Much better solution: (For new cars only)
1. Pay half the price in cash upfront if possible and take 50% on loan (That looks good on your credit score from the banks perspective) so the next time you buy a car on 50% loan … bank will be more in your favor.
2. Now the remaining 50% as loan can be sought as two ways:
- Take loan from a family member at much lower interest rates. say 5-6% rather than 9-11.5% (you will be saving lakhs or rupees)
- Or Take loan form a trusted bank say SBI but ask for schemes in which tax saving can happen. (If you have a CA friend, it will help a lot)
- Or Buy the entire car using SIP planning. (The best possible solution)
For selling:
- Always sell a car up to 4 years. It will provide good resell value. (Considering you also maintain the car, loves savor the driving experience rather than doing a burnout to impress few chicks)
Experience: I sold my family car Mahindra XUV base variant make of 2014 in 2017. Bought at 11 Lpa and sold at 9.5 lpa as new 2017 model was now selling at 13lpa . I increased the value of my car by installing accessories like Mood lights, Music system and alloys at much cheaper rates from local dealers, costed me about 50K, which I deducted from 10lpa. Next all I did was took some pictures from my phone, edited them with filters and all and sold at OLX in just 14 days.

A good and sincere effort as always, but here are a few things I would like to mention.
Some brands don't loose much value in initial 3 years so it makes more sense to buy them new & I don't think any car will loose ONLY 50k after 30 - 35k KM's of driving over a period of 2 - 3 years, it will be much more as now it is a second owner car as well. Only cars which loose lot of value in initial years comply to your logic.

you are right this same video was done by Your Car Angel. But this type of selling scenario of 2 yr old car is rare in Indian market unless car is accidental.
This funda in not valid on luxury cars. But for cars below 15lacs this is 101% true.

A seller would calculate the total buying cost at the end of loan tenure which used to be 12 lakhs for a 10 lakh car, so he asks atleast 6.5 Lakh price for his car.. now we buyer would not be able to convince them.. what do you say?

Bro the method you are explaing, i already did this and within time period of 3 years i already purchased and sold 2 cars and now planning to buy 3rd car ...... this way of purchasing a used car is quite effective but it is not everyone cup of tea.
I owned beat diesel top model LT bought 20k kms at 2.30lac , i ran 11k kms with in 2 years and sold at 1.6lac
Now i owned i20 diesel which i bought last year and now i going to sell it without spending a single penny on it except one service done by me.

Bhai periodic maintenance naam ki cheez bhi hoti h. U should follow periodic schedule of ur car than there is no problems at all. Meri diesel car 5 year mai 1.5 lakhs KM clock kr chuki h koi problm nhi h .

Its a really help full video. Especially for the people who are looking to buy their first car. Mathematically its correct and thats how people should buy a car on budget. Hi Milind...its a nice video...logically calculated....but in my case i drive my i20 sportz 1.4CRDI 2012 model approx 150 km daily...mostly on highway...in that case i drive approx 30000 km in 6 months....if i go by this formula i hv to change my car every 6 months 😋....now i want to change my car as it has crossed 160000km mark...how should i go about it??....

Good Analysis. But I find its very rare to get a 2-3 year old car with 30-40K driven being should at Half of its original buying rate. Considering below 15L cars.
