- Manny Pacquiao vs. Miguel Cotto, billed as Firepower, was a boxing match for the WBO welterweight championship. The bout was held on November 14, 2009, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States. Pacquiao won the fight via technical knockout in the twelfth round.
I’ve watched this fight a number of times and it showcases Manny’s greatness. This was his 7th title and he won it convincingly against a top notch opponent. Cotto was a skilled fighter who came to fight. On his way up through the weight divisions, Manny fought the best. We will likely never see a fighter like Manny Pacquaio. History will show he’s among the greatest men who ever fought.
Pacquiao in the interview said that Cotto had hurt him but he didn't do anything so he said something was wrong with Cotto

I have seen almost all of Manny Pacquiao's fights since he started in the bantamweight division. He is an incredible boxer/fighter. Pound for pound I believe he is the greatest of all time...a world champion in 8 different weight divisions...No won has ever come close and probably never will. He is a classy humanaterrian and takes care of his people.
What's more impressive is he was a 5 time lineal champion. Closest thing is ali with 2.

Pacquiao did some extraordinary things in the 3rd and 4th rounds especially. You've never seen a fighter circle his opponent, punching with both hands all the while, then reverse and circled the other direction. That's not boxing 101, it's the skill set of a unique, very talented fighter. Didn't Pacquiao look completely relaxed and in control? He turned it up at will, dominating a great fighter, doing whatever he wanted in there. This was one of the greatest performances in boxing history in my opinion.

Manny is a real gentleman, his behavior in and out of the ring is the same, respectful--very rare in this sport. He punished those who are disrespectful, though. Margarito & Rios are a great example of that.

This was not prime Cotto. Prime Cotto was when he fought Margarito. Margarito KO'd a prime and undefeated Cotto, and Cotto was never really the same again. Also, Manny forced Cotto to make a catchweight of 145-lbs rather than fighting him at the normal 147-lbs of the division. Why? It's because Manny is always looking for the advantage.

Cotto fought an excellent fight. It's just that Manny has that crazy power in his left hand, and that was ultimately the difference. With that being said, these are two of the greatest to ever fight in the lighter divisions. It doesn't get much better than this in the sport of boxing. I wish we had more fights where champions put their title on the line against the absolute best opposition. A lot of fighters in today's boxing have no balls, and are too busy flashing their alphabet belts instead of worrying about their legacies. Cotto could have probably ran from Manny like Floyd did for years, but he embraced the challenge, even though it ended his reign as a champion.

Well, had Margarito "Loaded-Wraps" Flores hadn't cheated, Miguel Cotto would have beaten Manny Pacquiao or the Puerto Rican would have never been TKO'd. Miguel Cotto was extremely diminished after the fight against Margarito Flores. Cotto's dedication and discipline to the sport of boxing allowed him to continue after being brutally hurt by the Plaster of Paris in Flores' hand-wraps. For those who don't know, Plaster of Paris is a quick-setting fine white powder (calcium sulfate hemihydrate), which hardens when moistened and allowed to dry.

Cotto was dehydrated that 145 catch weight make a big difference. They should the fought on 147 that two pounds below 147 kills Cotto. Come on this doesn’t make sense Cotto is way stronger than Marquez, Bradley and Rios and Pac didn’t stop them. If Delahoya did not quit Pacquiao would not stop him either. The only legit winning stoppage by Pac in the welterweight is Ricky Hatton and he have a glass chin even Mayweather stop him.

I was only 5 years old when my father and I watched this fight in cable from his workplace were pacquaio and cotto made a tremendous fight in 2009 and we're like boxing commentator because of our loudness cheer to the fight after that we've seen ourselves satisfied and amazed, 6 years passed that time I was 11 then there's a free fight in our tv still that fight, while I'm watching suddenly my father said do you still remember that fight where we watched it together from my workplace? And I look at my father in the eye and said it on my mind Yes, I still remember that gold old days, how can I forget that one?.. I miss my father a lot and our moments.

Commentators were biased in rounds 1-3, because they don't see the punches of pacquiao hitting cotto so fast and hard.
Every time I watch this fight I laugh at how badly the announcers wanted Cotto to win 🤦🏻♂️. Just look at Cotto’s face after 6 rounds

I grew up watching every fight of Pacquiao and as I fully understand every fight he have to overcome lots of adversity to climb way up to his 8th division championship belt. its not easy its not easy.. not only he is fighting for himself but for the whole country. my GOAT no doubt.
I remember seeing this fight in 2009 in a mexican bar, everyone was cheering for pacman, it was sooo loud, wow it brings back memories. I haven't seen boxing fight since 2013 on regular basis but this was fun to watch again.
