Ahhhh, la famosa Marcha. In New Mexico there cannot be a good wedding celebration without the marcha. It is said in the folklore of the elders, that dancing La Marcha with the people in attendence brings good luck, happiness and everlasting togetherness for los novios.
My name is NOT Billybob, lol. I was born and humbly raised on Commerce Street Las Vegas, NM. I love this music, the people, the culture, the art, the architecture and customs, the chile and all NM food. I no longer live in NM and I miss it EVERY SINGLE DAY. Traveled the whole country, Canada, Mexico, Carrabean isles, Hawaii and many European countries BUT none pull my heart strings like mi querido Nuevo Mejico: tierra bendita y igualmente su gente!
I miss going to a wedding dance on Saturday night with my friends and always being welcomed whether we knew the newlyweds or not. Everyone in town was always welcome to a wedding dance.
Reminds me of all my tias, tios, cousins, nana and tata and the comadres and compadres all joining in... my mom and dad were in many family weddings...
I'm a MASTER DJ WITH MY POPS IN ALBUQUERQUE we do this at all weddings and it's fun I always join in even if I have my radio and keys on me and it's fun everytime or I take a dinner break then
I had a small wedding with just 12 people. But we still danced the Marcha at our small reception afterwards! It's tradition!
I miss home. I always enjoyed dancing the Marcha at weddings. Love this tradition.
Oh, how I miss these beautiful weddings and traditions!
