    You can refill them with the Schmincke Aqua Drop fluid watercolors. I tried it and it works perfectly!

    Amazing what the right type of paper can for you!!!! Maybe that’s been my problem when I’m not getting the results I’m looking for 😳 Thank you Lindsay

    Interesting. I have the old set and don’t use them due to not being able to move the pigment much. Haven’t tried them on all the different papers I have. I thought it was just me or a bad set or something. Im gonna give them another go! Thanks for the inspiration Lindsay!

  • @olderendirt

    I can't add much that hasn't already been said, but the movement on different papers is pretty eye opening. The cap placement information is also good. Thanks so much for detailing your reviews and comparisons.

    This was another great review. It's so weird how they blend out so nicely on one paper and not another. I will have to check out the Hanamule paper as I love my arches paper. I put the 12 set on my wish list to wait for a sale!

    I think I saw your paper today do what mine did the other day, then you switched and the pigment reactivated perfectly.

    Thankyou Lindsay I checked and for once I have some art supplies the movers did not steal! I have 16 of the old markers and breaking them out tp test on a couple of watercolor paper that I have. then it is time for a project! thanks again for the information.

    very interesting, i have a set of the old ones which i've hardly used. The only success i had was by using the tin box as a palette, smearing pigment onto it then picking it up with a brush. Total waste of time and money. Somehow i never got them to blend out on any paper i tried.!
    after watching this and the thistle videos i just had to try them again. Paper is the key! Hot pressed watercolor paper, the color sinks in immediately; they worked fine on Fabriano and Arches cold press, also on the Bamboo paper. So all this time i thought they needed a slick surface. 🙄
    shame on me and thank you for setting me straight!

  • @suebouch4074
    @suebouch4074 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    This was great to see the difference in react-ability with the paper used. I have some of the original markers and the tin is nice but I bought additional colors and so they’re not stored together… anyway, Too often I get the first results because my “good” paper is being stored until I know what I’m doing. I realize now that I’ll never get the results I’m hoping for using paper not appropriate to the media. Thanks for sharing your insight and experience. I appreciate the time and energy you put into your videos. Have a great day! 🙂

    Great review! Would love to see how these compare to the Faber Castell Albrecht Durer watercolour markers and the Ecoline brush markers.

    • @thefrugalcrafter
      @thefrugalcrafter  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The ecoline are a dye rather than pigment and one sided. They work similar. I havent tried the Faber castel AD ones but they should be similar to these.

      I was going to ask the same, I would love to see how they compare to the FC Albrecht Dürer markers, which I‘m currently discovering for myself. I know FC doesn’t give pigment info but it‘s so convenient that I know the colours from their other ranges like Polychromos.

      The nibs on the promarkers seems very small compared to the Albrecht durer markers..

    The plastic packaging feels like something of a step backwards, especially as you can buy the individual colours and replace them in the tin rather than throwing plastic away. 🤔
    I have some of the Faber-Castell ones from a Scrawlrbox so it would be interesting to try these for comparison. 😊

    • @thefrugalcrafter
      @thefrugalcrafter  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, the packaging is a let down but I'm sure it adds to the cost and they are trying to keep the price down.

    I am pretty sure that people who avoid buying Chinese made products are conscientious objectors to what the CCP has been up to and or there are those who would rather support businesses that are more local or made in places other than China which already does get the lion-share of much of our business and whose goods have to travel long distances. I for one do appreciate when you reveal where things are made, because it isn't always obvious especially on sites like Amazon.

    I think you need to ask Santa for a lighted magnifying glass....the side bonus is it would fit perfectly with your Sleuth Lindsay image.......elementary my dear Weirich ;-). I think anyone who introduces new markers in this market is brave. The lightfast pigments are definitely a niche, but I'm unsure if the true audience for watercolor markers would care. Who knows? Thanks for another nice review.

    What do you think is the best full set of watercolor markers out there. I'm seeing Tombow for $229 at Jerry's but now I'm watching this video for Windsor and Newton. And there's other brands. Maybe you have a video comparing them - I'll look.

    I have the old ones and just bought the new ones so i can try doing the thistle. I like them but i have trouble with the paper or cardstock it won't move.. I did try them using the Hahnemulhe watercolor paper as you suggested on another one of your videos and the worked so much better.. Thank you OH and i pay attention when i put the cap on thanks to your advice I have damaged some before and thought how did i do that~! LOL I love what you did with them the leaf and flowers etc.. Awesome I hate alcohol markers I'm trying not to use toxic stuff.. I do wish these were refillable. Could we fill them with Winsor and Newton watercolors or India ink?
    Thank you!!

    Now the Chinese have more W&N formulas, these will be released again under Chinese brand names and sent to you for more budget supplies review and promotion.
    The Cotman paints issues again. No IP restrictions in China, only making more profit for them through other people's work. Seems a a shame to me

    The set I received from Blick does not have very bright colors. They are made in China. I am not pleased with the markers. I do not think they are worth the money. I see no reason to ever use these markers. They must have been better in the past.

    Getting rid of better pigments for cheaper ones and nice tins for cheap plastic, using underpaid labor in a country with no environmental regulation instead of workers with rights in France. Way to race to the bottom W&N. I will be skipping these "New' markers :(

    • @starvingartistscollective
      @starvingartistscollective 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I see more brands we know and love quietly having certain products made in China. I wonder why they dont have to disclose the country if origin on product pages. They have to put it on the product but you cant read it when ordering online.
