Swedr here. In my experience it comes down to parents cooking just enough so no left overs, and expecting your parents to have made food for you.
So if you don't ask before they start cooking. Yeah, they didn't cook enough to share. Also, factor in people eat in very diffrent times, so sometimes I have waited while my friend eat, then later we go home to me and then he had to wait.

the only difference is that france has fought in central africa, but the USA has fought in most of asia.
