I miss him so much. I could read Culture Novels until the heat death of the universe.

Out of all the possible futures in science fiction, Iain M Banks Culture is the one I most want to happen….

Regardless of genre, I consider player of games one of the best books I have ever read, brutal, funny, exhilarating. I had genuine grief on learning of Banks' passing.

The legendary Iain M Banks, reading from my favourite book of his. You're sadly missed but never forgotten. A hole, so wide has been made in my reading, especially sci-fi since your passing. I hope to see you in "The Culture," whenever I go to the other side 👍🏾😎

I'm in the middle of writing my first book. It's Iain who sits at my shoulder, encouraging me, saying "believe when no one else does. If this is what you were meant to do, don't let life pass you by without ever finding out."

      how did it go ?

@@michaelburman2108 It continues to go well. One year on and I'd say I'm about 30-40% thru. I've made a lot of mistakes and have been doing a lot of rewriting, as I'm literally learning on the job. Working title is "Gods of Helvetios" and it remains the single biggest goal in my life. ps. Thanks for asking!

It's not so much about IF you finally succeed. Odds are you will not, however you are pushing yourself forward, growing, and trying to do more than you currently are able to do. I have had some books banging around in my head trying to get out into the real world for over a decade, but I have not given them the energy to make it happen. Best of luck on your journey.

How are you getting on, Bruce? I'd love to read the results of somebody influenced by Mr. Banks.

@@Chipchap-xu6pk Extremely well. I have a completed draft of volume one, and am now going through a final re-editing process to get the quality as high as I possibly can. The first volume is called Xicadian Cycle, and honestly I feel very proud of it and believe I'm going to succeed. I also feel compelled to mention that I have lived through a very dramatic turn of events, as I was diagnosed with advanced glaucoma, and came very close to losing my eyesight completely. Although I am permanently visually impaired, I have kept my sight sufficiently enough to be able to continue to write, and I will not squander the opportunity I have been given. If you are interested I have written a couple of short stories which I have posted to my TH-cam channel, called The Midnight Sundial, and The Crystal Bowl respectively, which describe in messed up parable form, the journey I have taken relating to the loss of my eyesight. Thanks a lot for asking.

Iain Banks is the reason so many of the major advances of today are occurring. His vision of The Culture has driven people to build spaceships and design new AI models and to push for a greener world. His ideas have literally changed the future of humanity. RIP Iain. One of my biggest regrets was living so close to you and never taking the time to meet you in person. I always thought I'd go to the next book signing or talk, until one day there were no more book signings or talks. :(
