Tori Thomas it was so sweet of Quilt Beginnings to allow me to take home that very expensive part and make a video. Not many shops would do that!

Fantastic demo. Exactly what I was looking for. I now understand the difference between threading for embroidery and normal sewing. Thank you.

Glad I was able to help. When my dealership showed that to me, it all made perfect sense. One other thing I have found out, if you are embroidering a quilt design, which is essentially a straight stitch, you will get better results without threading the bobbin for embroidery. The extra threading step on the bobbin adds additional tension which is great for all those satin stitches, but not needed for straight stitches.

Amelie Scott This is good information. It will be helpful when I do free motion quilting. Thanks again

I love how you explain it all. Super clear and fun with the "extra shiny" and the "valley"

Nice Video!!!! It has to be essential part of the Bernina 830/880 Video series!!! It is clear and concise, and shows the specific structure you have to thread depending if you are sewing/quilting, or you are embroidery. That part is not very easily seen using that dental mirror. I wonder why Bernina doesn't use top loading for the bobbin, thay already use it on the Bernette B70 and B79, so which is the excuse? And none of my other embroidery machines from Brother, Babylock, Janome and Viking use this gizmo, all of the are Top Loading bobbins, and so easy to use!!!!

Great video. I have been really struggling with embroidery on the 830. The real problem I am having is bringing up the bobbin thread when I am attempting Edge to Edge quilting. All my stitch outs are horrible. I will try not threading for embroidery on my next attempt.

Thank you so much for this video. I have never seen this angle of the bobbin assembly of my 880 before and it is such more clear see it this way than through the dental mirror. I know Bernina are known for using metal parts and it was great to see the metal gear cogs in the back. I'm letting all my Bernina 8 Series friends know about your video.

Finally! Someone actually showed this to where I can see what the heck they're talking about. This was so incredibly helpful! Thank you so much!

Incredibly helpful! Thank you so much. I was having issues from not threading through the mat metal valley.

How do you get the hook body out of the machine?

@@theresalepicier157 My quilt store let me borrow the part. I did not take the hook out of my machine. My store showed us the part outside of the machine, so we could better understand how the hook worked.

i have a bernina a vintage 830, i am having an issue with winding bobbin because the clutch refuses to disengage. I can wind a bobbin but the whole motor is running while its doing it, i am not new to sewing but i am new to my 830..can you share any advice ? My needle is moving while bobbin is winding, some have suggested to oil machine or clean dirt but motor looks like new inside and i don't think dirt is the problem here..its going to be more than just cleaning. Cheers.

Love the closeup of the bobbin assembly but it would've been more helpful if the video continued on with a demonstration of the actual threading processes to achieve successful threading for both sewing and embroidery. Many people still have a little difficulty consistently and accurately threading for embroidery even after being shown how to do it at the dealer's store.

Good idea! When I made the video, I did not yet have the machine. (I could not bring it home until I was fully trained as part of the Brand Ambassador agreement.) It would have been difficult to make a video in the store. I will have my baby and cabinet in late January 2015, then I will be able to make lots of videos! I can't wait!
