I love all the detail. Explaining not only what do do but why to do it is huge.

Another adult learner here and I'd like to thank you for your fine "rambling" as you have spread a good bit of light on the bow hold thumb controversy.

Thank you for this. The curved thumb approach was killing me. This helps a ton.

Thanks for sharing your approach in cello playing. This straight thumb explanation is very clear and quite logical. I had thought about using it before and now I definitively going to do it.

Thank you so much for this. I'm an adult learner and have been struggling for months with my bow hold due to hypermobile joints. I'm going to give these bow hold tips a try.

No wonder my hand hurts sometimes when I didn't lift my pinky. I think the method shown in this video will give my hand more balance. It's worth a try and makes more sense than what my middle school orchestra teacher taught me.

I like the way you are open to different approaches, like the bow hold.
I would love a lesson about the first position and some exercises on how to train your ear and hand to be in tune :)
Thank you and congrats for your work : )

Thank you for freeing me from pinky guilt. Two of my daughters are violinist and after years of Suzuki training I am, in my old age, trying to take up cello. I have been battling the fact I keep putting my pinky on top and find trying to put it down on the frog is very uncomfortable. I will work on trying a less locked thumb and just let the pinky be where it wants to. Thanks again.

On fiddle, I use the pinky at the 11:00 o clock for like a rudder...this was a natural happening for me through the years. I t kind of gives better control for me. This is like pinky surfing. Blue Dave.

The bow hold from a cello point of view is far more variable than for the violin or bass, especially the thumb.

When you use bended thumb, don't you want to try it resting between the ring and upper part of the frog. Right in the ebony arch, which is more close to the right end of the bow

Thank you for your helpful videos! I started cello at age 60 (I've played piano, flute, guitar for many years). Seven years later, I'm struggling with stiff joints, arthritis pain, etc. I study off and on with a teacher and practice daily. It seems I can play the notes but it still doesn't sound like music. Is it too late for me??
