    I make my lye solution with frozen distilled water, I do about half of it with the frozen and half and room temp. My lye only gets to about 130 degrees that way and that really reduces the cooldown time! I also started making them way ahead of time - so I have premade lye already at room temp with enough to make 4 batches of soap. It's helped a lot with time management.

    Hey there! I'm doing a survey on soap makers, and I was wondering if you find it challenging or face safety hazard when using soap making tools like cutters or sharp objects?

    This was another great video! Love the detail you provide and hearing the behind the scenes things that go on. You briefly showed your tracking system (looks like MS Excel or Mac Numbers) Could you make a video about how you keep track of your inventory and seasonal products that need to be made, etc.?

      Thank you so much! I actually use an inventory system now called Inventora. They are linked in all my videos but they are fantastic for smaller scale businesses like mine!

    Another great video Caitlin, I bet in a year your Channel will grow tons just keep at it!
    Question, when you first launch did you start with only one product (I.e. soap) or did you have several? I’m trying to decide what makes sense, I know it won’t be every product I foresee in the future but not sure if a handful would make a launch more effective. Thanks in advance!

    • @caitlinblue

      Thank you SO much Claudia! I'm having fun documenting everything. When I first started I did bar soaps, bath bombs, and soaking salts. I'd say pick at least one product that's your "hero" product that you want people to come to you for. Mine was the bar soaps! then you can fill in other products around it.

    I had a customer order 3 different times, absolutely Loved my products. Placed another $100 order. I sent her a message that if you order that much it has to be treated like a wholesale order. She already bought my deodorant, said she & her daughter loved it. Then ordered $100 more then canceled the order after it was shipped 🙃 🙌

    Is there any way you could add shipping insurance to your cost of shipping? I know many shipping services offer it. I would never ship anything without full payment as well. I read another comment about that happening. It's horrible, just saw your video/channel just now. Love hand crafted soaps, I'm looking forward to viewing your other videos.

    Definitely make that wholesale buyer show you pictures. Any insurance claim on your end will probably ask for that, anyway. I am skeptical about their description of the condition of the products upon arrival. I ship whipped soap frequently and that surprised me. Hope it works out.

      Thanks Jennifer! I got a few photos and there are a few spills but nothing "exploded" I'm still trying to hear back on exactly how many products were damaged. I doubt it was all 54 units!

  • @NORDICbyB
    @NORDICbyB 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I've heard of "exploding" products before, have not done any additional research, but what was said in a video I saw I think 2-3 years ago was pressure and/or temperature fluxuation while shipping airmail. Can't remember if it was because the small containers were to full or had airbubbles/pockets inside. Sorry my english is not the best, hope you understand what I am trying to write ;-)

    • @caitlinblue

    If you use Ice cubes there is NO fumes~! It has really helped me~ Make sure to stir it really well. I make it ahead of time, put the lid on the container, then use it the next day (or sometimes the same day if I use the ice) It's easy to just buy a bag of ice~ and make your lye, then its ready to go in about 20 minutes. You can also do the heat transfer method~ LOADS of stirring the hard oils but it really makes a difference in your fragrance as well ~ HTH
