To those of you who like an occasional change of pace from the usual graham cracker crust, use an equivalent size amount of ground animal crackers instead.
Thank you, Lisa, for sharing a delightful looking Cheesecake Recipe with Kevin. Kevin I am so excited to try this delicious looking recipe. Love too it is budget friendly and simple. Wishing you and your friends & family a very blessed New Year ahead. Love from Ky.
As I’ve been learning of my heritage of polish and Hungarian, I have learned so much of the two countries friendship and loyalty to one another. It’s really interesting. Thank you for sharing another great recipe❤😊
Happy New Year to Calvalcade and all who enjoy a slice of life past and present . Finding this podcast has been my delight this past year . Ralph has the New Year spirit for 2023 " nothing to it but to do it " !
Hi Laura! I think that farmers cheese was probably more available years ago. I almost never see it in the stores anymore (at least in my part of Michigan). I'm wondering if the recipes got adapted to use dry cottage cheese at some point. Thanks!
@@cavalcadeoffood I live on Long Island NY and I never seen farmers cheese in the store. When I looked at grandma’s recipe I asked my mom what it was 😂 she said use cottage cheese instead. I going to try your recipe it looks delicious 🤤 very similar recipe to grandma’s. Blessings to you and your family and a happy new year.
Looks delightful! Cottage cheese and sour cream are staples of many eastern European kitchens. I grew up in NJ in the 60s and it sounds much like Michigan, every town had a different culture group from all over Europe and the Mediterranean making for a rich food experience for us all.
Hi Briney! It was wonderful to grow up with so many different cultures in a city and getting to experience the different food, music, traditions, etc. Thanks!
That recipe is very similar to a cheesecake I used to make back in the late 70s and early 80s, from the book "Recipes for a Small Planet" by Ellen Buchman Ewald. Cottage cheese, lemon juice and all! Except that it called for honey instead of sugar. That recipe used the blender for breaking up the curds. The recipe was flexible on what kind of crust to make--graham cracker was one of the options. And I made it in a springform pan. There was a yogurt topping, but I didn't do that topping, I generally made a blueberry sauce for it instead, sort of like the filling that you'd make for a pie.
Hi AugustMeteors! I have heard of that cookbook, but I don't believe I have a copy. Interesting idea about making the filling in a blender - I can see how that could work well. Thanks so much for letting me know!
Another fantastic video, what else can I say? Every time you post a video it takes me right back to the Warrendale neighborhood, and all the post-WW2 Polish families I grew up with. And that sir is a very good feeling, thank you. God bless you, Ralph, Mar and Lisa.
My father’s family settled in that area until high school. His parents retired to Phoenix and then Scottsdale when it was just beginning and prior to it becoming very expensive. Love the recipes! Nostalgic…taking me back to my childhood which has been over 60 years ago. I’ve just found your channel. It’s been so delightful watching the two I’ve seen! (those wonderful Star of David plates and dishes)… Thank you for sharing your joy. You and MaryAnn have definitely lightened my heart tonight and left me with a smile!! I still love cabbage rolls which was a staple growing up. No one in Texas had eaten it or the ox tail stew which was unbelievably fantastic!! Can’t wait to try this recipe ❤
You are right. I'm from Hungary. We use for most cheese products farmer's cheese, because you can buy it in every store here. It's not the same as cottage cheese.
I make a cheesecake similar from the Good Food cookbook (1985) It's a healthy cooking book when that type of cooking was not a fad Thank you for sharing your recipe, I didn't know it was based on Hungarian cooking
It is so cool that you had your food friend Lisa cooking with you. Of course we love Ralph and Mary Ann, but involving more food friends is a great idea!
Hi Andrew! It was fun to have Lisa with me in the kitchen and I plan on having other friends join me in the future. It's something that we often do with our friends - cook and bake - but never record it. Thanks!
Nothing better than a Foley measuring cup for pressing things down in a pan. This recipe looks great and it would be interesting to try the non-fat cottage cheese and lowfat sour cream just to see. I hope Santa was good to you this year. He brought me a new beater for my KitchenAid mixer. I wore the white coating off the tip of the old one! Happy New Year to all!
Hi Jonathan! It would be worth trying the low-fat/non-fat version. Santa was good to me this year, although I was on the naughty list, as usual! Sounds like your back in business with your KA mixer!! Happy New Year!
Looks very delicious, I am definitely going to make this. Good to see you all, thank you for another beautiful recipe. Happy Holidays. Love & peace to all.
That looks great, Kevin and Lisa! I'm wondering if the whisk attachment would work better to break down the cottage cheese? PS- Happy, Healthy New Year to you all!
Looks fantastic. I bake this with cream cheese. I alsi do your soir cream topping.i do mune in a traditional cheese cake pan I flash freeze mine and it cuts beautifully.
This looks so delicious. Every now and then, I get a container of cottage cheese and put it on say, peaches, you know, just because it was something you did growing up. It's interesting how they went with the lighter cottage cheese instead of cream cheese for this recipe and it does seem to work out well here. Something to try that's for certain.
Hi John - I had never made a cheese cake with cottage cheese before - always used cream cheese, so I thought this worked well. It is a bit lighter, I'd say. Happy New Year!
Oh yes! We had that many many times….this has been a real treat to find this channel and read the great people’s experiences and memories… Just lightened my step a bit and I thank you!

I froze my cottage cheese even for lasagna when thowed out it's easier to separate the liquid and the curds fall apart.
Great tip! Thanks for sharing!
I might have the instruction manual for that range if you would like it
Hi Hans - fortunately I also have the instruction manual for this range. I think this was a popular year for GE ranges.

Or Tom Sellak.
