Great video Dante! I really enjoyed that you gave new collectors different options on collecting a Spider-Man series OTHER THAN Amazing Spider-Man. Thank you again for your videos! We'll talk soon
Great video D! If I can add a few myself (I'm a big late 80s/early 90s guy) that for me as a reader, hold a special place in my heart ...Legends of the Dark Knight, Punisher (War Journal & War Zone,) and Amazing Spider-Man 301-328 (most of the Todd McFarlane run). Also Peter David's run on Incredible Hulk was great and the Weapon X run in Marvel Comics Presents is incredible. Except for a couple key issues, most of these books are probably pretty cheap.
Great video, Dante! You got Web of Spider-Man #1 for a bargain! It's flying up since the movie came out and will probably keep going up due to that cool cover and the new movie coming out next year. When I was a big Spider-Man fan, I always kind of preferred the Peter Park: The Spectacular Spider-Man issues to the Amazing Spider-Man books at the time. It seems like the PPTSS crew were better at getting all of the stuff in their books....Peter's college life, social life, and great Spidey action. Amazing didn't seem like they could quite get it together in the right doses. A couple of other somewhat expensive issues in the series are #27 and #28 for that early Frank Miller work. And the #64 first Cloak and Dagger drives me nuts, since it used to be decently priced for so many years, but just flew through the roof last year because of the tv show, I guess. I should have gotten it when it was cheap. There are some great story arcs in that book, though, so it's not one to be missed if you want a full Spidey run and don't feel like messing with Silver Age prices for Amazing. Just that Spidey/Black Cat/Owl/Doctor Octopus story that ran through #73-79....Awesome stuff! Man of Steel is super affordable, too. Got a run in a grab box for fifty cents each. So it's probably cheaper to buy the single issues than the trade in that case. But it does have a lot of historical significance. Other good runs I would suggest that are affordable are the Micronauts series from the late 70's-early 80's. Awesome sci-fi at a really decent price! And the Rom series from Marvel was some really good reading and is super-cheap! Even the X-Men crossovers, which honestly read more like X-Men books than Rom, are very affordable. The sci-fi horror aspect of that book just makes it an awesome read. I would also say Werewolf by Night, but the first issue and #'s 32 and 33 kind of cag that. #1 is suffering from that Bronze Age price increase, which is great if you already have it, but it's getting harder to get it cheap. And #32 and 33 with the Moon Knight first appearances....Honestly, they're priced waaaay out of the market for new collectors. But the other issues are really cheap for the most part. Well, I'll shut up, since I could go on and on about good starter series. The ones you mentioned are all good starts. It's funny how so many of those were expensive right after they came out, but now they're pennies on the dollar. The issues of Spawn from #100 up are way more expensive to collect than the first one hundred. Take care!
Another great video Dante! Lots of great 80s & 90s titles to reccommend! If I could make a suggestion for new collectors; try movie adaptation comics. It may seem strange, but some have great artwork, like Batman Returns, that could go up in value, like The 1st Tim Burton Batman!
Great story, great art, great condition specially if its affordable, not particular for the titles or significance, more on the underrated stuffs, im in for collecting. Not much on the business investment side of it but more on the eclectic artistic side of collecting.
Here's some other goodies: Web of Spiderman #100, Xmen #25, Wolverine #75, Trials of Venom: UNICEF issue, Spirits of Venom miniseries, Sword of Azrael miniseries, Medieval Spawn and Witchblade miniseries, and The Darkness #1! Good books that have great art, stories, and are surprisingly cheap ( outside of EBay)!Also...spoilers...When I was a kid...I did call to have Robin Killed! Bwahahahahaha!
Lmao yeah!!! So glad to hear from someone who helped kill Robin. Jason Todd was a snot lol and I will check out some of those! I actually didn’t even know about a lot of them lol
Hey brother another great video even though I would never recommend Todd's Spiderman or X-Factor to anyone wanting to get into reading comic books. The writing was really below average for both titles. Remember up to this point in time McFarlane really never wrote comics and Rob well I'll be nice and not say anything, lol. That being said I do agree that the remaining series that you've listed are good choices. I was a huge Knightfall fan. Azrael to this day I still find to be the best Batman to ever be created. Azrael was an Iron Man Batman. I also was a big New Mutants fan until around issue 50. I always favoured Spectacular Spiderman over the Amazing title when I was buying comics off the newsstand.
Ha ha yeah, the writing in xfactor and Spider-Man definitely was not the greatest! New mutants and Spectacular were awesome. I think my favourite on the list definitely was spectacular. And I definitely agree with you on Azrael lol
Great upload D. Tell everyone to grab Thor 6 when it comes out,for cover price, and Something Is Killing The Children can still be grabbed at cover price and they are getting hot just now as its optioned, and is a great story too. If you get a moment Zoom me mate, got idea to discuss with you. L
I was rolling my eyes like two Pinballs in an Arcade Game for the first nine minutes of this video ..But then you mentioned The Man of Steel mini series and we were off to the races . Not only is the Man of Steel Mini series very affordable , 99.9% of DC's Post Crisis output in the first five or so years is as well .I consider this to be the best DC period ever , with The Legends Mini Series , The Bwa Ha Ha Justice League , the 3 Superman (eventually 4)'titles , Green Arrow and on and on .The only books that will cost you ANY kind of money is Legends #3 ( first Suicide Squad ) and some of the Batman and Detective Comics issues . I can recommend nearly EVERY DC title from that era and it is as affordable as it is enjoyable . As for Spectacular Spider-Man , I recently picked up a pretty good copy of Issue #1 for four bucks .And the vast majority of the series is affordable , it DOES have the first Miller Daredevil art (issues 27, 28 ) and those ARE fairly pricey , but other than those and the first appearance of Cloak and Dagger , you can collect this series without going broke .And it was every bit as good as the Amazing Spider-Man at the time . Well ..I see you're talking about Spawn so it's time to start rolling the old eyes again 😁 . Another great video Dante . Gotta rest the typing digits , it's been awhile since I've done one of my War and Peace length comments .
Lmao aha ha how I miss the war and peace comments! I totally agree with you. Anything Dc from that period was amazing. They definitely were better than Marvel for sure! Man of Steel is amazing! Love that series!
