Technically if you're the only licensed driver in a vehicle with a student driver then any accidents they get into ARE you fault in real life when it comes to things covered under driver's insurance. A quick search says that it's a lot more nuanced for when violating criminal laws like Spongebob did, the student driver would definitely be charged for it, but the driving instructor (i.e. Ms. Puff) might also face charges to.

Not only does the breath kill people but Patrick literally makes SpongeBob cause an entire evacuation of the building, which has to be worth some public terrorism charges.
