    Khanysia is getting so big. She is getting better at forging all the time. Kumbura loves Khanysia so much that she stops eating to keep an eye on the youngest member of this herd. Now that's love in it's highest form. Thank you Adine for the extra long video today. I loved it. ❤❤🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘❤❤

    I noticed that sometimes Khanysia plays with her food. I’m sure you’ve noticed this too. She looks like she’s putting something in her mouth, but she doesn’t. Instead she plays with trunk … so cute. I love the way the elephants look out for one another. They are so caring, so aware of other’s feelings.and willing to come right over and help. Mambo looked like he was trying to show you what he was eating. He is adorable and looked so happy to greet you. What beautiful animals. Humans could learn a lot from them. They are an inspiration.

    When I look at the scars left by the snare and the hideous monsters who would put her in that position and just leave her to die a horrible death, my heart just breaks again ... yes, I know she's growing up now in a safe and loving environment but when I see those scars it breaks my heart that there are vicious men who would do that to her which makes it all the more beautiful when ppl like those who are her healers and carers spend their lives loving her and caring for her the way they do! God bless you all and may God give you special lives and the best things in life bc you do what you do. TYVM!

    Well the Carers are so protective of Adine . Mambo really wanted someone to give him a treat. When I see how the sun has changed khanysia skin color, when I see how she is strengthing her trunk while browsing, when I see how independent she is becoming, when I see her closeness to the other Herd elephants, I realize how important it is that she is in the bush with her Herd.
    To see them all in the wild thrills my heart, to see them in their natural environment without threats of harm by human hands is just beyond the beyond. I am just so Happy for them. Shalom

    Good evening Carer and Adine I watch the video I can see for hours Khanysia eating of the leaves. Limpopo come on the corner (three) eat also leaves Kumbura learn Khanyisa eating leaves. Kumbura what a great elephant. Fantastic it is so relax to see. So real I have never seen video so wonderful like Herd-Hoedsproet videos. We learn also a lot of the elephants. So Funny Khanyisa with trunk round and round to eat the grass I think I do it the same with a vork spaghetti round and round. and eat.Haha. Lovely. I am glad to see it on big screen on my laptop. Like a movie.
    Mambu visit very nice to see how he eats. Fantastic mouth with trunk.

    Peaceful moments while the ellies, including ‘our’ growing meisiekind, are foraging. Didn’t know about this Green Thorn tree; have read from thorn trees of other species (Acacia). Thanks for all we are learning. Incredible how ellies, giraffes manage to get the fruits w/out hurting their eyes (do they close them when they see the leaves they want?). Khanyisa worries me about it but it’s instinctive, I’m guessing. Limpopo caught me by surprise w/her teen attitude 😉. Trunk over her head, stiff tail, big ears showing. Was it bc she couldn’t do what she wanted? Getting closer to Nadine? Each day is literally a new ‘adventure’! ♥️🐘🐘♥️

I have come to enjoy these videos so much that I believe they are exactly like therapy for the soul! Thank you Adine for making these glimpses into your world so precious even though there is the reason they are here in the first place but doesn't that just say something about the elephant spirit.......strong, courageous and defiant against those that would harm them. Is KUMBURA that much larger than LIMPOPO! LIMPOPO, as Matriarch TOKWE'S daughter must be of high status. Still, unless perspective is involved, KUMBURA is striking. Of course, she'll remain nameless as to who's at the pinnacle of this Herd. And 14:15 you see KUMBURA has a perfect 'face'. Beautifully feminine. Her front legs are a bit akimbo, but an almost aquiline portrait. Certainly , no one knows what ELEPHANT sees when they are face-to-face, which strikes me as uncommon. But KUMBURA'S a Botticelli.

    The elephants seem to have to work hard for little amount of tree or grass, so that is why they have to eat thru the night to get enough to fill their bodies I see that now after watching this video.

    Kumbura and Limpopo are often together in Khanyisa guard.
    I wonder do they consider each others as sisters. When Tokwe adobted Kumbura, (edit:) Limpopo was still a baby, she's about 3 years older than Kumbura and Pisa (the other Tokwe's daughter).

    So many scratches! Limpopo has really long scratches. Does that hurt?

    do you run out of natural food sources on your land?? or is there always a food supply......??

    • @herdelephantorphanage
      @herdelephantorphanage  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you for the question, Cassandra! There is always food available - the elephants are designed to digest rough foliage in winter when it is dry, which you can read more about here: herd.org.za/it-takes-guts-to-raise-a-baby-elephant-elephant-digestion/
      We do, however, supplement the herd's diet when they come in for the night. 💚

    It seems like the green thorn bush would be too prickly for the elephants & would poke them in the mouth.

    I enjoy hearing Information about all of the heard especially how each elephant has an important position in the heard. Would like to learn more about the carers jobs in the bush. How many carers to how many elephants. What types of danger are they watching for how do they keep group together. What is their primary job in the bush. Thank you 🙏😊❤️🐘❤️😊🍰👍🇺🇸🙏

    I think it's about time that Limpopo and Klaserie should get their 1st baby. How could that be arranged? Does the herd need to be divided to have new babies?

    • @jaycuzman625
      @jaycuzman625 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They don't want the herd to get larger. The females wouldn't go to another Herd, or form one of their own, they'd stay with Herd.
      Adine thinks the young bulls may as they mature, leave the Herd and go searching for female herds. Their on birth control for another reason....I'd and when they need to be ready for another baby or elephant rescue due to poaching/hunting. The nursery vis for that purpose.

    • @Aurinkohirvi
      @Aurinkohirvi 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jaycuzman625 I know, that's the problem they have, Adine has spoken about it, that they couldn't let the herd just grow because of the area has limits how many elephants can live there. And what I understood from Adine, it's either the gov of the national park or the gov of South Africa that sets the limits.
      Adine also has spoken about the possibilty to divide the herd. Does it include only letting Mambo and Zindoga go their merry way, I don't know.

    Khanysia looks to be grazing the trees for food just like the big girls, but poor little one still has a weak trunk. And so she is mimicking the others, but it is obvious not able to eat enough, other than a leaf or two. She is still receiving a few bottles of milk from the carers as she weens. We all love watching her progress with the love and support received from all there at Herd.
