Great video on the basics of post moves and footwork! I have one thing to add. At 2:43, you advise your players to rotate their bodies all the way for their jump hooks, to the point that the front of the bodies are facing the basket. That's good advice for those just starting out, because it allows them to shoot the hook similar to a jump shot. But at higher level basketball, they will face better post defenders and shotblockers who will hunt those shots because they are right in front of them. Eventually, they will need to learn to shoot the jump hook with their bodies facing sideways. This allow their bodies to naturally shield shotblockers from disrupting the shot. And perhaps they can even learn the skyhook, which gives the shotblockers even less of a chance of bothering the shot. Also, they will need to learn to shield with their off arm during hook shots without fouling.
@@HowardEliteBasketball I respectfully disagree. Players should have many reliable weapons to consistently score in the post. The more you can keep the defender guessing, the more easily you can get a shot off cleanly. For me, the skyhook can be used as a go-to move or a reliable countermove. It can be shot like a clean jumpshot or off the glass. Regardless of what scoring moves the post player chooses to use and refine, he/she should always remember that the low post is a playmaking position, and not just a pure scoring position. Using the threat of the pass (and actually making passes) out of the post opens up scoring chances, because the post defender must also defend against the pass as well. Especially if the pass goes to an open spot-up shooter or a cutter for an open layup.
@@Lewis.Alcindor I agree with passing out the post but video was about post moves to score. And still I will not teach sky hook you can if you like. I will not. Name me 5 post players still using it???
@@HowardEliteBasketball No one in the NBA, at least not consistently. I've seen Kyle Kuzma bust out the move once in a blue moon. But then again, the NBA is no longer friendly to the old school low-post play. Besides the rules allowing double teams off-ball, I'm convinced that the refs have allowed defenders to shove players out of the post with both hands for the past 15-20 years. They allowed this because it gave post defenders a chance to credibly defend prime Shaq. But now that Shaq is long gone, they still allow such shenanigans.
Coach is 100% right on that inside hook. If you don’t stay flat on that blue line then that hook is 100x harder because the defender can force you to fade away from the rim. You have to stay even with that line and make them back up. If they don’t give you that line, then that is when you use their momentum and force pushing against you to duck under and get that up and under layup. Nice techniques Coach!
I'm a 6'1 pf for my school intramural I already knew the hook as that the midrange and corner 3 are my bread and butter but I just learned the dropstep properly usually since rim strong I can do it from the bad angle on the first block and pull it off but now I know it's at the nick. Also on those step throughs and then dribble you can pop a dream shake coach also think you missed the reverse pivot bank on alota those it's a good move to
Forgot to ask, do have a video focused on pump fakes and ball fakes. Last guy to use it consistently in his game was The Mamba. It's a lost art that always works if done correctly no matter how big or small you are. But you already know that. LOL
My tryouts are coming in November a bit nervous I love basketball but I’m not super smart and I feel like just cause I got 1 c and some b’s the coach’s are gonna cut me

Hi. I am considering trying to be on a basketball team. I'm 13 and I just wanted to know, what do they make you do in middle school practice? Will it be too much for me? Also I'm only 5'1.
The team I’m trying out for always puts the same kids on the team is there a chance of me getting noticed even if I never made the team but I am good enough
