Would love to see an expansion on this. Like a guide on how to set up that reader, what to do, what not to do etc. The projects on the website (and all the help you can get from the Discord server) works a treat and has helped me more than enough, but videos have a way of keeping you engrossed in a complex subject.
I hope you take this the best way possible. I like Collin's Lab because he reminds me of Alton Brown. His approach to electronics is very educational and expressive in a calm, teaching manner.
"Yes, in fact, I can confirm that this... IS a LAMP." Epic. Using local area radio waves to confirm that items are what they are. The world will never be the same. Every grocery store should have this. Every item in my room needs this. THINK OF ALL THE THINGS WE CAN CONFIRM ARE THINGS. (On a serious note though, I want everything I own to have this - you could find your stuff in the couch. How epic would that be?)
Another great video Collin! But I think that the volume for the music was higher than your voice from the middle of the video through the end. Did anyone else notice this?
how do it purchase the exact reader you show in this video and also the programing app and equipment to code a tag? I have a couple of projects I would like to try
Can u read multiple tags at once say 900 plus tags non stop. So if a tag disappeared it would denote somewhere in a reduction of that specific rfid tag. ??
Done anyone know where you can buy RFID/NFC tags like the first example he showed in the video at 0:28? I want to make some custom ones but typically all you find are ones embedded in stuff and are too small to solder wire to them.
+Rainbow Hyphen Your feedback is a cause of feedback because of feedback. You might want to consider the loops made with aerials as large a CERN. Then someone could come along and draw your attention to stuff larger than Australia: forums.theregister.co.uk/forum/1/2016/03/19/I_Aproveofitspendingonspecificprojects_BoM/?post_received=1 But that would be shameless behaviour.
NFC requires a distance of 10-50 cm, whereas RFID can have a larger range. NFC is also meant for data transfer; RFID is more useful as an identifier (so you can find your keys instead of making a purchase at a register.)
I'm starting a project where RFID tags will be logged so people can sign in and out of a room, and later I can see who was there, when, and for how long. I'm having trouble finding a method of reading serial data through a USB. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
this looks like Passive RFID technology could be used as a foundation for Wireless Power. I wonder if people are researching this avenue of technology for that purpose??
Just about every smart phone on the market has wireless charging, along with some electric cars, powered toothbrushes, and other things. Wireless power is nothing new.
Kevo F . I know that Tesla invented It long ago, and the devices that you mentioned use wireless power, but I am talking about utilizing wireless power to send and receive power so like a WiFi router, a giant tower can send power wirelessly to your house and everything in your house can be powered by it.
good point, but you can keep it in the same frequency that they already use to broadcast radio that we listen to in our cars. I'm pretty sure that with some research and time it could be done
Using a giant coil to transmit power to everyone in a particular area has a number of problems. Some of the problems are physical limitations (tesla never demonstrated widespread wireless energy distribution), others are social or political. However, it's being worked on.
I was thinking of broadcasting the RF waves which would then be converted to power like the Ardunio sending the RF waves to the coil and then the coil converts the RF waves to power
World Known , a veterinarian could do that for you. It only costs €$5 for the chip (& €$15 to register your cat/dog/pet/you on a database should the animal/you go missing.)

Does anyone know what software is used to make these videos? I.e. at th-cam.com/video/VpEVkiMU18s/w-d-xo.htmlm11s ? I'd like to know for my project. Thank you.
***** They don't make bad door keys. If someone gets close enough to you with a reader, they could have snapped a pic of your key and duplicated it anyway. You can always keep it in a shielded sleeve.
Falcrist the good old magnetic strip is much more secure... Need to swipe it to clone. Same with the smart card. My uni has just switched from Magnetic to RFID for doors and there have already been security issues
This is the good kind of advertisement we all need. Please don't stop.
So glad 'Collin's Lab' is back. Did not know how RFID's were powered. Thank you.
I missed him
Cookies or not, need more Collins Lab videos.

More videos Collin! Go Go Go!
Love collin's videos almost as much as I love lamp. Keep them coming!
I hope you take this the best way possible. I like Collin's Lab because he reminds me of Alton Brown. His approach to electronics is very educational and expressive in a calm, teaching manner.
I'm glad Collin's back! I loved his show on the Make channel. Cheers for Collin!
All the comments are raving about Collin. Hope he's well! Loved this video and will have to go find more of Collins Lab!
I subscribed for Collin's Lab! These are hilarious, wonderfully written and informative!
Informative! Keep up these great quality videos guys!
These videos are pure gold. Very entertaining
Great. Keep em coming
Love your videos Collin, by far the best for into to electronics!

Love Collin's synth sound creations.
It's like early Kraftwerk.👍
more videos containing lamps!!!!!!!
You love lamp, I take it?
Dan Smith I love lamp
Lamp is wicked cool
Cookies are wicked cool as well.
Another great video Collin! But I think that the volume for the music was higher than your voice from the middle of the video through the end. Did anyone else notice this?
Love your stuff, Collin!
Love the video! Yes...more on RFIDing cookies!
Thanks Collin. Great video.
Great video Collin, it gives me a lot of ideas for new projects. Cheers! 🍺
This video is just plain AWESOME!
Science, please produce more Collin stuff.
More Colin!
how do it purchase the exact reader you show in this video and also the programing app and equipment to code a tag? I have a couple of projects I would like to try
Chris Breeling Check out the link in the description, it has more info on the Adafruit RFID/NFC Arduino shield, etc.
Can u read multiple tags at once say 900 plus tags non stop. So if a tag disappeared it would denote somewhere in a reduction of that specific rfid tag. ??
Like ya cut G!
Collin! I seen your videos on make but i wondered what happened to you, but why did you mode to adafruit?
Man, cool camera and good vid.
may I know how to program theRFID shield with the LCD shield that you have shown?
Done anyone know where you can buy RFID/NFC tags like the first example he showed in the video at 0:28? I want to make some custom ones but typically all you find are ones embedded in stuff and are too small to solder wire to them.
www.adafruit.com/products/361
I love collin's videos but this time i feel myself wanting more.... like an experiment... like previous videos..., nice editing tho, as always
May I know what is the codes for programming RFID and LCD that you use? :) thankyou
Doesn't the passive tags, how power is beamed to them, isn't that the same principle as Theramin's device that spied on an American Ambassador?
What software do you use to rewrite the data, Collin san?
just arduino code editor.
Great videos!!!
What is the maximum range of the RFID tag? Can its transmission range be extended to say, 10 ft?

You could make more Collin's lab with the readers!
whats more impressive than the rfid are Collins mutton chop - sideburns, their epic!
very informative
What does nfc do differently?
Nothing.
Near Field Communication. Is the tecnology that able communication by wireless, a protocol to be more specific.
NFC requires a distance of 10-50 cm, whereas RFID can have a larger range. NFC is also meant for data transfer; RFID is more useful as an identifier (so you can find your keys instead of making a purchase at a register.)
Thanky you!
I love his face reactions😊
what the code please
nice videos sir.
Thais is just great . Thanks

haha use Google Chrome. I have been wanting to for a while now, I just haven't gotten around to it. Then it could sync automatically to drive.
AKSoapy29 Unfortunately, Google Chrome isn't available on all the platforms I would like compatibility with.
Haha at 1:02 me and Collin said "slick" at the same time
Does this guy have his own channel?
Strider-Ragnarok yes.
i missed Collin's lab :)
i think its cool you used ohios ex-pass and not illinois i-pass or any of the other few states' versions.
I wrote the tags... I'm from Massachusetts.
At all the tags he like what the hell am i reading. HAHA

Very nice and good explained Video (+Fun :)),
btw i do Write Tags, also started with Raspberry Pi :D,
keep going man ure great !
The question is, what gain would one have not just from a cookie but, say, eating a big cookie. I'm amped about the answer.
No tools were harmed in the filming of this video.
I love lamp
What does Collin's joke about cookies in the end ?
Rexus King you dont know websites???
I want one in my skin to use to lock and unlock my house and car.
Let's face it, that's the future anyways.
World Known you can easily do it yourself

This is a million dollar look -- and the video ain't bad either.
Reverse engineered from alien technology. Really neat stuff though
As we all know, the S in RFID stands for Security
One cool cat!

Richard Nguyen its just arduino code editor
...I lost it at 'cookies'.
Cookies.
Isn't RFID extremely insecure?
Yup they can be cloned and used for malicious intent if they said RFID belongs to something important
It is only ever meant to be a label for an object. It's about as secure as a bar code... which is to say: Not at all.
Hence their use as door keys is a convenience and absolutely terrible security... Which is why their increasing presence in bank cards is worrying
***** They don't make bad door keys. If someone gets close enough to you with a reader, they could have snapped a pic of your key and duplicated it anyway.

Crazy facial expressions
cookies :3
Sorry Colin...but what is your hair doing?
It's receding.
Witchcraft, I tells ya!
*L A M P*
LAMP
:)
so rfid is useful but kinda boring.
Are RFID tags edible? If so, you could make cookies!
