧤🧣
Thanks Luc 👍🌱👍
Where are you going to use the tractor !😊
Excatly the same weather here mate in EK.but Sat nights temp at 11pm was 11c mental
The weather has been pretty nuts of late.
We're forecast to be down to -4c tomorrow and then back up to 13c by the weekend 🤔

Now there's a good question!
They're pretty hardy but not sure if they'll cope with the roots being exposed.
Guess there's only one way to find out 😛
