  • Hike on a fine day up to the splendid Caherconree and Baurtregaum via the incredibly impressive Glacial Derrymore Valley. They are part of the Sliabh Mish Mountains in the South West Corner of Ireland.

    Just found your channel. Love the video Eddie. I’ve climbed Caherconnree few times before and am fascinated by the stories. I like your take on the face in the rocks, it’s a nice addition.
    You’re lucky to get a clear day too. I tried doing a climb at dawn this summer but weather didn’t play ball, another day hopefully.

      Thanks Barry, yeah the stories definitely add a whole different aspect to it, i do enjoy just imagining them. It’s been a rough summer to try and do any planning for sunrise. I suppose all we can do is keep going, which in and of itself is no bad thing 😬🌧️⛰️☀️

    Another fabulous video. Don’t know how I’m only seeing it now! An interesting piece from an Irish Times article about Derrymore Glen - “Some local farmers recently discovered a quern stone here, indicating ancient settlement. It was also the locale for a unique form of habitation during the War of Independence when a local unit of Volunteers commandeered a carriage from the Dingle Railway and, with the aid of two dray horses and, no doubt, much pushing, shoving and swearing, the liberated coach was installed as a temporary barracks.
    The head of the glen is occupied by a series of rock basin lakes, two of which were dammed to provide a continuous flow of water for a 19th century mill down on the coast. “

      Thanks Aida, I saw the same article a while back. The next time I did the walk after reading it I was wondering where that carriage could have been, I couldn’t imagine they would have been able to take it far up at all, the ground from the start is pretty rough. Maybe they did, I’d love to know where. Other than that there isn’t much other info available for that valley that I could find online. It’s a stunning hike, definitely one of my favourites. 😬👍🏻

    You should be employed by the tourist board without a doubt Eddie, the face on the cliff
    is what they are looking for no doubt.!
    Thanks for another excellent and observant video.

      Hi Robert, thanks very much for that. The image I used doesn’t match up exactly with what I see, but it was the closest I could get when I searched for “old Celtic wizard magician” in photoshop 🤣 I think everyone got the idea anyway. 👍🏻

      Thanks Zoe, the top sure was windy that day, and heading up thru that valley was fantastic, wilderness indeed. 👍🏻

    Eddie, another wonderful video. I’m American but my family lives in Derrymore and I visit often. I did this hike on Sept 3rd. I did a few others in the surrounding area that I got from your channel - you’ve been an excellent resource. Thank you

      Hi Patrick, it’s a really great hike alright isn’t it, and so quiet. Glad you’re finding them useful, there’s so many options around the area it’s a great place for you to be based. Thanks, Ed

    A lovely video of your hike Eddie! Such impressive landscape to get a sense of from your video - amazing what the little drone can handle, knowing its limits of course 🙂A nice little take on the face in the mountain...certainly a magical spot!! A beautiful area that I'd like to explore more for sure! 👍

      Thanks Miriam,
      it’s a stunning spot alright with the coast and the mountains all around. You can probably tell I’m a bit obsessed with the place. 😬 It’s nice to be able to get the drone up as the wind usually decides it’s not happening.
      Presume it’s a long haul for ye to get down here, I’m very lucky in the sense I’m relatively close enough. 😀⛰️🥾

    Another great video Eddie. Those mavic mini 3's are impressive in the wind. Mine does well in high altitude and wind in Colorado. Well done

    • @eddieforde
      @eddieforde  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks very much Mike. There’s always the fear with the drone that it’ll end up half way down a slope resulting in a few hours recovery, hasn’t happened so far at least, and hopefully it won’t 🤞🏻
      And Colorado, that’s a whole other level of elevation and I’d imagine wind also, so if it does well there then fair play. 👍🏻⛰️

    Eddie, a beautiful walk up the valley alongside the river, loved that changing light☀👍 You are inspiring me yet again to return to the area. Looks like it would be a brilliant place to camp at the lough👍 'Fairly impressive' might be underselling the views slightly😊 Have you ever went up/came down Curraheen?

    • @eddieforde
      @eddieforde  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      hi Gerry, got lucky with the weather alright, its a smashing valley to go up.
      I think the only "issue" about camping at the lough would be , as the valley runs north, you could be in shade for a while without sunset/sunrise, I had been half thinking of doing it this time, but obviously ended up not doing that.
      Was lucky enough to spend a night on top of Caherconree last year and got fantastic inversion, it's an earlier video. The fort itself would be another option.
      I've done the full ridge around Curraheen but haven't come up the valley floor itself... yet... that's on the list to be done, hopefully sometime soon.

    A place that exists in my dreams and nightmares at the same time. I think you were on Baurtregaum Far North East Top, if it wasn't that, it was Baurtregaum something else...😂😂😂

    • @eddieforde
      @eddieforde  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yea, 4 peaks with Baurtregaum in the name!!!, although I see East West maps have Curragheen mountain for the Far NE Top. I suppose the name is lost for the one you mention there, a pity. Thanks again Joe. 👍🏻
