Iv been working at Home Depot for just a few months. An they dont provide any employee's with training videos to help us gain product knowledge familiarity with the products we sell in our Department. And I leand so much within the first 10min than compared to figuring things out on the floor which is inconvenience both to the customer and employee. Thank you for ur time and effort to educate anyone looking to learn new things

Thoughtfully explained. The differences sound very clear now. It could be noted though that a benefit of dewaxed shellac is that it also dries quickly and makes a great base coat for clear finishes such as polyurethane. Thanks for the detailed analysis!

Can you do several coats of lacquer to build up the clearcoat quickly first then finish of with a layer of spar varnish to add better UV and water protection?

No. You shouldn't put anything on top of lacquer.

After big confusion about wood finishing, my conclusions are:
    - NC Lacquer is dry quickly, suit for commercial application, clear
    - Spar Varnish is suited for outdoor application - very well under UV light and saltwater.
    - Shellac is the least preferable among the three.

Interesting fact about shellac. Lol the food industry uses shellac to coat edibles like candy and other foods that require a smooth shiny coating.
