RAAF Base Darwin

Formed in June 1940, RAAF Base Darwin was very rapidly at the front line of Australia's defences at the outbreak of war in the Pacific. Darwin and its satellite fields housed a multitude of Australian and US units, operating throughout the South-West Pacific.
Today RAAF Darwin is a busy operational base, hosting many exercises each year which includes Exercise Pitch Black, a multi-national exercise which attracts a large number of visiting aircraft and a spectacular for Darwin residents.

114MCRU is one of the few ground based RAAF units with Colours and Battle Honours.

One of our first postings 1971 -1975 hot hot and fantastic. The way the Base came together after Tracey was outstanding everyone kicked in and got it done NO Problems got to see it in 1990 again on a visit hope to get back again stay safe all

BRILLIANT. It's comforting to know we are beefing up our forces in the North. Especially in the current political climate and foreign powers maneuvering in the seas to our north. Caribous and F111s were my favourites and Dakota's and Hercules. We have had a great history in aircraft. I'm proud o be an Australian. Thanks ADF.😉

I went on last flight on caribou from Curtiin air base out from derby Australia and thats when Broome airport was shut during a cyclone and I had to get on a caribou from Broome airport to pearce air force base in Bullsbrook Perth and on a Huey helicopter to t S Anzac at pt peron 1994
