It’s easy to make the mistake of thinking all 125 geared bikes are the same - after all, by law, to adhere to the A1 learner classification they can be no bigger than 125cc and produce maximum power of 11kw (14.75bhp) - with a maximum power-to-weight ratio of 0.1kw per kg.

I live at the third world country where a 250cc is already considered "big", and just having to own a R15 V3 (the 155cc version of R125 here in asean) already makes me happy.
ride it as my main daily transportation, it fulfill every expectation. looks sporty, very good fuel consumption, decent performance.
I just love it.

Was gonna buy a ninja but I saw a beautiful MT and had no choice but to get that instead
I love my little Grom (Honda msx) 👌 alot of people I see out and about seem to aswell or they laugh at it, either way they smiling 😅. My first time on a dual carriageway It was all going perfect until I started going uphill 👀 redlining the poor girl at 50mph whilst being overtaken by everyone was slightly embarrassing... you learn to embrace the feeling 😅
I am considering a Grom or a Navi. Cant decide which one I want. I have plenty of time as the school is booked till Feb for classes.

All of these full-size, small displacement bikes would be great beginner bikes here in the states. Too bad we don't have something like these minus the GROM. Everyone sells the GROM. As fun looking as it is I'm not fond of the scrunched "mini-bike" feel. My friend and I acquired our motorcycle licenses this year due to rising gas prices and we've been riding around on some 250cc dual-sport bikes.
They're not super powerful but they can cruise at 55mph just fine. We were out all day Sunday just riding around and enjoying the sunshine. There's a lot of back roads to drive around on here so there's no point needing to take the interstate to get to where we're going. Unless there's a location we'd like to go to that can only be reached by interstate travel that is. But we're not worried about traveling that far just yet. When we start traveling further out we'll probably have something bigger by then that won't struggle to contend with traffic. In the mean time our 250's get us around just fine. :)
I personally started on a nsr 50 at 16, then went to a 125 and 250 when I turned 18 due to age restrictions. But I think 250 is a good starting point when learning to ride, not crazy power but enough to get on a highway. The insurance and licensing side is very strict here and that stops others from getting a bike, it's sad. Everything seems easier in the States 😁
@@RHauto Usually anything around here in the 250-300cc class is considered a beginners bike. They're strong enough to get you around but are not strong enough to get you in trouble.
Depending on what type of bike it is they're also easy for new riders to get the hang of. Also, there is no age restriction on how old you have to be to own a certain size of bike.
If you have the physical money to buy it, a dealer ship will sell it to you. But a good dealership will also try to steer you toward a bike you're capable of handling, not just sell you the biggest thing they have.
A lot of the time what will stop some young riders from getting the fastest bike they can is the cost of insurance. Insurance companies will do a background check when you go get the rates for a plan and they'll see you're a young rider trying to insure a fast bike. Then they'll charge a big amount because they see young riders as careless and being a potential hazard on the road when something fast is involved.
My friend and I have small displacement 230cc dual-sport bikes. We geared them ourselves to cruise better at 55mph so the engines can rev at a more relaxed rpm. This area is both windy and very hill ridden so you tend to lose speed quickly. So our bikes are best suited for the more scenic back roads where the speed limits aren't as fast. You can go a short distance on the interstate/expressway but I wouldn't stay there.
I have my fathers old motorcycle that I need to get running. When I do so it'll be more than enough to allow me the ability to travel on the interstate safely. People around here are absolutely nuts when you're driving normally in a car. They're even worse when you're on a motorcycle. :)
When manufacturers try to sell small bikes in the US, Americans will not buy anything smaller than a 250 - and even those get mocked as a "girls bike". Other than maybe the Grom, the US just isn't interested in bikes this small. It's too bad - a 125 actually makes a great commuter for urban areas.
@@XV250 Actually that's not true at all. At least for my area. A 125cc bike can be fun for just driving around town. My problem with them is when there IS a 125 offered it's ALWAYS in the form of a GROM clone or it's a GROM clone made by a brand name like Kawasaki. Because those bikes are meant to be tiny and compact physically to me they look like something you buy your child as their first road bike. My hips also like to lock up easily so something like the GROM is out of the question. Companies always offer a 125 here in the states but it's always something using a low powered air-cooled engine. I have never seen a bike with a liquid cooled 125 like some of the bikes in this video. I see a lot of people riding around on the smaller 300cc bikes in the city area because they're affordable and use less gas. I'm sure something like these would sell just fine because not everyone wants a big bike nor do they ride a bike on the interstate. My friend and I have been riding around on 230cc dual-sport bikes and with the gearing we've done to them they travel at proper speeds on normal roads and back roads for the most part. But they're not powerful enough to go on the interstate at the required speeds.
live in india, if you love driving bikes under 400cc! many of these bikes are manufactured here, before exporting it to the rest of the world, making bikes under 400cc very cheap in india! here a ktm duke 125 brand new costs 1,800£ and yamaha R15 and MT15( a bigger 155c brother to R125 and MT125 respectively) costs around 2000-2200£.
i bought my less used ktm RC 125 for 970£!yes you read that right and it was hardly 2 years old!
I'm just in training for my bike license. I'm a female, a beginner, and only 5'2. I think what's important to me is a back brake that is comfortable. What would you recommend?
Suzuki GSXR r125, it's the smallest of the 125's with the best power to weight ratio, I think of all the 125's this will be the best fit. Hope that helps

I have a full bike license and 125cc Is more practical in the uk with all the speed restrictions and cameras, even motorways have 50-60 mph limits in place, along with rising fuel prices I’ll be sticking with my 2019 xmax 125 scoot, same head and barrel as the MT and YZF but loads of storage and faster than most 125cc bikes 😜
I would say get a 300-400 so those 50-60 mile speeds aren’t pushing the engine so hard but I agree you don’t need much bigger than that

Are 125 bikes restricted now? Back in the 90's my Honda NS125 F would do 75mph. Even my 65cc big bore yamaha fizzy did 55mph!
Lmaoo in the 80's/90's 125 bikes were built different. Now with E5 and the power resizing the new 125 gen is quite soft and with high cost.

Never knew there were so many 125’s sold. In the US most things start at 200 or 250 besides the mini-motos or scooters of course.
Beginner bikes here tend to be the R3, ninja 400, CB 300 etc.
the thing is, here in Europe we cannot start with any CC we want. At 15 years old you can legally drive a 50 CC moped which is restricted to 45 km/h (only in Italy can they go 80 km/h).
When you are 16 you can drive a lightweight motorcycle license, A1 (125 CC, 15 bhp and 11kW). At 18 you can drive an A2 license, which doesn't restrict you with motor size, but with the power produced, 35 bhp. Finally, at 24 years old you can get a full A license which takes all the restrictions off and you can drive any bike you want. I myself have A1 practical exam in 2,5 weeks. I have already bought my bike, the R125 (surprise surprise). Hopefully will pass so I can start driving at 11th of May.
@@televisio8652 Makes sense, probably would be good to have an A2 like license here in the U.S for new riders. I started on a CBR600R F2, not the best choice for a beginner.
emerging markets and europe have a lot of small displacement bikes because of regulations and money and in India and SEA they use it for transport not just for fun
I live on a small island in the uk so I dont need a bigger bike than a 125cc. So cheap to run, and i can go 86 mph with the wind behind me, dont fancy going any quicker than that tbh, I absolutely love my mt 125. I'm 29 years old so I could get any size bike I desire, 125 all the way

He didn’t look at the zero FXS 11kw version 44bhp but due to it being electric it can get around the 15hp limit by continuous power 44bhp super Moto similar to a drz 400 just slightly faster to 80/85 which is top speed but it’s a 125cc
Would smoke most bikes 500cc and below to 60 4.2 is a gd launch and so easy with no gears lol

It was a big mistake knocking the learner legal to 125cc IMO, they need to put it up to 250cc, because its a good Medium to getting a bigger bike when youngsters have past their Tests and it also has enough power to get you out of a situation like if you need to overtake, while the 125cc is umderpowered for the job IMO.

This should be titled "10 best sportish 125cc" there is more to motorcycling than sport bikes and many more comfortable options for 125cc.
Yeah but none of em are actually fast. Plus sport bikes are really comfortable you just gotta get used to the riding position.
No cruiser-style representation at all....such as the Lexmoto Michigan, Keeway Superlight etc.. Not everyone wants a sportbike and go as fast as possible.

No most of the time it's good if you can even manage 60mph. That's at 9,000 rpm on these 125's I was done after 1 month got something bigger. It wasn't much faster than my 50cc moped into a headwind
I think it's barely touch 60. But in my place, these bikes have 150cc and kawasaki even has 250cc
I dont think 65mph is a problem for some of these 125s, especially the sporty one.
but maybe it can be achieved on a rather high rpm. if you're gonna use it on a relatively crowded road where you gonna stop and go a lot, maybe you can go with KTM Duke or RC with their famous torquey engine.

The whole 125cc segment really got worse past 2012, the old two stroke screamers really put these things to shame. If anyone has the chance they really should try to ride a old 2t 125 (maybe not own one though)

My RG125FUN would nuke all of those bikes. It annihilated a brand new 300NINJA recently🤣. I have a ZXR400L9 as well and my RG isn't a million miles away from it to 60mph. It'll do over a 100mph... just lol but is a world away from the new stuff. I feel sorry for kids these days as I started my biking on a TZR125 many moons ago. It smoked the local plods CBR250SUPER DREAM which he was convinced was faster😅. God growing up in the 90's was a blast🤣🤙

When it comes down to pure speed? You’ll want a 2-stroke bike, as they are more available when it comes to trimming, making them go a lot faster. This is illegal of course, but many 2-stroke bikes tend to go a lot faster in the first place. You’ll have to maintain the bike way more frequently than you would a 4-stroke though, so I recommend a 4-stroke if you’re not into building and maintenance. As for the 4-strokes, I have no idea, maybe the R125 or some supermoto like the WR125X or even the MT-125

These things are illegal in Canada.
Suzuki should not be this low on the list, also, the lexmoto, Grom and Kawasaki should not even be on this list considering the likes of Keeway RKF, Benelli 125's, FB Mondial, Zontes which are available now and undercut these models for value and features.
