    Incredible analysis of my favorite season of television. Subscribed.

    I adored season 2 and felt it was more of a classic noir - a tale about corruption, and characters who are so emotionally wrecked to the point where their flaws kill them. Also don't forget about Galveston, Pizzolato's film coming out this year which is based on his first book.

    This video is excellently edited, whoever held the creative reins did a great job. No time is wasted, the original soundtrack was used in the background and they let the truly meaningful scenes play out fully. I've seen a lot of TD videos get halfway through a heavy scene and then cut it short on to another talking point with upbeat royalty free music. It's nice to see a community video hold itself to the standards that the series did, great job.

    Great video however Nietzsche was adamantly against nihilism and warned of the falling into that kind of thinking.

    • @100Mmore
      @100Mmore 6 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      He wanted people to abandon the ideas they've been told and indoctrinated into, and go into a form of 'higher' thinking. He viewed Nihilism as a necessary step into that higher thinking, because at one point in the process, you have to believe in 'nothing.'
      He did say that nihilism isn't the end goal itself, and that a true nihilist would certainly end up committing suicide or go looking for death.

      It was Camus who was so adamantly against nihilism.

    • @nihlus9589
      @nihlus9589 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Not exactly. To him nihilism was a transitional stage meant to strengthen the individual, like having a stronger immune system after overcoming sickness. There is value in deconstruction but once you mature you realize how childish that is and the importance of establishing meaning and order.

    Sir, you have pull part and put together the storylines and charters in such a remarkable way. Linking it back to Gilgamesh *who would have thought an attribution(?)* I think it should be noted that because the 'dynamic duo' is in fact real life best mates(art meets life and versa versa) who really love and respect each other/other's work that I think its bromance and the tension that gave the emotional weight to charters's genuine development on screen. Not to mention, from the get one realizes that one is like David Fincher's like-only this is 8 hrs long - great flim experience at first glance to the great opening titles. There is no weaknesss in the production. One of the great tv series in its genre.

    Aw man, my thoughts exactly. I’ve been planning on rewatching the season 1 and start watching season 2. Especially now since season 3 is coming.
    I hope they won’t try to top season 1 (because might be impossible), instead I hope they focus on making the season great instead. They are doing what Made season heat, by only having one Director and Writer. Makes the story feel more personal and unique. Still haven’t seen season 2 yet, but I’m pretty sure that’s why It didn’t work.
    Great video man. I like the new Name (even though I really liked Shadow Reflex). Keep it up.

      Season 2 did work precisely as a result of what you have described. It capitalized on the true detective formula and created something unique. It represents an evolution in the series. The reason to why many people didn't like it is because they wanted the same thing all over again. On top of that, season 2 is incredibly complex and requires an attention span. You'll probably end up loving it so you should definitely give it a go.

    I disagree with your statements about the villain at the end of the show. While he is a man and while there are no overt supernatural elements to the final conflict this does not subtract from nor dispute the idea of extradimensional/supernatural influence. From what we get of the character in the show, the yellow king isnt really a person, hes an almost infinitely fractured psyche from the horrific trauma that was exacted on him in ritualistic fashion as a child.
    This is to say that with that much trauma, that many different splintered pieces of his mind, hes not really a person anymore. When watching how he talks (constantly switching between voices, characters, and narratives with complete sincerity) he is almost, if not actually possessed by otherworldly metaphysical processes. This can also be seen in his physical characteristics when running from and fighting the detectives. When rust begins to chase him we see him stop and adopt a completely still guise, then, suddenly, as if his body is on strings begin sprinting from 0 to 60 into the jungle surrounding Carcosa. This can also be demonstrated through his otherworldly strength and deadly ability as he nearly kills 2 trained seasoned detectives, both armed, with only a knife and a tomahawk.
    During this chase and fight sequence it is also notable that he no longer flits between different personalities, instead speaking in the slurred, guttural, and beastlike tone that signifies the yellow king is the one speaking. This all is not to say that he is the yellow king in the flesh come to earth, but it is to say that he acts as a direct vessel for the existential and metaphysically evil forces that the yellow king is made of.
    In Lovecraftian and similar narratives (and even in real world occult rituals), it is not unheard of using trauma to impose eldritch or evil forces into someones mind and body for just this purpose. Not to summon a supernatural or metaphysical entity directly into the world, but to instead use a host vessel in the form of a human mind and soul which is sacrificed to it.
    With all this in mind, you cannot view the yellow king as just some redneck. In fact, he is probably one of the scariest villains youll ever see on television if you view him and the ritualistic crimes against the human soul that he is forged from and perpetuates in a metaphysically aware light. He is not just a child rapist, or a murder, he is not just a terrible man. Hes not just a victim of violent and sexualy abusive trauma. He is truly the embodiment of an evil beyond any of our capacities to grasp.
    And the final nail in the coffin? Hes not isolated, and hes not alone. He is a demon that walks among us in human skin, that prays on our children in a deliberate and conscious malevolence. He is the tip of a much deeper and only darkening ice burg, and while this story is fictional, people like him and the cult that created him do exist in our world. If he isnt the embodiment of a truly depraved and consciously evil metaphysical force, what is?

      Great insight on the villain and how he was created. The actor who played him (like pretty much every other actor in the series) nailed the character. He literally makes your skin crawl and is indeed an embodiment of true evil. And you’re 100% right, monsters just like him do walk amount us.
      “I can see your soul at the edges of your eyes. It's corrosive, like acid. You got a demon, little man. And I don't like your face. It makes me wanna do things to it.”

    The question we all ask ourselves at least once is, if we fail, will it all still be worth it, just knowing that we tried. because without that, we really have nothing at all. Giving it all over to a higher power is the very essence of that failure. That's not nihilism. It's looking a world that is stacked against you, right in the eye, and saying fuck you.

  • @Sebadee80

    I like a lot of what you are saying in your video and it’s very entertaining. But I disagree slightly with the psychosphere part, The whole reason for the rituals and murder in the series is to contaminate the psychosphere, contaminate mankind’s subconscious with bad, evil thoughts. It Penetrates into everyone, even Into Rust, Who sits through the final interview drinking beers and smoking cigarettes continuously, aluminium and ashes. It’s the reason why the daughters have the dolls arranged in the ritualistic circle around the naked female doll without them knowing anything about anything like that. Marty barely notices, but I bet Rust would have noticed the significance of it. There’s many more significant scenes that show the effects of the rituals on the psychosphere, if you watch it again with that in mind it will make a lot more sense. Also I just disagree with Rust’s interpretation of time being a flat circle, I like the hermetic version more, where time is expressed as a flat circle but only because it has no beginning and no end, like a circle, and doesn’t stop for a second so how can we truly say it exists? That’s just a characters interpretation though, and it looks like he changes his world view by the end. But without a doubt one of my favourite TV series of all time, with The Wire, The Corner, Lonesome Dove and a select other few. 👍
