  • Peter Brown, Leading contemporary figurative artist talks painting, the art of working outside and the role of representational art.
Peter is no stranger to working in the public gaze and here talks for the first time about the reasons why this has become part of his practice and how stitched this is to his admiration of those painters of the before him who set up their easel outside of the studio.

There is an enormous amount of "integrity" painting from life, alla prima, especially in nature! Always great to see Peter Brown at work.

I wonder how lanscape artists manage to keep the shadows consistent, considering the changing light situations.

The same way we draw perspective. Once you decide on a fixed point for the light, it's just perspective drawing.

@@bowlock9901 I'm sorry, I was talking about the shadows moving due to earth rotation. If you spend 1 or 2 hours painting, your shadows will be longer than when you began.

How does he paint in the middle of a city and get left alone?. When I've tried it I attract kids, drunks, chatterboxes the lot.
