It’s never mentioned in the anime but the reason Mard Geer and the CSK know each other is because Zeref is the one who made the 12 golden keys. As we learned in the GMG arc Eclipse is a door that Zeref built and it uses his magic and Celestial Magic to operate. That right there was an indication that Zeref has ties to the Celestial Wizards. The Zodiac Keyes had been around for centuries but they originally weren’t golden and broke after 1 use due to their power and inferior material they were made from. The Celestial Wizards approached Zeref and he made the 12 golden Zodiac keys from the core of a star that fell to earth centuries earlier and that’s how the 12 Zodiac keys were made. Zeref then gave the keys to the Celestial Wizards.
Not only is Aquarius Lucy's first childhood friend, she's also one of the last emotional connections to her mother. For Lucy, sacrificing Aquarius means sacrificing a part of what remains of her mother.

Aqua is basically Godmother or big sister of Lucy. But also her sacrifice was out of pure love for Lucy, she knew that Lucy was always alone and she doesn't want her to suffer anymore especially since she got no family anymore! Also, she knew how kind Lucy is, so she won't be able to break any key, so she sacrificed herself for Lucy's sake.
Holy sh*t I never realized that. I just wanted the arc to end so I could get the main story again but that does make the filler arc less crap. Natsu vs Leo wasn’t bad though.
Not really she got captured (again) and she’s never done Urano Metoria without a boost and Jackel is one of the weakest of the Nine (second lowest only to Keyes)
When she was crying while the entire castle was crumbling. Idk.. but it gave me chills even among all those crying. Sacrificing one friend to save others. She went through some real hell.

This episode is always on the TOP 5 Saddest moment of Fairytail. And guess what, most of those moments involves Lucy. But losing Aquarius is the biggest blow on her. Aquarius is like a nagging (not evil) stepmother to her. The fact that Aquarius admitted she'll miss Lucy and that she indirectly said she loved her for all the things she have done for her, makes this parting more sad. Cause you'll know this isn't really one sided love. They both treasured each other on another level more than most of her spirits.
Also the fact that aquarius was so close with her mother and the last thing she had passed down to Lucy really hurt, since you feel the pain of Lucy not only losing her first and bestfriend and basically fill in mother but also the last "physical" (if thats the word to use here) connection felt towards her real mother as well as last family member, so she probably felt so alone for a bit after.
The Tartaros arc is so good. This was the first time when Lucy truly felt powerful, to me. And she knocked it out of the park to save the whole guild. I kinda miss Aquarius, but when a celestial spirit's key is destroyed, a new key is formed somewhere in the world. Lucy would just have to go find her new key.
it is so easy to forget that lucy is technically the main protagonist of the show with the large roster of characters. she always gets great scenes like this even if she's not the strongest and beating the main baddies, tho she has come so far since the first episode.

Hold on, there are Lucy haters? Blows my mind, i mean how? She's not as strong as Erza but there were many times when she literally saved the whole guild alone, no kidding. And she's caring with everyone. She's also one the very few people in the world who can manipulate more than one spirit at the same time. Lucy is by far my favorite character of FT, after Happy ofc.
It was so sad when she broke the key. Literally heartbreaking. But I do still love this moment because it’s a good reminder again that Lucy is a lot stronger than people might think. She’s probably one of the strongest celestial magic users out there. So I do love these moments where Lucy does these big things and attacks that save everyone. But poor Lucy :( I feel so sad for her. I also think that was a really brave and smart decision from Aquarius as well.
We lost Master Org, Lahar, and now technically Aquarius is a casualty of war. But you know it's serious business when summoning the Celstian Spirit King is necessary just to give them all a fighting chance. It sucks too since Aquarius was her very first spirit and the one she had the closest bond with, even in spite of the antagonism from Aquarius. But yeah, Lucy did it. Tartaros had Fairy Tail drawn and quartered, but she pulled out the save that put them back in the fight and alongside Mirajane, ensured there was no more coming back for the gates that had been defeated like Franmalth and Ezel. I also love how both the dub and sub capture how much The Celestial Spirit King despises Mard Geer and is utterly infuriated at him for how much pain Lucy is in. Seeing this jolly giant pissed off is just something.
One of Lucy’s saddest moments followed by one of her best! Love that she took down Jackal. The Aquarius moment hit hard but watching it again along with you made it hit even harder. Guess I wasn’t done getting teary eyes during that part after all.
I knew these episodes were going to be sad for you Jami. They were heartbreaking when reading them and then watching them the first time. Lucy just couldn't catch a break with anything and its sad to see her lose someone she has been with since childhood again. She got that power up though which was amazing for her character.
The celestial spirit king is way to powerful to not require a sacrifice. He is easily in the top 5 powerwise in the verse we've seen so using him willy nilly would break the power scale. Even Marde gear could just dodge and run for time. He had no way of actually damaging him. Sadly CSK was limited to not using huge aoe attacks as that would have harmed Lucy. This is such a good moment for Lucy and her growth ❤️ Top 5 saddest moments as well no doubt.
CSK even with a master who had basically no more power at that point was strong enough to 1. Take down the cube with one shot 2. Use several magical strikes that appeared to cleave through the landscape for miles 3. Was able to do attacks that caused essentially nuclear blasts and 4. was able to use a spell to cleanse and undo the effects of the Cube and restore all the Fairy Tail wizards.
Not even just this arc, but the rest of this show has plenty of tears left for you. And i mean plenty. But they always seem to have something there to make you feel better though
Lucy fought Mard Geer to a stand still and onshot an opponent that even Natsu struggled with at the same time. Lucy can be crazy powerful when she really has to. It's just sad that she had to sacrifice her bond to her oldest friend Aquarius for it. This was truely one of the most emotional scenes in the entire Manga and Anime.

He also fought Mard Geer limited by Lucys magical power. So it's really her fighting Mard Geer. Because her celestial spirits fighting someone counts as her fighting that person.

Yeah Lucy had to face Torafuzar, Lamy and Jackal and she summoned 3 celestial spirits, than she summoned an even more celestial spirit, The Celestial Spirit King!! Lucy already used to much magic, we can't blame her for not having enough magic for the Celestial Spirit King

these 2 episodes alone is what made Lucy my favorite character in Fairy Tail this is her personal lost just like Luffy losing Ace though not in the same level its still a very sad scene because we've seen Aquarius since the very first episode so seeing this is just insane to always watch. I’ve watched Fairy Tail for years now. Re watched it more times than I can count. And eventhough I know this happens every time, I still cry so hard when she sacrifices Aquarius key.
did not expect that big of a reaction. But the arc wlll keep being heavy. Aquirius is merely not summonable anymore till she finds the key anymore The best dialouge with teh King was cut out thought, that vexed me 'That is no weakness, is our greatest strenght. But to a Demon who cannot love or cherish anyone, I am sure that is incomprehensible Demon King,' He sent a wave of hope to fight back, the counterattack begins now.

God it destroyed me when I read this in manga. Aquarius has been my favorite of the spirits from the first moment she was introduced (episode 1) and it was so hard to see her sacrifice.

It’s always good to see someone appreciate Lucy and how good of a character she is. Only reason the Celestial Spirit King didn’t beat Mard Geer was because Lucy was tired. She’s the MVP for sure.

these 2 episodes alone is what made Lucy my favorite character in Fairy Tail this is her personal lost just like Luffy losing Ace though not in the same level its still a very sad scene because we've seen Aquarius since the very first episode so seeing this is just insane to always watch. I wonder what was Hiro Mashima was feeling when he was writing this scene because its one of my favorite scenes in Fairy Tail.
i love how lucy and natsu are exactly like luffy and nami, the way they have their moments the way natsu smiles and everything.

I’ve watched Fairy Tail for years now. Re watched it more times than I can count. And eventhough I know this happens every time, I still cry so hard when she sacrifices Aquarius key.

The emotional damage on this anime is real there's so many of it.

Don't worry Jami, all of us reacted the same way the first time we saw that episode. It was heartbreaking. Aquarius always said she hated Lucy, but she probably just didn't want to admit that she loved her a lot despite all the sass she gave Lucy
this was Lucy's first biggest step to she showed so much emotion and gave it her all she showed everyone even the guild and hater's!!

God it destroyed me when I read this in manga. Aquarius has been my favorite of the spirits from the first moment she was introduced (episode 1) and it was so hard to see her sacrifice.

Aquarius sacrifice... really sucked. it made a lot of us cry. It was Lucy's last connection to her mother. And Aquarius never hated Lucy. She just acted like she did. She always loved and protected Lucy.
