I'm currently in college studying Spanish for my minor, and I have had three years of Spanish in high school. That being said, I have learned barely anything beyond classroom vocabulary, sports, and introductions, and these would not be very applicable in the real world. My goal is to become fluent in Spanish, and after four years, I still struggle with many things like past tense, comprehensive vocabulary, etc. But your method of breaking it down and dissecting it not by words but by phrases is very helpful and I appreciate that you take the time to make these kinds of videos for us. I watched another one of your videos that said that many schools teach Spanish backwards and that even after three years we still don't know how to chat with someone in Spanish, which is absolutely true! But your method is very sensible, so I greatly appreciate you! Now I know how to really study Spanish!

Love it! That’s a great tip. And it’s not just words but there are many phrases that I need to learn too. Entire words can completely change their meaning when combined with other words so it’s important to learn phrases too. For instance: En cuanto a…..regarding; I am used to….estoy acostumbrado a; I realized….me di cuenta. Love your videos Rocky!!! Thank you so much: got a pocket size journal to start writing this all out!

Thank you for this. I just moved to Puerto Rico and i have been struggling to really learn and remember spanish. Even though i am living here there is so much i dont understand and i feel like im not making progress. In reality, i only understand 3 or 4 words when talking with someone and I havent really had anyone correct me or help me with the language. I find now that i dont do anytjing but go to work and go home because i dont have the vocabulary to communicate or really hold a conversation.

That’s tough! From what I know, Caribbean Spanish is extra hard to learn because the natives talk so fast. But hey: everyone learning anything starts with a blank slate…even the natives in Puerto Rico. They weren’t “born” knowing how to speak Spanish. You got this! As a matter of fact, being exposed to it in Puerto Rico gives you a major advantage over all of us trying to learn Spanish surrounded by only English Speakers. Actually pretty envious of you.

make some friends there, many puerto ricans are bilingual.. they’ll be happy to help you learn.

@@petebowen9031 I have been trying to learn and pay attention. My anxiety though gives me a hard time. In reality i go to work and I go home. So other than like 1 person i work with im not really interacting in spanish. Also I feel really bad asking them to repeat something or to explain something. I think its been my downfall since i have been here because the people i have conversed with think I understand more than i do.

@@music_twentyfive8 ive been trying. I work 6 days a week and for the first time in my life i have discovered that i have severe anxiety. I moved here on my own without knowing anyone, however i did study spanish on my own for like 2 years before coming. I can explain myself a little bit but understanding is my biggest problem. And im in an area where it is kind of difficult to find bilingual people. I say that like i dont work with 3 people that are bilingual. But they always converse with me in english and never really help or correct my Spanish because its so horrible.
