This was an almost perfect video. Your instruction is on point. We, in California call this style of punching, Floatining Punches. You should warn people that, if they are beginners, they need to understand that rhythm, timing, and distance play a huge role in this. If you throw these punches without these principles, it is very common to roll or break a wrist. The only thing I have to add is that you broke the kinetic chain when you didn't rotate your back knee on the hooks. Being a young man, you can get away with this for a few years, but by not rotating your rear ankle to align your knee with your elbow, you've actually broken the kinetic chain and will in the future have knee pain or injuries. This becomes more evident when you might have to deal with a kicker or grappler. Other than that, I have signed on with you and think your editors add-on at the end is brilliant. Keep it up new friend. Come visit us in San Diego, California.
Thank you for the feedback! Me and my team will go away and analyse this in more detail. Great to connect, yes we plan to visit the states in the future so will look forward to visiting you in San Diego 😁 talk more in Skool
Wow, I'm definitely gonna stop looking at canelos training. Now i know why my knees hurt. To be fair, it does seem like you get more power by keeping the foot planted. Thank you for this knowledge, fellas.
This guy is the best "explainer" of boxing I've ever found. Crazy he's such a young dude. Love how he keeps it real about waiting til the end for ad revenue lol
The most honest man at the start of a TH-cam video about ad rev. Good man. How you explain this is brilliant. Keep the content up. I'll be subscribed and watching 💪
Thats very interesting. Especially the cross part. It reminded me so much when I watched tons of baseball throw slow motions over and over. That whipping power
I love the emphasis on flow. Not just in this video but your every day practice (shadowboxing, sparring, bag work). Really helpful and excellent breakdowns.
Sometime I try to just relax the arms and shoulder completely, kind of think of them as sinking down and loose, then I imagine the force coming from my turning hip and straight up through my elbow, and forget about the shoulder all together to keep it as relaxed as possible as there should be no "push". Gives a well old crack.
power and speed in my punches clicked into place when I reverse engineered the motion and my thinking process is one of not throwing the punch forward but rather im trying to snap my (non striking arm side) elbow and shoulder back as quickly as possible and this motion has the effect of snapping my strike fwd, relaxed, non telegraphing and with loads of body weight power. the opposing arm snaps back resulting in your striking arm exploding forward. the transfer of bodyweight into the strike, spinal rotation and footwork just fall into place, without thinking about it. now I dont even think about it all. i just keep my shoulders relaxed and explode from point zero
I love your in depth and precise coaching techniques. Many years of little bad habits soon to be erased thanks to you and your fantastic videos. I wish you all the best inside and out of the ring. Many thanks from this ol sport in New Zealand.
Phenomenal video! I teach this exactly how you do! It took me so many years of my old coaches telling me to loosen up and relax to finally understanding it. I realized how tight and stiff I was after someone finally recorded me. Breaking it down into small details like you do here is the key to helping fighters understand. Well done.
theres no one right way to box but i would like to challenge the idea of this video because Im a firm beleiver in the jab coming from the hand not the arm at all. Michael jai white did an explanation about it. Im a diehard lover of the flicker jab technique and it helped me stay looser, connect more accurately and move faster by taking excess movements away. he breaks down how most boxers are taught to punch and why its inefficient.
Glad u joined it all together at the end, i heard a cross analogy that was good also, imagine your back foot is stubbing out a cigarette and that torque travels up thru your body and out thru your fist.
I would add that you need to have your fist locked in relation to the wrist If you squeeze the fist tightly it becomes like a rock at the end of the whip, and prevents what is happening in this video -- a limp wrist and crooked fist at the end of the kinetic chain. This weakens the punch and also risks breaking your hand. Clench that fist as you throw the punch for extra offense and injury prevention.
It seems like I’ve noticed this quite clearly in a lot of Muhammad Ali‘s matches. It would be very fitting to say “He seems to just effortlessly flick those punches out.”
Would love this Community’s insight about Body Shots-should you throw body shots more in a hooking/sweeping motion or a stabbing/semi-uppercut/straight motion? Love this channel and keep’em coming
Stabbing uppercut motion for inside the elbows and hooking sweeping motion for outside the elbows. Depends on the placement of opponents elbows and the area you want to exploit.
Ones I did this I hear the sound of the punch in the air ☄️ I don't want this video to be seen this is a life changing advise 😂😂 but you deserve all the money brother ❤😊❤😊 edit: don't worry I press the like bottom 😅
Wow, your last point is honestly phenomenal it may seem like nothing to beginners or those that haven’t had any experience throwing punches but it does make a massive difference in generating power and flowing through different punches properly, unless I’m forgetting I don’t know of anyone off the top of my head on TH-cam that has specifically pointed that out before if I’m honest but it is so important. Good video and def seem like any beginner boxer is in good hands watching this Chanel if all you’re videos are as well informative as this one.
Haha this is awesome man and actually such amazing advice I’ve never thought of but it’s the reason why I have those good punching days without knowing why
Nice video Practiced using the biston drills and noticed more range and it was unpredictable. But how do you handle the elbow pain? I think that I am over extending my arm If there was another video on that, I'd really appreciate it ❤
How do you not hurt your shoulders when punching? I have a habit of, for years, leaning my shoulders out forward (using computer, etc). Actually managed to pop my shoulder out of it's socket while struggling to put on a shirt the other day - it was a pretty morbid feeling - now I'm worried about that when fighting. I have torn my shoulder while throwing a hook at someone before too. Great instructional video - thanks!
Hey, thanks for the video. What are your thoughts on 'emptying the cup' on the hook. In other words, turning the wrist all the way over as if empting a cup, allowing a sort of corkscrew wave effect? I think i see your hand ending knuckles up; what about a full rotation? Knuckles ending up at 90 degrees...
lol the end
it wasn't that funny bro

Wish him all the best with his fighting in the meantime, but he'll definitely have a career in coaching too if he wants.
This is definitely the best boxing knowledge channel on TH-cam just like Tony Jeffries!
I wouldn't compare him to Tony. Tony is more marketing/basic based.
Great tutorial. Exactly why so many knockout punches don't look like they are thrown "hard."
Been boxing just for fitness off and on for 10yrs and learnt more in first min than last 6 months

Exactly 💯 growing up we didn't need to be taught it just was natural 70's baby
Another good analogy of a punch mechanics is a metal ball on a chain
Sometime I try to just relax the arms and shoulder completely, kind of think of them as sinking down and loose, then I imagine the force coming from my turning hip and straight up through my elbow, and forget about the shoulder all together to keep it as relaxed as possible as there should be no "push". Some analogies just click with people straight away. The ball and chain for the jab is the one that got my jab good
Brilliant, instantaneous changed how ı think about my punches and my application
This is the best explanation ever. You are incredible coach 👏👏👏👏
Once again you are excellent. Keep it coming. Your delivery of information, instruction, and comprehension is beyond excellent.

Best video I have seen on kinetic chain, breaking down the concept of in such a digestible format.
I would add that you need to have your fist locked in relation to the wrist

These pointers are so good. Many thanks!
Excellent explanation and demonstration of the biomechanics. Good work!
Sure, something like that pop locking, don't forget to get some breakdancing skills also. Good job with explaining snap punching.
Someone give this king a crown
the analogies are great but the best way to perfect the snap of your jab is to think with speed and practice! get them reps in till it feels normal.
Good way to explain boxing...go on making such great videos!🙏

Great tips! Thanks mate : )
Very good, thanks!
But isnt using the shoulder like that gonna telegraph your jab? 🤔
No because it should all be one motion
To add to the other comment. You should be moving your body. It's part of the body movement
Also you should go straight down the middle like Michael jai whites demo with kimbo Slice
Solid on the information 🥊🥊
How can you be giving all this knowledge for free? Thank you brother
