In tamil we read and write like telungu thats why she is telling telungu. not only telungu we keep name for many languages kanadam for kannada, angilam for english, samaskirutham for sanskrit. But I have seen in quora that in old days telugu literatures written like telungu not telugu.

If you live where there are mainly Tamils such as in Jaffna then you will pick up Tamil easily. Most Tamils living down south can speak Sinhala as they have no choice but to as everyone speaks in Sinhala as it's the main first language. Dear tamil friends don't blame our fellow sinhala friends for not knowing tamil . Actually they refer and learn many foreign languages , literatures, histories than tamils , they have broader knowledge about other literatures . Actually tamil language do not get preferred gesture in economy or in politics therefore learning tamil will not give any economical or political or legal advantage for a non tamil speaker , So rather than saying others to learn tamil , tamils should know to improve the elegance in tamil . But now government schools has given text books for link languages tamil and sinhala after 2015 from grade 6-11 so the kids in schools actually have broader knowledge on both language , also private schools are teaching link languages as compulsory subject up to grade 9 Also , How many of Tamils can speak with out mixing English so the competency and confidence among tamils about tamil even not in a good level all the time . I AM NOT BIASED TO ANYBODY , I JUST EXPLAIN THAT THERE IS NO POINT ON ARGUING OVER LANGUAGES WITH NON TAMIL SPEAKING COMMUNITY .

If you live where there are mainly Tamils such as in Jaffna then you will pick up Tamil easily. Most Tamils living down south can speak Sinhala as they have no choice but to as everyone speaks in Sinhala as it's the main first language. Used to be English till that bloody Bandaranaike ruined the country!

Dear tamil friends don't blame our fellow sinhala friends for not knowing tamil .
Actually they refer and learn many foreign languages , literatures, histories than tamils , they have broader knowledge about other literatures .
Actually tamil language do not get preferred gesture in economy or in politics therefore learning tamil will not give any economical or political or legal advantage for a non tamil speaker ,
So rather than saying others to learn tamil , tamils should know to improve the elegance in tamil .
But now government schools has given text books for link languages tamil and sinhala after 2015 from grade 6-11 so the kids in schools actually have broader knowledge on both language , also private schools are teaching link languages as compulsory subject up to grade 9
Also , How many of Tamils can speak with out mixing English so the competency and confidence among tamils about tamil even not in a good level all the time .
