Thanks for video,I'm actually going to attempt this myself when I get this part in. I just bought this 2008 Honda Civic Ex, coupe, manual and well no surprise ebrake handle is busted. Looks like this button will be a problem! Wish me luck 🤞
@@PeterGenovese yes sir! Thank you for the confidence! I've never attempted a diy really but I'm interested lol. Thank you for the support and the awesome how to!
@@PeterGenovese the tabs on mine are broken like your old one so my release button came undone. thought another caliper locked up again from the piston rings being worn. that can make it stick every once and a while especially when its cold
@@GroovyAnthropomorph Yeah, every so often, when it's cold, my rears seem to lock up. I can tell just by when I release the emergency brake and when I feel the e-brake is too "loose", I know it means the brakes are locked. I just engage and disengage it a few times until I feel like there's some effort to pull the e-brake handle back up. That's when I know I'm good.
From Australia - Hello, I went to the wreckers and had to buy the whole assembly complete with cable - cost $66.00 BUT I don't mind because your video now shows me how to fix what I figured would have to be a simple job considering the broken bit is plastic! Thanks sooo much simple and clear! Cheers C
Peter, thanks for the vid. I found the replacement kit on AMAZON and put it on in what I thought was the correct manner, but it never fully clicked. I thought you were nuts for putting on the plastic shell first then inserting the slide/button unit and manhandling it into place. But when mine came loose for the umpteenth time, I did it your way. AND IT WORKED!!!! Thanks!!!
Ok so I just finished doing this to my car and I have a point to bring up in case anyone is worried or getting stuck. The way he is doing it is correct but the last step with the button is tricky unless you figure it out. The last step with the button gets tight and won’t go through because the tooth at the beginning that he was talking about for hooking in the top of the handle piece scrapes on the stalk of the button and keeps it from going in. You just have to put pressure on the button so you scrape through all of the plastic on the stalk of the button and then the button locks on the plastic inside the handle. It’s just a matter of putting pressure until it goes in. Thanks for the video!
Andy, I'm glad you found the video helpful! Also, thanks for the tip about the notch and how one also needs to poke the notch on the OTHER side as well to undo that piece. Since mine was busted, I didn't have to do that.
Thank you for this video!! Unfortunately, I am a pretty typical woman and know absolutelynothing about anything automotive. This video was very straight forward and made the job so simple, that even I could do it! (To me, that speaks volumes!) The video was easy to follow and saved me big bucks from the stealership! Thank you thank you!!
Thanks so much for the video. Very helpful. A couple other things I noticed. I'm thinking the release button is meant to be slid in BEFORE the gray housing is snapped on. I did it that way and didn't have the challenges you had inserting the button afterwards. Also, my gray clip (passenger side) broke exactly as yours did. When it broke, the small broken pieces of the clip fell down into the button release mechanism. I had to take tweezers down there to remove the broken fragments. Probably a good area to inspect before snapping in the new handle/button .
Good video. Couldn't figure out how to get mine off, I was able to complete mine in the same time as your video, just following along and listening. Thanks!
Hey thanks for this video! This really helped me get out of a sticky situation! For some reason, the end of he trigger snapped so I had to remove the hand break handle. For people who dont know, in the video, he used a flat head to poke that notch, but theres an identical one on the other side. For mine I had to poke one side and then again on the other side before it popped out. But nevertheless, great video! Thanks again!
do you know if its the same for the 2013 civic si. it looks exactly the same. Also, did you have to buy the whole parking brake assembly or were you able to find just the handbrake piece.
I'm not sure about 2013 since that's a newer generation than my 2010. If you click on the link in my description of where you can purchase the brake assembly, there's another option for just the cover set/arm.
Is it same for the 2014 Honda civic as well? I couldn't find any video for it. Also, is this exact model hand break compatible with 2014 Civic as well, because currently I can only find 2006-2011 hand break.
So the 2014 model falls under the 9th Generation category (2012 - 2015) and I found a video for that. Hopefully this helps: th-cam.com/video/ez-c5ox5Upw/w-d-xo.html
Thank you SO much! I'm glad that you had trouble putting in the button part because it gave me the courage to persist and get it in. Saved me a ton of money. Now - is there an after market gear shift knob (manual trans) replacement for the '07 civic ex??
Honestly I have no clue how people break these!! I just bought an 08 si and the handbrakes taped up but on my 08 dx its still brand new and ive owned it since 2008
The way these are designed is such that those two little plastic pieces on either end are all that are holding the part in place so as the plastic ages over the years, as well as heat up and get cold many times), the plastic gets more brittle and eventually one day when you grab that thing and yank it up, one of the plastic pieces on either side, breaks. My SI is 14 years old now (purchased brand new in 2010) and I just had to replace this piece for the second time, recently! And I had to refer back to this video 😂
Yeah, you could keep the existing rubber boot, it is the same. But when I bought the replacement, it came with a new rubber boot so why not replace the old one since I had a new fresh one!
***** Donnie, expand the description of the video and you'll find a link that I left to the part where you can see how much it costs for a replacement.
Yeah, that's EXACTLY why I made this video. Their prices are ridiculous and I just go to show you how easy it can be to change it yourself for a few dollars.
