AllPowers 372Wh power pack solar generator fault

  • I have the AllPowers 372Wh power pack/solar generator which I've been having trouble with for months.
    The power pack is currently inoperable and only works when connected to a mains input (not solar which has never worked) nor PD as shown on the video. The tagged-on videos following showing the current 'dead' unit, were filmed earlier and show how it behaved before failing completely.
    Background:
    Initially, about 8 weeks following purchase, it became inoperable and AllPowers helpfully advised pressing the DC button for 60 seconds to reset it. This worked and the powerpack became usable again but the resets have become regular, despite the power pack being only lightly used, ie to run a 40W electric blanket for winter camping, 1-2 nights per month for 45 minutes each time, plus charging a phone, tablet, Kindle and electric toothbrush and just running the latter USB devices for 1 night monthly between March-June inclusive plus occasional 40W laptop use at home during power outages. Following every use, it has always been recharged to 100%, with the input charge recorded via the LED display.
    There were occasional issues with the LED lights which would flash like a strobe and not turn off. A reset seemed to resolve this, until the next time.
    On its last successful use in May, it was used to power a USB fan for 2 hours. It then became erratic, often failing to switch on or running only when connected to the mains.
    In June-July I tried to monitor its performance and noted that when connected to mains charging (solar has never worked), then the battery icon appeared to indicate it is charging but the charging input always shows as zero. The battery level always shows 99%.
    If the DC is switched on and a USB cable connected eg to charge an already fully-charged tablet, then this showed an output of about 1-2W but if the USB cable is disconnected, it still showed an output of 2W suggesting a possible battery drain.
    The running time remaining with a 1-2W output showed approx 1-1.5 hours which is far beyond what it should be for a 372Wh battery (and showed about 6.5 hours in May when it was still working). On its last use in early August, it appeared to be charging a phone but died after 12 minutes.
    I have no means of testing whether charging is actually working or not - the LED shows 99% charge when connected to the mains.
    The input charge is not recorded on the LED panel
    The powerpack has been behaving erratically for several months before finally (apparently) dying.
    These faults were reported to AllPowers and the retailer but because the unit was days out of warranty, there was no support. Having foolishly paid via PayPal and bought from a Chinese seller, there was no UK Consumer Protection either. Lessons learned...

    Solved mine in a different way. Last year, in 2022 in May I bought an ALLPOWERS 700W Portable Power Station. Failed after one camping trip, not even discharged, about 2 months after. Plugged in or not plugged in it was not operating at all apart from the USB-C port. I wrote FAULTY with a marker on it. So I asked for a replacement, which I have received and they said I could keep the faulty one. The second one failed 2 months after in the same manner. I have asked for a refund and have received it in full. Today I bumped into my old batteries and tried the faulty one and put it to charge. starts working. I have checked the other one and was not working at all. But this one had still some life in it so I decided to drain it completely. Guess what, it worked as well. now charging both of them. so I have 2 700W batteries for free. hahahaha. I will keep you updated

    I've just returned to my dead 372wh unit after 5 months When I checked my voltage between ground and 12volt strap on battery pack was 7.25volt . I have a soldered BMS board so could not disconnect the bms like some others have. But I charged the unit from a 3S 12volt battery pack directly connected to 12Volt on the BMS and negative. Then when I got to 10Volt or their abouts! jumped the unit from the 12 volt band of the battery (which when its all apart is the end with the usb connectors) to the 12 volt stand up (which is the bolt which is nearest to the cigarette socket on my) on the board with the display. Just directly connected it. And it came back to life. As many had said nothing to loose. Worked for me.

      Can you put the battery model you used to charge? Did you connect it to the 12W socket like the car cigarette lighter?

    I fixed it!!! Open the box. Four screws on the bottom. On the layer above the battery, there is a xt60 connector. Unplug that wait a few seconds and replug it. This will cause a hard boot and it will work.

      Can you say which year you bought yours? as the other videos showing the insides on the internet of this show the battery being stacked on top of the boards with headers. Mine has the BMS soldered to the battery. NO xt60 connector. I will be buying a different brand next time. mine is also about 2 years old and out of warranty.

      @@davidnelson1322 I bought mine in August 2020 and it failed completely in July 2022 when I was advised the 372Wh model only had a 18 month warranty but all other models had 2 years (convenient). I will dig out my pics of its interior to check for the XT60 connector.

    Mine failed as others and the main video describe - tried all the reset fixes suggested but no luck. The manufacturer should be ashamed of themselves putting such poor products to market.

    Ours won't stay switched on when trying to use the AC mode - if you hold down the AC button it switches on momentarily but then switches off. I've tried changing the fuses but that doesn't work.
    Any ideas?

    Just got an allpowers s1500 delivered today. Put it on charge and it got to 42% then stopped. Keeps making a clicking sound repeatedly but wont take any charge. Tried running some things to discharge it a bit then retry but still not working. Anyone got any ideas of an easy quick fix? Tried holding dc button to rest but no good.

    Just had the same with mine. Your battery is in a 3S configuration, one portion of the battery was at 2.4V and other two was at 4.2V. You need the charge the lower bank up to 4.2V. It might be because left it to long with out charging.

      This sounds interesting. Please could you advise how to do this. There is nothing to lose and anything is worth a try in order to bring it back to life. It was left unused for 6-8 weeks but charged immediately prior to this, showed 100% charge in the display and then was erratic followed by total failure. Thank you.

      @@klwreviews2415 there is a video on TH-cam how to dismantle the unit. Start by removing the fuses first and take pictures as you dismantle. Use a meter and probe the circuit board that soldered to the batteries. 4 points on the circuit board. One negative then a 4.2v then a 8.4v then a 12.6v. You should see which one is down on power

      Umm. Your device is clearly faulty. Why are you looking for advice online? Unless it's out of warranty, have you not simply considered just sending it back from where it was purchased or emailing Allpowers for an RMA return!

    • @klwreviews2415
      @klwreviews2415 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@StalionKick Yes it is very clearly faulty and I was hoping someone here who has one with the same fault might have found a fix for it.
      It has had problems from the outset, needing regular resets, solar charging never worked.... I thought it had a 2 year warranty but, alas, only 18 months apparently and this fault occurred a few days out of warranty so no support from AllPowers.
      Have recharged batteries manually from but no luck there so suspect faulty circuit board or dead cell in one of the batteries.

    I think i resolve the problem with my S400. First when i was buy , used one it was at 99% and at discharge was drain verry fast 20 - 25min. After that at 0 % was drain about 20 min more until he died completly. In this time didn`t want to charghe not 99 % or lower. After died i put on charge , show battery charging but no power come into battery. First i was dissansambly and try to equal voltage from 3s 21600 bank until 11.3v but no succes , not let me to charge and indicator was 0% but was working and operating. Then i take a car 12v plug socket and a charger similar with 20v and 3.3ah and i inserterd on 12v car hole from the bank. With a measure plug i was see starting to take electricity from dyi charger and the display suddenly was to 100%. i take it out and i plugged the original charger in the charging socket and started to charge normaly with powerbank displayng realtime charging. Now after i resolve this i`m tryng to drain and charge to recalibrate the cells. That was my resolve on my case , but in other cases who try same can make on their own risk , sometimes can make damages what i tryed with car socket dyi charging and no take responsability for it !

    hi, the 99% is an indicator of a battery fault, this usually happens with these high power batteries because they are discharged further than the battery can cope with or they were discharged and left uncharged as happened with my 10,000 AMP lol emergency car start battery th-cam.com/video/vwUePdTR1bQ/w-d-xo.html Its ridiculous that for the cost of an extra few pounds that the machines don't include a small reserve battery to keep them above the danger level or to stop it being discharged to far. If you open it up you can check the battery banks inside a one is likely to be lower than the others and if you have a charge you can try charging that bank at 4.2v at low amperage to big it back up.

    • @klwsproductreviews6148
      @klwsproductreviews6148  ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately this doesn't seem to be the problem with this unit. We stripped it down (no obvious loose connections/faults) and the battery banks were around 11V. We did a quick top-up via 12V charger but the fault has persisted. On its last use, the unit was discharged to about 75-80%'ish then recharged to 100% on returning home a day or two later. It was then left unused for maybe 6 weeks during the UK 2022 summer heatwave (stored indoors but switched on periodically to check it - batt still 100%) then on its next use it became erratic as shown later in the video until failing completely, a shown at the start of the video. It remains dead unless connected to the mains.
